Fleabag
Can someone help me visualise what 230 acres looks like. I have just ben offered the sporting rights on a patch this size and don't have the chance to go and view it before i have to yay or nay it. The Question: I'm trying to visualize an acre. Is it about the size of a football field? The Answer: Yes. Often an acre of land is compared to a football field. In reality, an acre is equal to about 76% of a football field, when you consider both end zones. A football field (including the two end zones) is 360 feet long and 160 feet wide for a total of 57,600 square feet. When you take away the two 30-foot-long end zones at each end, the field is 48,000 square feet, making an acre about 91% of the field. An acre, which is a common measurement of land area, is equal to 43,560 square feet. If you are interested more information check out our table of Standard Measurements in Sports. henry d
We used to shoot 4-5 pheasant/partridge/duck drives off 250 acres, however it depends on if it`s all fields or a mix of woods and what do you expect to shoot.

scolopax
I could be wrong but I think one km square is approx 250 acres. 230 acres is a tidy amount of land, but as has been said it all depends on the 'quality' of the ground. 100 ares of mixed woodland and arable could be more productive than 1000 acres of arable monoculture. al4x
as Henry says a lot depends on the land and what you want it for, if a game shoot its on the small side for proper days. We shoot over 500 acres and thats really a half day shoot due to the number of drives. What you have to remember is open arable fields don't hold much wildlife so theres a big difference between 250 acres that consists of 3 fields and one thats broken into 10 fields with a few spinneys nice hedgerows and some cover
Baldrick
I could be wrong but I think one km square is approx 250 acres. Scolopax, 1km square is exactly 247.1 acres. A hectare is 100m x 100m in area, and there are 2.471 acres to the hectare. As said, the quality of the rough shooting will very much depend on whether the 230 acres is divided into many parcels, what the land is cropped (or left as fallow), and the arrangement of woodland/hedges/ditches. If it's 230 acres divided into 20 fields of clover, peas and beans, with plenty of little copses, I will be very envious. InGen
230 aces is 930 776.977 m2 so think back to doing you 1000m at school then times it a few 1000 times and then you have an idea lol. Edited May 14, 2008 by InGen
Suffolk shooter
An acre is rough equivalent of 63m x 63m2 = 3969m2 * 230 = 912870m2 Good bit of ground to cover, say yes and then when you go and look at it, if after a while you think its not for you say so. Dependant on Cover, fields etc could be fantastic or barren. SS
