Taff Mason
i like google earth. i always use it to check out boundries, routes in/out and potential shooting permision Edited June 15, 2008 by Taff Mason
Cranfield
Its excellent for many reasons, including finding potential fishing waters, making shoot boundary plans and having a free tour round the streets of the World.

straightshooter1
same as the others once you get a permission I get the farmer to mark on his fields or look at my house or friends houses it's a great bit of kit as for age of pics from what I understand they get updated every year or so on a rota basis there is a lot of work for the satalite to do though! steve_b_wales
My pictures get blurry if I try and zoom in too close. Is there a way round this?

vole
Pics about 4 years old as my car was on the drive that we had then. As Cranfield says its handy for checking out the terrain for juicy fishing/shooting spots(and Mrs Sweepys back garden). Ireland is a bit blurred. Might be because of all the drink consumed there. migster
Google Earth! love it, i dont think that it has been updated for at least 2- 3 years. We built a duck pond 2 years ago and its still not on.

Dave-G
Windows live local works better for me as far as permission mapping with road names etc click here
Zapp
Regarding the age of the imagery, it has come from multiple sources (ie different satellites and even sometimes imagery from aircraft). IIRC, If you look in the bottom right corner you will be told the name of the satellite etc (ie Iconos). The reason some people end up with rubbish stuff over their area is that the latest (or sometimes the best ) available imagery is of poor resolution (sub 3m). Eventually, unless you live in the middle of the amazon, you should get something better . ZB
Baldrick
I use flashearth.com on a daily basis at work (it uses both Google Earth and Microsoft Live imagery). I also use www.magic.gov.uk for mapping fields and estates in my day job. It's just the ticket for producing maps of your permissions. dunganick
I always believed all the detailed photos were aircraft not satellite. As for age we have a car on the drive that we havent owned for a good 8 years.

Dunkield
I has to be a satellite as there is picture of an aircraft flying over the houses near me. It all depends where you live how up to date it is, our area has been updated recently, and of course they have to wait for a clear day to take the pictures. Ice
Try this it compares Vritual Earth and Google Earth side by side, one is always better than the other in different areas. http://www.jonasson.org/maps/ Have fun

Dunkield
That's a good tool. For me, Virtual Earth is blurred, it's older, and you get the airplane like you do with Google Looking at the length of the shadows the Vitual Earth pic was taken early morning, which wouldn't be much use if what you are looking for is in the shadows. A123
I find the MSN live one generally the best for most places, especially with the 3D mode, although i think u can only use that on main cities and more famous locations, its unbelievable how detailed it is!!
