varmintator
Was shooting the other night with some winchester Subs, I thought they were pretty **** just were not knocking down the rabbits. They were hit hard but still jumped and one even ran 20 yards Normally shoot Eley subs and never had a problem they just knock them down. Anyone have same problem. I am going to plink the winchesters and go back to Eley.
minghis
They are the hollow point 40grain ones? I use HVs now but never had a problem with the Winchester Subs - in fact everyone around here swears by them.
Baldrick
My findings are quite the opposite: Winchester have greater knock-down power, whereas Eley tend not to expand so rapidly. However Winchester's QC is utter sh*te. I stick with Eley (and RWS if I can get hold of it).
steve_b_wales
I have used Winchester 22 sub's for many years. They started off with a 38gr head before increasing to 40gr. I have never had any problems with them. I suppose they don't suit everyone's rifle. I use mine in my BRNO and Ruger 10/22.
radio1ham
chances are is the bullet going straight through the rabbit and its the addrellinin making the rabbits run on , it happens to me aswell but never found any problems with winchesters s/s
Dead-Eyed Duck
Winnies have greater velocity (?) and Eley slightly better accuracy - that's what I've always thought. Winnies are better in semi autos due to the increased oooomph Don
luckytrigger
Ive used winnie's ever since getting my fac. Very good knock down power and they cycle well in the ruger.
varmintator
Thanks for the comments I like the Winchesters for the fact that when there is a round up the spout it does not get stuck up and I can eject the round if I need to. With the Eley it wont eject if it has not been fired. I will persevere with them as you all think they are good
njc110381
If you don't eat the bunnies try this trick. Get yourself a syringe and needle from the chemist. Suck up some silicon grease in the syringe then fit the needle. File the needle flat and use it to inject the hollow points with grease. When they impact they really do make a mess. Don't know why but it works great on stuff you really want dead but don't want to eat

Watching 'Day of the Jackal', where Edward Fox fills up .22WMR HPs with fulminate of mercury? I am curious though, and will give it a try. Rem223
I've always had good results with the Winchester subsonice but I prefer the RWS.
bruno22rf
my brno hates winnie stuff-i may as well chuck gravel.IMHO RWS are easily the best followed by eley as a close runner up.
scout
I've always used Winnies in by CZ and have never had this problem.
lapwing
I find Winchester subsonic work fine in my Brno. Seem to kill bunnies deader than other makes, but occasionally a chest shot will run 20 yards then keel over kicking but dead. I seldom take head shots as they are not always fatal, and then you have a highly mobile unpleasant injury. Through the shoulders isnt going far, even if you do loose the front end meat. stevethevanman
The winchesters have a larger hollow point and the eley and winchester both weigh 40gr and they both travel at roughly the same velocity  ...so logic might tell you winchesters are the better killers However you may have better accuracy with one as if you simply say il try diffrent ammo tonight and load the mag your zero will be off..so when you thought you were chesting them you might be gut shooting them? Almost all my chest shots with 22lr subs go through out to 65yds Steve
