X comp cartridges

Recommended Posts

A friend and I were standing behind a chap a few days ago and by the very low sound and puny breaks of his shells both thought he was shooting a 21g subsonic !! In fact he was shooting 28g Comp X we later learned, I have seen people use these to good effect on clays before and shot a few myself but if those are indicative of their latest batch or offering I would not recommend them for anything other than mild riot control.

I'm always going on about 6s being great for pigeons.

However even 21g 7.5s loads can take pigeons, get the birds close. I say 6s in 32g as an all-round shell because distance is the x factor.

Get em in close.

lol i used these exact shells meself only the other weekend, full used used and results of if i remember correctly were just over 200 birds. although i did use my 1/2 & 3/4 chokes where i normally use 1/4 & 1/2 and yes get them in CLOSE

I have a SBS with 1/4 & 1/4 english game gun that I thought may be use these cartridges through it,

I have had this slab since last year may be they will be OK.

Many thanks for the feed back, I will take the X comp cartridges pigeon shooting tomorrow but also have some of my extreme pheasant on hand just in case the pigeon don't pay ball,I will give some feedback tomorrow night.

williamr.

I don't want to sound like a 'know all', but any cartridge loaded with 7.5 shot should be able to take pigeons cleanly at 40 yards. I shot some screamers last week with Gamebore velocity 28gm 7.5.

I have used these before and found them to lack any power, wouldn't cycle in either my sx3 or a mates beretta auto, and when i had my sxp it didnt like them either.

Could be the fact that even the 28g doesn't have much recoil and is only in a 65mm case.
