  1. inbetween glouc and chelt.hehe
  2. I was reading a little book that says to cage/crate him but make sure it is on the smaller side as he will not mess/wee in his room. is this right. only reason im asking is i have a brand new crate that we use to have for a terrier, i guess i will have to dig it out to get sizes but its about 18"x24"x30" at a guess. thanks for the pointers as well. downstairs it is and get up in the night every few hours. every 3 hours ok or go a bit longer?
  3. The wife and i have been talking about a dog for a few years. this year we decided the kids are old enough not to run round grabbing it every 5 minutes. the decision was made 6 months ago to go for a cocker as it came come out with me on the shoot or pigeon bashing and then it can come home to family life. will this work? I dont know but everyone we spoke to said yes, the cocker would fit in just nicely. we put out name down on a list and then 4 weeks ago one has come up. we had the chose of the little so was happy with that. we ended up with a small male that has a tail like a clockwork mouse and is always out and about rather than being with his mum. he is 4 weeks old and the 18Th of October he will be 8 weeks and able to come home to us. we might get it all wrong but with a little help from you guys, and the book we have, we might just get a little bit right and a little bit more wrong. he has been named after the wife waking up all hours of the night thinking about names. i was talking one day about teague choke for the browning and the wife said that there use to be a mike teague that played rugby for gloucester so it has sort of stuck and now named Teague. this is him at 4weeks. the wife is worrying about getting it wrong, i am as well if truth be known, would you put the pup up stairs in the cage, at night, to start with and take him out a few times in the night to wee or downstairs and hope we wake up to take him out. the wife has bought one of these heat discs that you put in the microwave and it then stays warm for up to 12 hours just to give him the warmth but she is now saying a bout an old tick tock clock as well??? we all have to start somewhere i guess so please be a little gentle.hehe. thanks for any advice in making this a little easier. kind regards Phil.
  4. I have a germen army bag from the surplus store. cost about £12 but it gets every thing in. is is a rucksack type so on the sholders it goes. put the camo net in the shoulder strap area as theres nothing worst than having a crow beak in the spine.
  5. Im carp fishing tomorrow. had enough . they have just drilled one field today. loads and loads of seagulls and a million blackies but no where to put a hide so rotary in black ads a few decks sort of worked.
  6. I get them in the garden as well as magpies, crows and jackdaws. the kids will not let me kill the squirrels but its a pain as it keeps loosing its nuts and they grow all over the place. this is the first year for a very long time that we have had song birds around as we use to have 30-40 jackdaws around, nesting in the chimney pots and that. I just spoke to one or two of the naiboughs and they said to shoot the bl00dy things as there blocking there chimneys. next thing, they all wanted me to.hehe. I put them in the deep freeze and use them as decks when I'm out with the shotgun.
  7. none here today either. just the black stuff and thats not the cold legless juice either
  8. Can you give a bit more detail on how you made them, Pics would be good. Cheers Andy All i did was cut a pattern out of a board that looked like a pecking pigeon. then spray contact glued the kids old grey school trousers on and then trimmed. I then cut a little bean shape out of a paper spray suit and then stapled it onto the neck area and painted eyes and a beck on ( there not on the above photo as i did it after. next i cut two dee shapes out the paper suit and painted with acrylic pain. White, Black and Blue. this paint is waterproof when dry and cheap as chips from tesco's. paint one to look like the under side of the bird and then one to look like the top. the main thing is getting the white wing bars on it. i didn't paint the wing bars but just left the white of the suit to show. then just sew the top and bottom together so the painted bits are on the inside. your sewing it so you have a pocket. then turn inside out and staple it onto the plastic body you made earlier. to get then to bounce i found that a trip to the auto breakers for there short 12" airels to be spot on. I will take some photos when i make more as i am now thinking about make black ones as well for the crows and jacks so i can see me making 30 more so will try and remember to take some photos. this just gives idea of the shape. top and bottom are the same shape just painted different. this is the bottom half way though painting. hope that helps a little. regards Phil..
  9. Im finding that from lunch time until 4pm at the moment but only coming in in one and two's, fine by me as i'm new to it so im only loading one cart at a time as i kept going for the glory shot and just wasting in the semi. 23 yesterday afternoon but i missed 3 times that meny.

