markb
Hi all I'm looking for a new scope, and just wondered what the general opinnion of the Hawke range of scopes is? I'm looking for a mildot scope not massive magnification as it's only going on the rf, but I would like the font end to be 50mm to let the light in
bullet boy
Hawke scopes are good but i prefer either Nikko Sterling or Simmons. It really depends what you want to pay for a scope?JSR range are excellent budget priced scopes and are also in Mil-Dot format. realtreedave
iv got a hawke eclipse on my 22lr,it came already fitted to the rifle,i cant fault it,but personaly i would fit either a walther or a rhino[iv got 4 rhino scopes now and im toying with replacing the eclipse with a rhino]

Wookie
I've got a 4-12x50 Sport HD on my .22lr and it's a good bit of kit. Cheap, clear optics, mil-dot. No frills, but a solid scope. Ok, they are cheap and they say you should spend the same on a scope as you do on the rifle, but I really can't fault it for use on my CZ. It works well with the lamp as well, even though it is not illuminated.

Zapp
I have a Hawke 3-9x50 mildot IR on my .22lr and cant fault it. Go for it! ZB
shoot57
i have three hawke scopes, hawke eclipse on an air rifle, sidewinder 30 on an hmr, endurance 30 on a 223, if you are after value for money then you wont go wrong with this brand of scope as they seem to have a scope range to suit every pocket. had a pleasant surprise last week i had a look through a friend of mines leupold and could not see any difference bearing in mind his scope cost a lot more than the hawke

Cannon
I have a Hawke Min Dot (MIN dot is just a tiny dot in the centre of the crosshairs) It's a 4-16X44 and cost £70. The optics are better than my Simmons and it feels more solid. Would recommend them
Al Downie
I have a new Sidewinder 30 (4-16x50), bought because it ticked all the boxes for me - very bright and crisp, fancy SR6 reticle, illuminated, side parallax down to 10m. Also came with large sidewheel and sunshade. I haven't been using it for very long, but so far it seems very good. I compared it to several other scopes, including the MTC equivalents, and I thought the build quality and smoothness of ring adjustment on the Hawke was much better than any of the others. There's only one thing that's a wee bit rubbish - the turret block is so bulky on the underneath of the scope that, even with high mounts, it interferes with the magazine (old style) on my Air Ranger. I used to do a lot of birding with very expensive optics (Leica & Swarovski) and I don't doubt that the glass in a Leupold/Zeiss/Swarovski scope is vastly superior to the Hawke or any other low-end scope, but I don't believe that kind of quality of image is absolutely critical in a riflescope. markb
Thanks for the replies guy's, seem to be mostly positive about the make, like I said at the moment I am just looking, I already have a Bushnell 3-9x40 on the 22rf not sure what model though, probably £60 or £70 range. I also have a Simmons 3-9x40 again budget end of the model range, but I do think that the Simmons is slightly brighter, certainly easier to adjust. I was asking about the Hawke range as that's what one of my local rfd seems to have the most of, apart from the more expensive makes, and I'm always a bit sceptical about ordering easily damaged items mail order. In one way I am lucky as there are about 5 or 6 rfd's all about an hour or so away from where I live, guess I'll keep looking for a while, but before I change my scope I really need a bipod, so thats first on my list, so has any one got a decent 2nd hand harris bipod for about £20 I am just going to have to be very nice to the other half for a while, any way it's her birthday next month plans are already in place, cheers Mark

smiiithy
I'm using the Hawke Eclipse 3-9x50 Mildot IR on my BSA XL Tactical. It came with a 2 part mount which I think might be causing me zeroing problems. Could anybody advise on the best mounts to use? I've heard the single piece mounts are better but don't really know what I'm looking for. Cheers, Mike
George1990
I have a super cheap 3-9x40 Hawke on my air rifle, which is fine for the air rifle, but wouldn't want it on my HMR. Dad has a high spec one on his air rifle and is a lot better, though the parallax adjuster is very stiff and the light transmission nothing amazing. My BSA seems better overall, though loses zero every now and then. Not sure how good the Hawke is at holding zero, which has to be the most important thing. V. good for the price though
Frenchieboy
I had a 40mm Hawk Scope on my .22 Semi Auto for a while and could not fault it. I only changed it because a cheap 3-9 X 50mm (Tasco) scope came up at the right price. I prefere a 50mm as much of my shooting is done in low light situations. With regards to "Budget Scopes" (Hawk, Tasco, JSR, etc) many of them are well up to the job and I can not fault them! I am on a very tight budget so have to make do with what I can get when the pennies allow so I even have a cheap JSR 6-24 X 50 (Illuminated Reticule) scope in my BSA 22-250 (OK some of you might laugh and say why put something so cheap on a rifle of that caliber) and I do not have any problems with accuracy of with the scope holding its zero, in fact I think for its price its a great scope! There's a lot to be said for some of the cheaper end of the market scopes!
