need help with rat bait. i have a rat (rats) at the bottom of garden about 30 metres. it/they won't stop long enough to shoot. so i'm trying to trap have had a couple. using all kinds of trap from fenn, snap and live trap cage. have trail cameras videoing them sniffing and ignoring the traps for more than a month. tried peanut butter, chocolate spread, beef paste, chicken paste, tuna paste, bird seed and peanuts. can stand in side back door and watch him/them running around with my yukon ranger's and they are big enough to trip the PIR flood light. looking for a bait that they can't walk by.

any ideas.

don't like poison.

moving is not a option!!

If I'm shooting at nite as i don't have vision, I put an empty dog food can on the concrete. Leave a bit of food in the bottom and crush the open end a bit. As soon as I hear the can rattle I flick the lamp on with the scope pretty much on the target already. Usually gives me a few seconds to get a shot off before it bolts.

The favoured bait for shooting by professional ratters is Nutella diluted with vegetable oil its apparently rat heaven.

The diution is to ensure they dont just run off with a bit but stay and lick the liquid. Bet your bottom dollar though that they are breeding and poison is the very best solution.

as kes said this is a good shooting bait. But think about a good professional poison placed properly, every time you bait you could be attracting other rats from a wider area increasing your problem,

If they are not going in the traps no more its called behavourial resistance, once you have caught some in traps next to others it stops them from going to them as they no it causes harm.all you can do now is bait with poison which will have effect with in 3 to 5 days.remove bird feeders ie peanuts, chicken feed if you have any as this is the antidote, vit k1 which will help them pull throught it.or if you no some lads with a smoker and terriers let them have some fun 😀😀😀.

can't see where or how they are getting in, must be over the fence. going to try tonight with the bsa scorpion se in .25 and the ns200. just been sighting in at the correct distance. i don't use bird food or put any other food sources in the garden only whats in the traps. so i don't know why they are here. i've put out two poison boxes.
