i just had an air arms s200 through the door today, costs £240 (very cheap for a PCP)

It took two shots to zero in, its and amazing gun for the money. No point in spending £500 - 600 on a gun they all shoot at 12ft/lbs at the end of the day!

This rifle shoots one hole groups and is just about the cheapest PCP about, and is a very good rifle!

the AAs410 is a pretty much untouchable multi pcp in the price range, i recently bought a Theoben rapid 7 MK1, shoot half inch group at 54 yards (belive it or not) that is in my catle shed (no wind and like a runway) its runing at 12.1ftlb, you can send it all the way to 38 f/lb without doing TOMUCH damage by a turn of a bolt that is found to the rear of the gun. At 300+ shots per charge at 12 and 86 full on shots at 24. If you are feeling rich why not look at the NEW RWS - Theoben Rapid S - Rapid MFR.

If you shop arround you can pick up a decent Rapid 7 for 500 (you will find cheaper arround but sure to find poor inside)

Always had weihrauchs so put my HW97 in for the HW100 expensive, but its a weihrauch and it shows,a lot of people dont like the fact that the bottle has to be removed to charge it but I had no probs. The action was really crisp you can reload without coming off aim and the power was consistant throughout the range of the bottles built in pressure guage. The only down side is the price with a divers bottle about 700 quid.I still use a weihrauch HW80 thats about 15 years old if they built the HW100 to the same standard it should last a lifetime

I've a couple of Webley Axsors that I bought second hand, I get on well with them so my collection of spring guns get very little use now. I like the 8 shot magazine which is handy for night shooting as it saves a lot of fumbling around.

Think Jon-Boy made a lot of sense when saying they all shoot 12ftlbs, power is important to me as it helps to give best killing and flat trajectory. I'd like to try raising the power of the Axsor and using a heavier projectile.

Air rifles have faster rifling than powder rifles so there is a maximum velocity limit beyond which the rifling will strip the pellewt skirt and give poor accuracy. I've an old powder rifle barrel which my late Father was going to use to make a pre charged rifle, may get round to it one day.

I've got a Falcon FN12 Raptor Lighthunter that I love.It shoots great groups and is very consistant. It also weighs just under 6 pounds. However, it will only do 40 shots on a fill, which makes the FN19 more attractive.

That said, I saw Mark_hammond's AA410 k the other day and that's a cracking rifle for the money. When I got my '12, it was a straight choice between that and the AA410k.

My advice is to take both out and have a shoot and then decide.

Mind you, I've heard that the Mk II BSA super10 is a very good choice too.

I found the one I picked up (non carbine) a bit too heavy at the front for my liking due to the buddy bottle.

The K I saw at my local shop seemed better, but the stock was custom and had a bit more weight at the back.

Beautiful trigger on it though. Possible the best I've felt (fnaar) in a long time. Marginally ahead of the one on my falcon I'd say

only have expierence of 3 pcps namely the webley raider 2 shot very accurate nice gun just two shots was the prob but not expensive, then I got a daystate harrier 2 again accurate but I found it to be inconsistent power wise? ftlb output varied alarmingly shot after shot? spoke to a woman at daystate about it got a garbled reply about non regulated air guns!! gave up and got it looked at professionally now its a lot better I also bought an hw100 mainly because I was offered it for a song!! this gun is fantastic yes its a bit heavy but for accuracy and consistency time after time it does it for me? the local rabbits must hate it? I modified mine to take a logun silencer , but as the mark2 is fitted with what appears to be the dogs what nots of silencers, this now aint a problem oh and you get two 14 shot magazines as standard! no shelling out 45 quid for another as with my daystate and because of its indexing system you CANNOT get 2 pellets loaded together.

cheers keith

ok got a couple of questions you need to ask your self before getting the PCP rifle of your choice.

1. what is the rifle goignto be used for?

2. is it goingot be uprated and put on ticket? (FAC)

3. are you goignto fill with a bottle or a pump?

if you going to be doing mostly hunting and using a divers bottle for filling almost any precharge rifle would do the job, but stay away from the stealth, and logun S-16.

one of the top rifles in my opinion would have to be the air arms S410 with a thumbhole walnut stock (this was the best rifle i have ever owned second hand cost me £425)

if you goingto be filling with a pump it might be better to go for one of the larger capacity rifles (theoben rapid, stealth FAC version only)

almost all precharge rifles can be upgraded to FAC power levels but would need to be registered by a registered RFD to be legal as well as you needing a spare slot on your ticket (as per normal FAC regs.)

the best thing you could possibly do though is to find out where your local airgun club is and try to get along there, most clubs are very friendly places and more than happy for you to try out the rifles they have there.

a guy at our club did have a tawnado S410 at 28F/lbs and was getting around 30 shots he went on to get a rapid and now a daystate MK3 (electronic job) and he really does regret selling the air arms he had, he has said it was the best rifle he has ever had (and this from a profesional pest controller who also does a lot of work with rimmies)

hope this helps you out a little

Hi

It’s only my opinion but the Air Arms S400 or the BSA Hornet are the ones to look at. The AA s400 is as accurate as any priced a lot higher but it isn’t regulated, the Hornet is regulated (DURR). The Hornet is consistent due to the regulator but not as light as the AA S400 and not quite as accurate (slight small difference) but it come on aim quicker (for me). Both are really good value for the money.

