Wookie
That weekend's good, but I stupidly said I would run a 10k race on the Sunday, so the Saturday is better for me. Doing anything after the race that does not involve sitting down and having a nice cup of isotonic tea is going to be a struggle. It wasn't me stalking. Maybe it was another one of your fanboys

rabbithunter
Well i at last got a chance to shot at 300 yards with the HMR @ a 3" bull weather was not the best, what with the wind but a found a sheltered spot alone the side of a wood. Set the target up and went back to 300 yards (lazered) I had a few shot,s a little in front of the target to get some idea of how much holdover would be needed to get out to 300 .When i was happy that i found my mark i settled down with the gun on the bipod and shot my 5 bullets . Looking at the target it looks like a 4" ish group with only one in the bull so i for one will not be shooting at live stuff at anything over 150 yards

magman
rabbithunter What sort of holdover did you have to use ? Decent group for a 300 yrd target with the hmr
LeeinVA
I think that's pretty damn good shooting !And was a lot better group than i was expecting That little bit of a round has alway been my favorite.. Its a pint sized big game rifle.. The little gun that could, plus you dont go broke feeding the rifle or your habit.. Good shooting bud Edited March 14, 2009 by LeeinVA

Evil Elvis
Nice one. I have a friend who has his own shooting range, he has 100, 200 and 300 yards ranges( Built for his .243) . He recently moved onto a hmr form a .22lr, and not having read a lot of the bull **** on here didnt know what it could and couldn't do. He zeroed it at 100 yards and was doing more or less same hole groups.( he is the most naturally good shot i have met...EVER) Incidentally he used a fallen tree to line the bunker, the hmr round not only didnt shatter but out of 20 odd rounds 5-6 went right through 16" of tree trunk!!! then without adjusting the zero, he shot the 200 yards range and got pretty much the same result on the target. then again without adjusting the zero, he did it again at 300 yards and got a good 3" group with no holder over This was all quite innocently done, and upon shooting with him recently....outshoots me everytime and regularly takes rabbits out to 225+......where i can only just see them!!! All the shots including targets were taken sitting in his landy shooting out of the window, I cant wait to see what he can do with his newly acquired .243!!!! Next tiem i go up to shoot with him Ill ask him to repeat this feat and record it for properity. The gun is a cz american, and ill find out later what the scope is. Dunkield
Good stuff. So can you just confirm for PW that the hmr will shoot 100, 200 and 300 yards without any holder, as in... then again without adjusting the zero, he did it again at 300 yards and got a good 3" group with no holder over If does, I will put in for my variation on Monday. Sorry evil but that's BULL!..A 17hmr will not shoot flat, out to 300 yards. Also a bit dubious about a bullet passing through 16" of tree trunk. al4x
EE sorry but it was ok till you said no holdover and the 16" of tree, your mate must be compensating for drop. However on a range with a good shot the 3" group is perfectly possible.

At the very least you'll have a bacon buttie and a cuppa waiting for you! I'm hoping that we'll have some semi-conclusive evidence to disprove this by early afternoon on Saturday everyone. The PW Mythbusters are on the case.
