Supersonic
Hi I know i haven't been a prolific poster on here but deserve an OBE for my lurking efforts but i digress - the reason i am Eeekworthy is that I have just been diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. It was almost a relief as i have been really quite out of sorts since xmas, the OH kept nagging me to go to the quacks but the worst I felt the worst i thought the news was goin to be. BTW i am early forties and (until recently) fit as a fiddle. Just thought I'd share this
Piebob
I'm assuming you got this from a tick bite? Can you share with us your symptoms and what the doc said? Did he diagnose it quickly? And ho wlong for recovery - I recall reading one story in a mag and recovery was years!! (sorry). Hope it's not the same for you.
Supersonic
I live in a rural community so the doc was pretty hot onto it - unlike me. At xmas i got a small gnat-like bite on the underside of my ankle whilst out shooting and thought nothing more of it. Within a fortnight it was the size of a crusty 5p piece. since then have just felt like s h it in general - achey joints particularly in hands and feet, fall asleep anywhere. on-off colds and sore throats constantly. rash on ankle now about 2" square and nothing will shift it, so went to the docs. As i said glad I went, as i was getting more worried about my general health, and also if left can cause long term and major problems
Hunter
The last case of Lymes I have seen was a hospital job. What course of treatment will you be on? Hope everything goes well for you

al4x
Lymes can be really horrible so good luck. I might be wrong but its pretty unusual to get it in the winter as deer ticks don't survive that long off the animal

B) Yes is here. Most commonly picked up from ticks from animals such as Deer that carry them. Our PW member (rest in peace ) from Holland contracted Lymes and was hospitalised from what I remember. He recovered from it, but was in bad shape for a while. Something thats definatley best of being treated early

Only a short time after he recovered from his fight of Lymes for 6 weeks, he sadly had an accident which he did not recover from But its a good thing you have been checked up and will be on the mend! Pirate
Hi Supersonic: Just thought I put my two penneth in. Two years ago, my brother had a similar thing happen whilst abroad. Got bitten by something, which developed into Lyme disease, which then came out in a form of neuro borrelia, (mild meningitis) Quite rare apparently! He too was in his forties and got quite a few nasty headaches during his illness. Today, he is as right as ninepence, but it did take a little while for him to get his full strenght back. We were told by specialists that his prior fittness was a great aid to his recovery. So let's hope you make a speedy recovery as well fella. dusk2dawn
I read somewhere very recently an article in a newspaper/magazine on the concerns over the free movement of dogs with passports between the UK and the continent, mainly the import of super ticks that carried this disease, it also mentioned Foxes and rabies from France. Did anyone else happen to read this article and can enlarge on it? Hope you make a full recovery very soon. D2D
game_boy
For those who stalk, how do you prevent getting bitten and also when you get the carcass home not contaminating your home and garage with ticks ??

bob300w
For those who stalk, how do you prevent getting bitten and also when you get the carcass home not contaminating your home and garage with ticks ?? Personally. I scrape them off (those that I can see) the deer with a knife before moving it. They are usually on the underside. You can of course get bitten and not get Lymes, not all ticks carry it. Interesting article here; http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/lymedisease.htm
jimdfish
John Wilsons nephew, Marstin Bowler contracted it and wrote about it in the angling times. Really quite debilitating. Get well soon. JDF
