Baffled

Applying logic to the problem I would separate the two units from each other, remove all connections between the two.

If one ends up switched on and the other not, you know which is to blame. From there you can try and work out why. I would take the remote controls away from the sets, put them in another room or remove the batteries - to rule out some fault with those.

If they both end up on, when not connected together and the remote controls removed, you either have poltergeists who like films or someone is winding you up ;)

I'd start by replacing the batteries on your remote control, some when they get low emit signals, if not eliminate signals from any other remote etc cover up the infra-red receptor on the front of your TV and leave it overnight, using tin foil will do the job ;)

If this does stop it, then look for unexpected signal sources. Have you added a remote control extender or anything else which could cause spurious signals?

I suspect the fault lies with the DVD.

If it has a Freeview tuner, they sometimes actvate in the night to update the EPG (electronic program guide).

If there is a scart connection to the TV, the DVD activation will take the TV out of standby. Not sure if this is still true with HDMI. Either look in the setup menus of the TV and DVD to look for this function to disable it or turn the TV off at the main switch or perhaps unplug it.

pin, I know where you are coming from.

We have an HD Sky box and there are all sorts of noisy little gremlins living in it.

On the next full moon my wife wants me to take it into the garden, tie it to a stake and burn it. ;)

Sky boxes with HDMI are well known for causing all kinds of problems, do a google for sky+hdmi+problem

Sky admit there is an issue, it takes out the whole HDMI bus of any connected kit and causes problems with things like viera link, which is why I asked if there was a sky box in the loop

Been wondering why my new freeview hdd was coming on at about 3am every morning for aprox 2mins. Bloody annoying as it is in the bedroom and often wakes us up.

Now I know why. :good:
