it is recomended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. windows will now download and install the most up to date antispyware for you.

click here to protect your computer from spyware.

also getting another popup that says other saying similar information.

tried a sytem restore but this didnt help.

Sounds very much like the 'Vundo' type virus, it causes pop ups to appear constantly with security threats and anti virus programmes to download.

Very difficult to get rid of, I went here, http://malwareremoval.com/forum/index.php for help they will guide you through the infection and how to get rid of it, register, log on then post a 'help' type thread in the appropriate section, it could take a few days to get a response but worth the wait.

In the mean time DO NOT open or download any of the security programmes.

Hope you get fixed soon.

I now use avast. I downloaded AVG and it slowed down my computerwell bad.

Ditto,

It made the whole thing take ages to get going to the point I could use it and then took ages once it did. Binned it and straight away Computer runs normal again. Never had this problem with Norton, it may not be free but it works, doesn't conflict and is trustworthy.

AVG was on the work computer as well and took ages exactly the same.

That's probably because you chaps had the daily scan switched on. I just set it to moniter the system and in 6 years have only had one virus and that was removed easily.
