Dunkield
A lot has been made of the value of metal in the press, and also on sites like this when cartridge prices are rocketing. We had a new hot water cylinder fitted recently, so I hung on to the old one rather than let the plumber take it. I had no idea what it was worth, as it was only a small one I guessed a tenner maybe. £26 - cha ching! I don't condone the nicking of metal, and if the stories are to believed ripping off lightning conductors and the like, but now I can at least see the motive. Cranfield
There have also been quite a few village (cast iron) signs stolen in Kent. The prices are rising, about time I got me horse and cart out again.

Tony9r
The latest 'round our way is telephone lines vanishing! Because my business involves all steel + aluminium, it's got to the stage that every other day I get visits from our travelling friends after scrap... so now I cannot store any of it outside the unit
dunganick
a friends pub had a large anchor stolen from outside it, so they have replaced it with, an even bigger one, takes about 3 people to lift

malkiserow
many of the ali road signs are being replaced with plastic ones to reduce theft. My elderly aunt had here cylinder replaced recently ... when the plumber was taking it away, and hearing the news about values of scrap, she told him to leave it !!!!! she got somewhere between £20 adn £25. You should seen the plumbers face !!!
Dunkield
To be honest I didn't think they would just weigh it, I thought they would a tariff. If I knew that was all they were going to do, I would have left all this inside it where it came from! Hard water area or what Mind you I wouldn't have been able to carry it down the stairs
al4x
the ****** would have put it back in afterwards to increase the weight
myuserid
The value of scrap metal is unbelievable, I cleared out a few barns the other month, got a local scrap man round £200! An old roller which attaches onto the back of the Massey ferg, £70, an old Citroen £60. Couldn’t believe it, then the other day someone came round asking for scrap metal, cheeky monkey. Dunkield
It's a nightmare really, I am glad scrap cars have some value now as it means they don't get dumped/set light to up country lanes, but the flip side is metal being nicked left right and centre.. lurcherboy
I get a fiver for a catalyser and 10 bob for a battery. Aluminium is kept for a weirdo that makes jewellery. All other metals are kept for a couple of gypsies that call in regular as clockwork and they always know the locations of hairey rabbits during the season.