  11. I went out yesterday with my new home made painted spray jackets and the birds just kept coming in. Estate agent boards for the body, this i glue and trim the kids old grey school trousers to. then the bodies are made from white tyvex painting suits that i very rough paint with acyilc paints and then just staple in place. a bit like the silo sock ones. I have only made a dozen to see what happens and as there working i will do a dozen more and then some crow ones as well as their so easy.
  12. Have a bump!! I looked for a long time for the right cocker. when I did find a litter so i could have a good pick i had to be quick as the sold like hot cakes. I paid £475 but then that's is a male, d.d/c and K/C. nothing else. Oh i did manage to get free training lessons out the breeder.hehe. 4 more weeks to go then Teague is coming home here's mine. best of luck and hope all goes well for you. can we see some pic's please.
  13. Gloucester address but come under cheltenham for firearms. Sent of for ticket and then left it a week, got a letter saying that they had sent the forms to the FLO, left it another week and then phoned Gary Taylor (FLO Gloucester/Forest) told him that the farmers were on the phone all the time trying to get crop control but as i was shooting with a friend and his misses had just had a baby, i couldnt do anything about it and was losing permissions. he text-ed me to say he had spoken to the FLO for my area and they will be in touch, i didnt stand for that so i phoned the Chelt FLO and left her a message. phone call later that day saying she was gong to get the paperwork and do the basic check the following week. she phone on the Monday saying paperwork was in order so house visit was needed. thursday she came out and we had a chat and giggle as you do. then she said all was good but the chief had to rubber stamp and that could take 4 more Weeks. ******. waited as there was nothing else i could do. 2 weeks later the ticket came. alrighty. then mate said he was selling him browning gold, double alrighty, i have now a Browning Gold Hunter in camo. 6 weeks from he handing forms into bearland to the ticket in hand. been out everyday for the last 2weeks banging pigeons and blackies.

  15. I Have a cocker on order, hehe. 18th october, wife is like a kid waiting for christmas.lmao. I have been looking into book to try and help make the transition form puppy to gundog/house dog a little easier. the books i have found by Keith Erlandson are the working springer spaniel and gundog training. Is it the working sringer book that your talking about or is there another one that i cant find. I will be, hopefully, popping over to see puppy this week so i might have to see if the camera works this time as i stuffed it up on the last visit. thanks gents. Kind regards Phil.

  17. I'm new to the pigeons as well. gun i use a browning gold camo S/A camo netting and a few hide poles. i bought a few pecking full body plastics and a pack of 12 half shells I made my own magnets and the hyper flapper tpye birds for the ends and then made 12 silosock types decoys that all work very well. coat and trousers from local arm surplus. vial from the CLA fair. cartridges were all that had at the time so 32g number 6, 70mm game specials been out a few time now and banging birds. i breast the birds on site and put the left overs in the hedge. these feed the foxes and helps to stop the foxes taking as many game birds. i have just got the motor to make the flapper as i need to clear the crows as well as there bluming loads here. regards Phil
  18. I have the browning gold and its way to nice to sell. only sticking my head is as i thought the browning auto's were all ambidextrous, you can also take the safety out and turn it around so your pressing to release. just the loading is right handed. i love my browning. so smooth and little recoil. good luck in selling. regards Phil.
  19. been out a few times with a good friend on the pigeons and loved it. been shooting air rifles for 30 ish years and still enjoy using them, but i applied for my ticket 8 weeks ago and on friday is turned up, then that night me friend siad he wanted to change his auto so i now have a browning gold in camo. went out Saturday on some land i have permission on. set up my home made rotary with home made flappers. and 12 half shells. oh and a magpie that i popped out from the living room window just before i left.hehe. i a good afternoon watching all the wild life as well as banging a few pigeons. 58 cart to 19 birds. not that great but i was still happy with 33% hits. had to pack away as the pigeons just stopped coming as soon as the battery died on the rotary. i have 3 different ones that i have made so i will take a different one with me next week and see what happens on battery life. anyway, thanks to all you on here for all the good advice and all that i have read and a big thanks to my mate Steven for all his help..............and the browning. now i have to find how to get more black ******* as i like to shoot them. thanks all, regards Phil.
  20. How do you use the call. i have the acme one and all i can call with it is pigeons. can seen to suss out the sort of call needed.
  21. all i have done with my shell sticks was drill a hole in the balance point of the shell. theres a little mark on mine so easy done. then i drilled a little hole the the grey plastic stick, after cutting the hook off the stick. then a little piece of wire glued into the stick. in the field i push the stick in the ground and then put the hole in the shell over the wire. the shell bounces up and down but also moves left n right in the wind. they still weight the same as before but now can rotate and bounce
  22. it wouldn't really matter anyway andrew as paypal can not take money out of a bank account to pay. they can only pay you from what is in his paypal account, so all he has to do is empty his account and you get nothing. this has happened to me a few times now. best would be to get all your information together and speak to the police on deception charges.
  23. i gave up as it was £15 on ebay posted to the door. couldnt make it for that.
