BlaserF3
I have always stored semi-auto with the bolt forwards then pull the trigger after just easing the bolt back a touch from being fully home.

Andy W
I run my extra long mop through the barrel first, put my safety flag in and close the bolt, I dont bother pulling the trigger. Next thing is .......... barrel up or barrel down.

Nial
Thanks peter peterI had noticed oil seeping out near where the stock meets the metal How much oil do you guys leave down your barrels? When I've finished cleaning my gun the barrles are dry so I spray lightly spray some napier oil on the wool mop and run it through both barrels. If I look down the barrels and can see any oil I'll dry the mop with some kitchen roll and run it through again to wick up the excess. Nial. neil smith
I always store mine barrel down on a soft bit of carpet in the bottom of the gun box to soak up any excess oil that may run out if iv'e used to much, if you store them butt down the oil will find its way into the action return spring housed within the stock & attract grit & dust & the oil tends to run out onto the stock or around the trigger group areas. I usually drop the hammer on the closed bolt to ease the pressure on the hammer spring while in storage for any length of time. N
bullet boy
Mine is stored in its own box in the gun cabinet.

I have never ever stored any of my guns barrel down and none of them have ever suffered from oil "damage". You never see them stored barrel down in Gunshops, do you. Back to the original question, like everyone else I store my semi with the bolt closed.
Imperfection
Bolt closed here too.

For those of us who don't put too much oil on - there is nothing to run. I also release the trigger spring
