viking
a couple of months ago i bought some hide poles from swillington shooting suplies, the picture on there websit showed them with kick plates, but when i got them home they didnt have them on, i rang them and they said it was on old photo and they dont sell them ones any more, they said i could get my money back but by this time i had used them and as the soil was soft i wasnt to bothered, now its hard im wishing i had some, so my question is, does any one know where or if i can get get some to attatch to my poles, cheers, Lee
radio1ham
if the tubing is of decent thickness maybe you could drill through and use a long nut and bolt or maybe if anyone near you got welding gear could weld some a couple of bits of angle iron (thin stuff) on to them for you just a thought
Blunderbuss
Lee have a look about half way down the second page on this thread. Also here.
John_R
Some fishing tackle shops sell a kick plate to help get bank sticks in. It slides on and grips while under pressure, so one would do for all if it fits OK.
rigwallet
ive had same problem i put bits on and the pole buckled under pressure what i would say a thick ally bar welded on would last and where youhave them welded force a piece of steel rod down the pole to support the pole against stress fractures
steve_b_wales
What I did a few years ago was to get some 3x2 timber. I cut it into wedges, and then drilled a hole imto the 'top' of the wedge. I could then stamp the wedge into the ground and then insert the poles into the wedges. This worked well, but I eventually bought 'proper' ones. Edited June 5, 2009 by steve_b_wales
pintail
i started with diy poles but they never did the job in the end i bunged out £40 for a set of 4 never regretted it they are so easy to use.
Toombsy
Hello mate, If you can't find a solution to the kick plate problem you could try one of these fishing banksticks... CLICK They are produced by Dinsmores and most good tackle stockists sell them. They screw into the ground really easily, I've had mine for 10 years and it's still rock solid, and they are perfect for drilling a hole deep enough to ram in your hide poles even in the hardest ground. And when you've used it you can stick a decoy on it, to lift it off the crops a bit. Think the shortest one is about £6-ish.

A bolt 22.250
If you put a Peace of solid bar that fits snug in the pole (i used 13mm threaded bar) first then drill a hole and put a 13mm bolt throw with a nut on both sides of the pole this holds bolt in place and insures pole does not bend works a treat. mikee
i just take a 3/4" steel pin and a lump hammer, knock it in, give it a wriggle, pull it out and insert hide pole, simple and cheap, if the ground is soft leave it in the car mikee
