tikkamark
Howdy folks just thought id share last nights bit of lamping with my mate tomas on his patch-about 2 miles from me. We set out in tomas's jeep and pulled up at a spot we have not tried in over 2 years so we didn't know what to expect really as we were crossing the first field the wind was perfect blowing straight into our faces we seen a fox trotting along nearly straight away walking along to our left as it was on a crest of a hill the shot was to dodgy so we tried to get in front of it-as we made our way around we seen a second fox mooching around on the side of a steep ditch about 80yrds away so i set up on the bipods and waited for the fox to settle couldnt help but admire the condition of the fox in the scope beautiful winter coat gleaming but as he was less than 200yrds from a free range goose farm he had to go anyway he eventually stopped long enough to squeeze a 55gr v-max at his shoulder and dropped like a stone...less than 10mins out and bagged foxy number 1 We retrieve the tail do a lot of admiring and head further towards a narrow long wood that's known as the 'mount' round here it has a few active fox earths in it so we were expecting to bump into charlie at some point sure enough as we came off a track running through the land and over a rise talking away there's a very bright pair of eyes looking straight at us only about 70yrds this time I got down and seen straight away the fox was carrying something large in its mouth as i slipped off the safety it dropped whatever it was carrying and started to sniff around i got really steady and squeezed off the shot dropping the fox instantly turned out it was a pair of sheep lungs with wind pipe still attached, even after all the noise of the shot and us discussing where the dead sheep was the vixons mate was the far side of the hedge trying to cross into our field i reloaded and gave a distress squeal with the palm of my hand and the fox hopped up on the bank and started to inch down the steep bank i aimed at its chest and let off the trigger i heard a loud thud and seen the fox slide down the bank into the drain i didn't know if it was stone dead so rushed over to make sure-it was floating in the water so obviously dead so!We pulled him out of the water and had a look it was a nice big dog fox we only got a picture of the vixen as the battery in my camera was on the way out Very happy with that we set off back in the general direction of the jeep through some wheat stubble fields to have a look for a fox that we spotted from the road a good few times but it always ran off as soon as the light hit it Sure enough the fox was in the field but very surprisingly it didn't mind the light at all and lay down in the stubble it was pretty close approx 70yards out but i had to extend the bipods out to full length quietly very difficult when you have a fox so close but i managed it and nailed the fox that was the fourth and final fox for the night was very good to thin them out in that spot to both help the goose farmer and to save a few wild pheasants All the tails from the night And here is a 100% genuine group i fired using the v-max's before i set out after the foxes the distance was 105yards 1.4" high for a 200yard zero-it is a 3 shot group believe it or not the third went through the same hole as the other bullets-that or it disappeared its the best i ever fired in my life My tikka tactical just seems to shoot tighter and tighter the more bullets i put through it,needless to say im delighted with it. alexm
Nice! And nice group! What length barrel have you got on your T3? 24" Looks like a nice setup! Reason I was asking was I was wondering if the T8 would fit on the 20" barrel and still clear the stock... looks like it would be quite tight! Hunter
Im telling you, .222 is and will be making a comeback gradually. I use the same Hornady stuff, and its good. Other then that, the Winchester moly stuff (40grn) is brilliant. Very nice shooting and write up.
