Bagsy
the best thing i ( bought ) was a round of drinks,to cut a long story short i used to live in Nanyuki in kenya.Nanuki is one of the first stops for any one driving across the sahara usually from egypt.i was sat in the bar in the mount kenya safari club when a car pulled up and a family of four fell out of it.they ordered a round of drinks and some food...unfortunately the bar didnt accept credit cards and they didnt want to use what bit of cash they had for petrol for the rest of the journey down to mombassa. no problem i said...stick it on my dads account, which i did.......he thanked me for the help and as he left he wrote his phone number down...2 weeks later i rang him... and a months free holiday in the Malindi beach hotel in mombassa was the result...apparently he was managing director of a chain of hotels..happy days...he took me out on his boat deep sea fishing, unfortunately his 10 yr old son couldnt stop puking so we had to return to port.... Excellent story - there are good people out there!
Cranfield
A pair of 1 1/4 lb TC, 12ft Harrisons I bought 18 years ago for £125 , they have had years of heavy use and are my favourite rods (I own 32 fishing rods). I caught my personal best carp (33-6 ), barbel(12-9) and bream (14.11), with these rods. After years of buying £20 cheapo waxproof coats, I invested £200 in a Musto coat about 15 years ago. Despite being badly treated and worn boat fishing, it is still doing well (although the collar is fraying a bit) and its certainly repaid the investment. My Toyota Surf , it cost me about £6500 six years ago and is the first true fishing/shooting vehicle I have owned. It has all the comforts of AC, automatic, 4wd, H/L ratio, etc., and I am relaxed about taking it anywhere, anytime. Previously I have abused top quality vehicles incl Mercs, Volvos and the last one was a top of the range Subaru Legacy. All of which needed bodywork repairs , full valeting etc., before I sold them, I also use to feel sick everytime I heard a branch scraping down the side, or the exhaust getting another clout on a rock. Now, I don't care at all.

paul65
My Omega Speedmaster watch. Had it for about 14 years now, wear it all the time. I'd always wanted one and saw one on a big discount with interest free credit that I knew I'd never get again. I've just won an Ebay auction for a £1200 Gretsch guitar. My wife will cack her drawers when she finds out. I don't care, it is THE ONE.
garyb
Another vote for a guitar here.. Gibson Les Paul standard, had it 10 years now, and it sounds better than ever. Wouldn't sell it for the world.
ultimate_hunter
i think it has to be my meindl boots Burma MFS PRO. bought them 6 months ago, so they are still new, and not exaggerating i have worn them everyday from 6-30 until 6-00 at night. and as i work in construction thats a lot of abuse, along with fishing and shooting, and still 100 percent waterproof and warm. check them out. not cheap, but you get what you pay for with them and i recommend then to everyone! will post pics(there well worn in!) Lord Geordie
The best thing I bought was the Engagement ring which led to my Son's Birth. Granted the marriage ended but I have my Boy and seeing as he was a direct result of the ring I have to say it was the best investment I have EVER made
Vegeta
Is that the thermal camo stuff I saw on Cabelas? I laughed my **** off when I saw it... But... Err... Glad ya like it G I swear John its not as gay as it sounds. I have the plain black ones, really if you do any cold weather shooting (and lets face it we all do) they are great. I usually had to put on my big hunting jacket and a fleece if I was going shooting on Lough Derg or sitting at a pond, which sometimes leads to mounting the shotgun uncomfortably or badly due to the bulk of the clothing. I'd nearly get away with just a jumper over this stuff. Highly recommend it to anyone who hates wearing bulky clothing while out shooting
Floating Chamber
With the high cost of factory shells, and 3" .410 reloads at a quid a box, this precious little tool from the 70's is out of its box again! Definitely one of the best items I ever bought! It's saving my precious shot!

Guest The Outlaw
I have probably mentioned it before but I recently bought the last remaining MK1 Granada Coupe Convertable, a rolling shell but the roof is good as is the shell. £300 well spent imo, and another one taking up space in the front garden. Zapp
But in the spirit of not derailing yet another post, I will plump for my 1994 Daihatsu Rugger (an imported fourtrak), which is my shooting wagon. Never forget when I phoned up about it and the salesman warned me "You should know that the previous owner liked to shoot, so there is a bloody great lamp sticking out the sunroof" Easiest sale he ever made!
