Lloyd90
Looking to pick up a pair of ear defenders, cant abuse your hearing these days or might end up suffering later in life Been looking on fleabay, on problem is how do you know if the ones you see are suitable for shooting ? Mostly for shotgun shooting really, any advice is appreciated
Trussman
TBH mate, I wouldn't take the risk of purchasing of fleabay. Go to your nearest gunshop and have a look there. Electronic ones are best. They are expensive, but they are really worth it in the long run.
Lloyd90
How much would you reommend spending ?
the_commoner
mine cost me £3 off fleabay plus p & p (i think they totaled £8) and are mega delivered in 2 days just had a look on the guys fleabay site to get you a link but none left they were army surplus and were full of sand apart from that no complaints the electronic ones are miles better but for the money can't complain

Lloyd90
apparantly these ear defenders are the dogs danglies, mate of mine has said they're really good. silver_fox
apparantly these ear defenders are the dogs danglies, mate of mine has said they're really good. Going to have a look for reviews or something and probally end up getting a pair http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/produc...+Ear+Defenders/ I recently bought a pair of Caldwell electronic ear defenders from Sportsman for only £20.00, I can't fault them. I've never used electronic ones before so I have no comparison but these ones are really comfortable and the sound quality is excellent, and having worn them on a range next to someone shooting 300 win mag they cut out the sound perfectly. Vegeta
Just want to point out that the electronic ones are no better at protecting your hearing than the cheaper normal ones. They do offer the huge advantage of being able to hear conversation etc in the field and are much better for hunting as a result. Personally I put the cheapy gel ones in my ears and then throw on some peltors. Veg
Markio
not sure mine are called sotgunner but they are peltor, dark green and fold up to put in your pocket The Peltor Shogunner ear muffs are popular, i think they go for around £16 in shops. I have a pair and they do what they're meant too but since changing guns they knock on the stock and i can't wear them.
njc110381
The custom moulded plugs are amazing, but they cost about £80. Well worth it IMO, I'm just about to order my second pair as I lost the old ones when I moved house
the_commoner
thats a good point actually Markio, they do catch the side of the stock every now and then
sbald
Just a word of warning, the in ear type stop some noise but damage can be caused by the sound transmitting through the bones of the ear so always go for over the ear type. I use Peltor Sportac which are expensive but I really cannot find fault with them as you can hear whispered conversation but they still stop loud noises. EvoCars
ive got some ex mod ones (looked new), for a £1, if you want some cheap ones
Imperfection
I paid £10 for my traditional clam styled ones from gunshop and they're that good cos the only thing i can hear is the breach bolt (i shoot an auto) going back & forward making a feint metalic sound. I have partial hearing in one ear already from a childhood problem and dont want to loose it in other!
Lloyd90
I got the ones I posted a link to, very nice although might pick up a set of those ones Silver_fox mentioned since they look very nice and I could use a second pair as my brother has been out with me a few times having a go and its bloody annoying having to take them off and put them back on all the time
Nial
I got a pair of these.... http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/pd5_SHOOT...EFIRE-VALVE.htm ..as an interim measure. I'd expected them to not be very comfortable but I have to say I'm pretty pleased with them. They allow normal conversation but seem to cut out the high intensity noise very well. Nial.
