  1. Final comment-Mr BB-He DIDNT ask for advice on seasons. My original post said, pretty much, the same as yours concerning legal/moral issues-it was simply dressed differently.Cant remember where or when I first learned about closed seasons but I do remember doing a whole load of studying BEFORE I went shooting-would,nt have really mattered in my case anyway cos I dont shoot game birds (with any gun).
  2. Yep-got me there with the missing "h"-mind you-peasants who wander down local lanes with airguns are considered fair game by most keepers local to me.
  3. 1/ Neither-the best option is to find out the legal places to shoot before venturing forth.2/He clearly states that he buys a lot of game birds from his local market-did he not notice that they had suddenly gone from the stalls and ever wonder why?-yet he says he had to be told!3/At no point in his post did he ask if pheasants were considered a suitable quarry for airguns-his intention was to shoot one until he was informed that the season had ended.4/
  4. Clearly you are right Mr Blunderbuss-I can see how thinking that it is o.k. to carry a firearm "down our local lanes"is a mistake easily made. And I suppose that it is painfully difficult to find out when the closed season is or, for that matter, what quarry is acceptable as fair game for Airguns.I must learn to be more tolerant.
  5. "started off down the local lanes"? Is that not armed trespass plus carrying a firearm in a public place? "would,nt mind bagging a peasant"? controversial to say the least and the final **** in the water pipe "but i,ve been told that they are out of season"-you mean you did,nt know?-you are out hunting and dont even know the seasons? Is this a wind up or what?
  6. I think I know exactly the place you are thinking of but to be sure can you describe your sister and her mate?
  7. But how far is far?-Not a bad voice but nothing special if you listen carefully-not ugly enough for the sympathy vote.
  8. No disrespect to anyone using a broker but i,m struggling to think of anything easier than arranging home insurance. You simply tell the comparison websites what you want and save a small fortune. You then have 14 days to cancel or amend your details-simples.
  9. I cannot see how any responsible shooter can venture out in the field without his electric gun sparking away under his arm.In my case the benefits are undeniable because i couldnt hit a cows rrrrr with a banjo without my Maplins Mega zapper. The only downside,i find, is that with electricity prices being so high-I simply cannot afford to shoot much during the day and often find myself wandering around in the wee dark hours using the cheaper economy seven option. My wife is looking into changing suppliers and getting our gas and leccy from the same company simply so that I can get out of the house more often and allow her more time with her personal trainer.
  10. If,by any chance, you shop at Tesco then make sure you have a club card-it doesnt take long to accumulate enough points for the top level RAC cover that costs about £50 in vouchers.
  11. O.K. so i found BGT quite amusing over the last few series but after having to endure Saturdays dire excuse for entertainment i will not be watching any more.Is it me getting old or does anyone else on here ,unfortunate enough to have endured saturdays offering, think that the 2 new judges are sexually self-sufficient and that the show proves that Britain has burger all talent.
  12. I,ve bought and sold a handfull of guns via the "for sales" section so ,if i,m allowed it,my opinion is that the new gunwatch is horrible-i used to enjoy looking at the gun sales and submitting/reading some of the comments but now i dont bother-looked at gunwatch once and not been back there since.
  13. Anyone ever tried a "Weasel ball"?-I wonder if you covered the ball in grey fur and put said toy out in clear view (but within shotgun range)the crows would be interested enough to come have a closer look?
  14. I cannot see any problem with you taking a slow walk around-the rabbits must be used to people walking around most of the time so should,nt be as jumpy as those who live right out in the fields.Keep things simple at this stage as you are just beginning to find your feet and you will need to know the land inside out before you try lamping.Keep your pace slow and ,as much as possible, the wind in your face-try and find a secluded corner somewhere to gut any rabbits that you shoot-this will be a good place to bait with a dead Bunny when you decide to have a go at the corvids.
  15. Try putting a voltmeter across the battery terminals when the engine is running-increasing the revs should see the voltage increasing-simples.If your battery has not been charged and discharged regularly over the winter then its most likely u/s.
  16. With an Air Rifle and no transport i,m afraid you,re going to have a job getting most landowners to take you seriously.Occasions where you will make a decent dent in the pest population will be few and far between and most landowners want results-fast.Some areas of the country are virtually impossible to get shooting on(and yet in some others its child,s play) so you,re giving yourself handicaps that you can do without by not having wheels-I understand that, for economic reasons, you dont have transport but I can also imagine the look on a landowners face when you explain the reason why you could,nt move the pigeons off his drilling was because the bus was cancelled. If you were closer I would be glad to help out but I fear that you are going to need a lot of luck.
  17. Cant stand the ********-A Gerry and a Greek who drain this country and are so out of touch with reality that it hurts. As for bringing in money-i think we would generate more income kicking them out of their palaces and opening the buildings up for tourism.
  18. I know over 20 people who catch these horrid things and eat them-getting a licence is a waste of time in most parts of the country cos theres no native crays left.I believe that ,with a licence, you are only permitted on one particular stretch of water and you have to log/identify your catch.Catch as many as you can-use fish heads from your local fishmonger as bait and get the dam things out of the water-but dont make the mistake of offering them your finger-thems aint friendly critters.
  19. Dear happyshooter-im a little concerned that your eyes may not be up to night shooting-this is the Airgun section.

  21. Would all those who were offended by the word "******" please stand up and be counted.(If your surname is Chan then your vote might not be counted but you may still be charged..........)
  22. Maybe a little time spent checking your facts would be time well spent *danny*-this is not considered a racist comment by anybody other than people who have nothing better to do or say than nit pick at other peoples posts.Check Wiki.
  23. I think that you should show the government that they cant mess with you-only buy a packet of fags every time you fill up with 140ltrs of fuel.
  24. What Duncan is forgetting is that my 2 pigeons were so high they were on oxygen and my 2 crows were so far away that they spoke a different language!!!!!Great day with great company and a few birds was just what the doctor ordered Duncan and that,s what I got.Must also add that the landowners in Cambs. are a heck of a lot more accommodating than those in Bucks-never had a woman offer to dress up as a French Maid and make us a cuppa before. Also I cannot believe that so many bunnies can sit around without being shot-for now Looking forwards to next visit already.
