Beaters that I know of dont get paid. But they get fed, and plenty of booze at the end. :good:

Someone asked a very similar shooting jobs realted qeustion a while ago, and to be honest the answer is the only place you will get paid to shoot is in the armed forces or police firearms unit.

As a beater you may well be offered a few days rough shooting, but dont always count on it. A lot of beater seem to do the job as a hobby. Golf course sounds like a good plan for shooting land, if you lamp they are great for bunnies in the summer.

It is possible to get paid for beating, when i get a free day i beat on a local estate, £20 .... lunch and a few beers etc, its something you do for the love not for the money!

Cracking day out, and you get to laugh at the guns without fear of missing a bird :(

Just a thought, have a look for a local game farm, we are always taking people on when it comes to catching and bitting :good:

The beaters round here get 27 quid a day free feed and a drink at the

end of the shoot,if you beat everyday theres also an invite for the keepers

days, bloody hard graft mind, but well worth it.I also have a couple of mates

who joined nobs (national association of beaters) didnt get anything the

first season but plenty the next. :good:

Beating doesen't start until late Autumn and if you want to find a shoot that pays try NOBS.

There was a really good job advertised recently in the shooting times.

Working for DEFRA as a Ruddy Duck control officer. I know a lad who did the job, drove around the country as part of a small team and shot Ruddy ducks for the goverment. They even had 200 bird days, mostly shotgun work and very similar to driven partridge or grouse, they come at you fast and low, except for the fact you are in a boat

cutting grass at a golf course sounds like a good 'in' and would give you something to do after work. Throw the gun in with you and go after the last group rounds the back nine.

back in the states a few buddies worked summers caddying. My best mate did that for a few years at the same course. He was a good golfer himself despite being 15-18 years old at the time and is a very personable guy. He would make minimum wage from the club, but tips and gratuities would put him around $50 a round of 18 and he'd do 2-3 rounds in a day. Best part is that it was all cash, in your hand at the end of the day, that isn't taxed. Don't know if courses do that here or not, but it was a great way for him to learn the minor nuances of that course and he doesn't get beaten there.

thanks

Not sure that this is strictly correct in the technical sense according to the IRS or HMRC :good::good::sly: .
