Billett
Lets just hope he brings back National Service, to give these young kids a wake up call to reality
al4x
it'll have been blown out of all proportions. Good old Gordon is just jumping on the bandwagon, if people are being verbally abused in public then it may be wrong and we'll all find it pretty bad but if its happening then it won't happen if they're not in uniform. Its a sad state of affairs but we don't know if its kids illegals or what. All I can say is Peterborough is a bit of a dump so its probably just young hoodies in need of a bit of a kicking
roadkill
i amagine it to be white chavs too , if so then they need a bit of a wake up call ... national service sounds good to me bad lads army but with the beatings

kdubya
The decision not to wear uniform was taken by the station commander at RAF Wittering near Peterborough. take that in? then read where the cops in peterborough state they know of no complaints bla bla bla? then think about thanking that mumbling jock for **** all? this is a classic case of a seemingly senior officer supposedly doing the right thing! and being sensitive to the pc society we are in, and who is one of the biggest culprits responsible for this train of thought ? yeah thats right the mumbling jock. blame the govt not the people of peterborough, they in truth probably support the lads wholeheartedly. cheers KW
al4x
what I'd like to know is did he say don't or did he suggest not to if they wanted to avoid possible problems. J@mes on here works in peterborough and may shed some light but its yet again something no doubt being blown out of all proportions due to media pressure. And yes I don't think the fat Jocks actions are anything to be praised, he condemned it he didn't suggest doing anything about it. Hell i'd have suggested a rather large influx of uniformed squaddies and fed them plenty of alcohol first and suddenly the problem would be dealt with. In fact perhaps its a job for Harry

He said armed forces members should be "encouraged to wear their uniform in public and have the respect and gratitude of the British people". im thanking him for having comon sense , Mr blaire would of stopped the armed forces wearing them he had no back bone
kdubya
Gordon Brown has condemned reports that RAF personnel at a Cambridgeshire base were advised not to wear uniform in public for fear of verbal abuse. true but you miss my point? it is because of the mumbling jock and his PC bloody world that stupid kneejerk decisions are made in the first case! oh and of course this will be the same mumbling jock responsible for both the lack of, and use of poor equipment out in iraq and afganistan whilst he was chancellor, cheers KW here's asnippet showing "his support for the lads" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jh...2/24/do2402.xml
Big_Sam
Don't just stop at uniforms, give them all their kit, L85 the lot! That would stop them getting abused and certainly give them respect. Might have a surprising result putting armer patrols round some of these towns.

poontang
Listening to an interview with the local MP for Peterborough today it seems it's members of the local muslim 'community' who are the culprits. No suprise there then, the only surprise really is that a serving MP will actually come out on radio and tell it how it is. I'd like to see them try the same thing here when the para's are walking around town in uniform!!

Now that's something that I would pay to see! Maybe some of our lads should pop up to Peterborough for the week-end to give the fly boys a bit of moral support? I would think that two nights would solve the problem?

Traztaz
poontang was an instructor for 10 years we were never aloud to wear uniform from 1978 due to the Micks! been there done that and got the medals. so if the new boys can thats good. in coly we all did as it was a Garrison town but no where else Leasone you seem to be a little confused here , having served 20 years I know the ins and outs , you are quite right in saying it was discouraged/banned during the IRA years however circa 1995 or so it has been relaxed , 1999 it was completely relaxed and as of about 3 weeks ago encouraged by the gobbermint. The fact that in mainland UK we are being asked not to wear uniform because of ANYONE ( especially some ******* ****) is beyond me. We are fighting for YOU to keep the nast self exploding **** out of UK, if there happens to be a muslim person on here, or in the UK who dose not like the fact that British armed forces are killing the terrorist Taliban and other organisations at evey oppertunity then you are in the wrong place. This is Great Britain , our country, our rules, our standards and we play by our rules!!! As for the crab ( I am in the army) who decided to bow to these ***** i urinate apon you , there is no way on hell's earth having done two tours in Iraq and a stint in Afghan that I would obay an order to placate some muslim *** at home. The sentiments of others posted on here are really good to hear, its nice to hear that joe public ( sorry thats what we call you (when we are being nice) is waking up) For thoes that care ask yourselfs why is it that dead soldiers dont even make headlines anymore and why is it that you never hear about the wounded ones?By wounded i am talking about blind guys and guys with limbs missing....................think about it and let your blood boil, and then start asking these questions and make the country realise what is happening to our armed forces and why things like the above must NEVER BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN!! RANT OVER , SIGNING OUT.
