On Friday I decided to have a drive round and do some reccying for the weekend on the Barley and Wheat fields, I drove round dozens of fields and only saw a few flicking about here and there. I pulled into a farm and spoke to the farmer who told me had driven off 400+ pigeons earlier on that day. The fields were Barley and it had dozens of flat spots everywhere. I drove over to have a look about 5.00pm and there were hundreds dropping in on all fields. I rang up my mate Alan and told him where we were to go Saturday morning. SATURDAY We all arrived at the fields and drove right round the cut headlands and found the farmhand had just set up. After a few words we moved on and decided to spread out and hopefully bounce the birds around to each other. It was hot, humid and hardly any breeze at all. I set up about 500 yards on the hedgerow adjacent to the farmhand. Alex and Lee were immediatey down my right hand hedgerow. So we now had 3 sides of the large field covered. Alan and Paul set up on the first field, about 750 yards behind me, under a tree about 40 yards into the field. The birds started to show straight away and the farmhand was banging away quite merrily and we all were soon having a regular show of birds. Al and Paul were fairly quiet at first just getting the odd shot now and again. By 2 o'clock I had shot 62 and Alan was starting to shoot steadily. Then it went CRAZYYYYYY for them. They were shooting every 30 seconds or so right up to when we finished. I couldn't believe the amount of banging I could here behind me. When we went to help them pick up the huge sack of cartridges was impressive to say the least. The pigeons were still banging in like no tomorrow.RESULTSMyself - 141 pigeonsAlex and Lee - 95 pigeonsAlan and Paul - 309 FANTASTIC BAG BOYS!!!!!!!! :good: :yahoo: Total 545 Farmhand at that stage we didn't know because he was still shooting, and I said he must have shot at least 150-200 . Later on after ringing the farmer he told me the lad ( who I found out was PW member Bunnyblaster), had shot 227 pigeons. Nice bag Ben. TOTAL for the day - 772 pigeons. I got home about 8.30pm and was asleep by 9 o'clock.SUNDAY Up nice and early and rang Alan and said we just got to go back there again. We very,very rarely shoot the same fields two days on the trot but in this case we had to. Upon arrival it was spitting with rain and a decent breeze too. We decided to switch fields and myself and Alex set up on the first fied and Alan and Paul went to the large field. They set up about 200 yards further up the field from where Bunnyblaster had been and we went under the tree. Brolly up and my new RINGER PRINTED decoys and magnet and ff4 flapper out, we waited in anticipation. It was very slow and by 11.00am we had only shot 32 and by then Alan and Paul had packed up as they had only shot 6. Asked if we were coming with them for a mooch. We declined and decided to sit it out for the hopefully massive insurge in the afternoon. After a short while we were starting to get steady action and Alan called me to say they had broken down just off the motorway. The jeep just wouldn't start. They had arranged for a tow back and had to sit by the side of the road for 1 1/2 hours. In the meantime spot had picked up for me and Alex and we were on our way to 200 pigeons. Then, to our shock and disbelief a head appears round the side of the umbrella and some BIG geezer says "alright lads, Iwaqs having a pee and just saw the pigeons spinning round and thought I would come see what was happening". I said to him " are you mental or something? creeping up on some guys shooting and then sticking your head round the hide." He's standing there with an empty vodka bottle in his hand, explaining it was his birthday and he had just been to the cemetery to have a drink with his mate who had died. Then to our SHOCK and HORROR he asked me if he could have a go with my shotgun, woud it be legal? I won't repeat on here what I said but on the lines of sling your hook.( standing there ****** up, wanting to have a go with my shotter.) He then asked if he could have an empty shell case to fit on his lighter. I told him to get one and go as he was trespassing. He said sorry and went. This by now had un-nerved Alex a bit. We had another couple of shots and Alex turned to say the lad was now running back towards the hide. At this, I moved the guns to the opposite end of the hide and he came up and asked for 4 or 5 more spent cases for his mates. I told him to take them and get gone. !!!!!! Weird or what ? Maybe an ANTI? We carried on shooting and finally by 5.30pm we shot the 200th bird and Aex wanted to pack up but after a quick calculation I said we only needed 34 more to make 1,000 pigeons shot on the same fields. After a bit of persuasion he agreed to stay. We shot the next 34 in a very short space of time and on the 1,000 mark we jumped up and had a bit of a congratulatory dance. He then said " right, time to go". but my arithmetic mind said " hold on, we only need 16 more to make our bag 250". We decided to stop.lol. Shot 16 more and as we started to pull down the hide a dozen flew in and Alex grabbed his shotgun and had a lovely left and right to end the day.Total nowMyself and Alex - 252 pigeons.Al and Paul - 6 pigeons Days total - 258 weekend accumulative total 1,024 pigeons (off 2 barley fields) The hits and the misses (video to follow) Starting the big pick up A lot of hard graft and a fortune in cartridges, and a very very happy bunch of shooters. propercartridges Posted July 14, 2014 Report Share Posted July 14, 2014 what cartridges were you using?? and what price do you pay I have some in Leicester if you want to try some free samples after that 30 gram 6 x 169 or 189 for 32 ask matty about them well shot its a pity you cannot pick them but I know if you don't go he will get somebody else so you have to do it to keep your ground I once got chucked of for not shooting feral pigeons but I did not know if they were racers as I was near to a town what can you do and people r now running around paying thanks george Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