Can I also put you of multishot rifles, after the first shot the Woodies are lofted and rushing for a second shot isn’t really an issue and its not worth paying a lot extra for the multishot capability.

PS I’ve owned and used both.

Well… as the saying goes:

You do get what you pay for

It’s not just the name you are paying for...... the spares and accessories that are available, after sales (I know AA is second to none, but so is Theoben) and then the service. Also Theoben do give you a free service every year for up to five years if ya buy a new one and send the form off!!. But you have got to also look at what you intend to do with your rifle then think of shot capacity. When I am out on a shoot I often crack about 100 shots off, Not on quarry obviously, but at the end of the day or night when you return to the car with an empty bag, like I often do , you just want to attack anything with your sights (within reason), I do like to imitate a gardener, pruning trees back!. With a multishot gun you don’t actually realise how many shots you are actually letting off, just think… you opt for the S410 K, you get to a shoot…… then 8 mags later its time for home or a trip back to the car! They day you will get 90 full charge shots! You put it on the Chrono and then see for yaself!!. Also with AA once you get to 49bar you gun empties itself anyways if I am not mistaken, I never let mine get below 100 bar.

But as a FACT the thoben Rapid range (any of them) is the most accurate air rifle under 1100 to offer. I read this in a Mag last year, ill try and route the ****** out, I can remember s410 was up there as well.

Webley Raider .177 pre charge it has a nice heavy quality feel to it. Beech stock is so dark you could be forgiven for thinking it was wallnut. 4-16 X 50 paralax scopes and a Parker Hale moderator it shoots Crossman premiers spot on. I looked at the AA s200 but put the damn thing straight back down it was too flimsy for my liking plastic bolt and the forgrip was loose and you know what they say about first impressions (it was **** in my opinion). I also have a Gunpower stealth i place at 2nd position in my current favourites list in .22 cal with 3-9 X 40 AGS sapphire series scopes with webly high mounts and a heavily modified silencer which is whisper quiet. The Stealth LOVES H&N Field target trophy pellets. And the bottom of my list is my Sheridan Pro Hunter .20 rifle with 3-9 X 40 Tasco scopes with sheridan solid mounts and is the WORST rifle i have ever had the mis fortune to shoot. Groups of over 2" at 25 yards thats at number 4. I am getting a New Logun Solo next week in .177 so there may be a shift in pole position but at the moment i am real pleased with the webley. By the way my Number 3 at the Mo is a pistol walther CP99 using CO2 bulbs and i think i am lucky if i am getting 350FPS from it. Although it is **** it still outshoots the sheridan :)

I use a Logun Axor and a Bsa Hornet both in .22

The Hornet is a much underrated gun and great for lamping.

I use the Axor for summer rabbiting or thinning out the Rookeries in April.

I also take it Pigeon shooting occassionally when there are a lot of woodies on the rape or pitching into laid grain in the summer. You dont scare the flocks miles away. Only problem is you have to rely on landing birds so a hide near a tree is a bonus. Can be very good sport though even if shooting opportunities are limited.

I believe Air Arms make the best precharged and spring guns in the country. The 410 being popular for a very good reason.

I've got a Logun s16 and i love it,i know they have their faults and aren't everyones cup of tea but once you get used to the quirks they are a cracking hunting tool.My only fault with the gun is its a bit too heavy (9 1/2+ lbs)for walking long distances.Which is why i have just bought a Domin8or(off this site as it happens),i was supposed to go out with it last night but if you have read my earlier thread, you'll know that i didn't.Had a bit of plinking today and was impressed,i'll let you know more when i've given it a good go.

Am i right in assuming the pellet sticking in the breech problem is a USERS fault? meaning it's caused by people not closing the breech action properly and when the air escapes the pellet does not clear the breech. And then as you pull the bolt back you load another pellet straight into the back of the last one?? I still fancy a S16 but will wait till the gun shops drop the price again

Thats what i find amusing,9 times out of 10 the problems with the s16 are user errors but they slag the gun to their mates, they tell their mates then all of a sudden the gun is sh#t and slagged off by people who have never used one,let alone owned one.I'm not saying the gun is perfect, far from it,it does have issues(O rings for example),its just far better than people make out.(in my opinion of course).

p.s anyone wanna but one??
