vole
Went out to get a cheap satnav but then decided to spend a bit extra on a well known on and got a Tom Tom One. Seemed ok after charging and had a play. We were driving to friends tonight so not sure of the way I decided to update it on the pc as the instructions suggest. Now it will not work and has a big red X on the display.I got error messages off the website and instructions to un plug and plug device in.I have tried everything to get it working but it is as good as dead. Hence we got well lost tonight and it is going back tomorrow as it has let me down even before getting on the road. Not sure why I ask because I am going to change it for anything but Tom Tom but has anyone else had same problems? seisobs
I got one about 6 months ago, it died after a week, got my money back and bought a Sony Nav u from fleabay, it's been great, no problems at all, and it was a good bit cheaper. It's good for researching new permissions on those remote farms that you havent a clue how to get to, just punch in the post code and 'Bingo'. Jake. webber
I got one of the Aldi specials a few months ago when I started to drive again. I cant say that I have used it extensively, but it has never failed me on any occasion. webbrt

ME
I bought one of the original TomToms when they first come out. I asked the geeky techno guy at Halfords which one to get and although it was cheaper, he recommended the TomTom. My missus also has one in her car (a newer version). Ours have both been fine. "TomTom" is now pretty much the generic word for SatNav just as "Hoover" is to vacuum cleaners, there must be a reason for this.
al4x
we use Tom Tom's in all the company vehicles and for the money they are the best out there, however they do seem to fairly frequently die. Always take a back up of yours and if you have done so try and re-install the backup before taking it back. The most irritating thing about them is halfords won't take them back and you usually have to send them off to Tom Tom to be repaired leaving you without one
dunganick
Best, however most unreliable satnav i sell at work. Slightly unfair on tomtom as we sell many more than navman, garmin, sony, panasonic etc... Ive had my Navman for over a year, very good, apart from it doesnt like my renaults UV reflective windscreen.

You just need the external aerial - we had the same problem with my wife's Peugeot, now fixed
steve_b_wales
If you bought the Tom Tom from Halfords, and it's still under warranty, then they have to take it back and not tell you to send it off. Your contract is with Halfords and not TomTom. That's the law. Edited December 23, 2008 by steve_b_wales
vole
Cheers guys. All I know is that I plugged it into the pc for an update and it crashed, never to work again. Halfords can have it when I nip out later.
dunganick
That is the solution i am using, however other gps dont seem to suffer so bad. Also i was told by the navman Rep. that their products are not affected by this problem.
