ONE4THEPOT-gonna be difficult to not sound like I am lecturing you-not my intention in any way.Shotgun shooting is not easy by any means and while you may be chucking over 300 pellets skywards you also need remember that by the time you fire most birds have clocked you and have engaged full afterburners.Comparing Shotgun and Airgun shooting is pointless as they are as different as chalk and cheese (Asda "chosen by you" chedder not included). If its silent you want then you need to stand next to a .22 Rinmmie as it fires a sub round-not many Airguns are that quiet. As for everything heading for the hills upon unleashing a shotgun-this is often a blessing because said birds often see your decoy pattern and come and present a shot. After all this comes the fully moderated shotgun if noise really is a problem.Having said all this-a handfull of pigeons from a sitty tree or off the stubble with a nice Airgun are worth more than any 100 bird day with a shottie-In all my years shooting it has been the successful Airgun days that have remained most firm in my memory.

Could your new purchase have been tuned? Or does it smoke on firing indicating that some dipstick has put normal oil in it?-the resulting "dieseling" could be pushing up its power. You could swap springs and see if your original gun gains power-if not then its likely that you have nicked a piece off the new o ring when you fitted it or maybe you need look at your breach seal(often overlooked but vital).

Simple reason for me-I,ve owned many(too many!)Airguns including several from both these makers-Bin disappointed by a couple of HW,s(mainly the 95)but never been less than amazed at the quality and performance of the AA brand rifles(and I generally try to avoid anything made in this country!!).

ONE4THEPOT-do I get many days shooting? If I want I can shoot 7 days a week 52 weeks a year-I own a PCP (Logun MK2 Pro)several shotguns and a .22 Rimmie-used to own a 22-250 but never used it much so it had to go.I have free shooting over several thousand acres (approx 15k) in Bucks and smaller pockets dotted around the three counties.Much of my land is Rape so most shooting is pigeons but Rabbits and Squirrels along with corvids keep me busy.I dont shoot foxes unless asked to and never shoot peasants or ducks because I love seeing them around.

Staffyspen-you are assuming that said people are mature and responsible and I applaud your faith in mankind but its a fairly risky assumption.I sincerely hope that this potential group (what would a group of airgunners be called I wonder?)do find suitable land but ,in my experience,I feel that you may struggle.I suppose that by pooling your funds together you may have a greater fighting chance-please keep us updated as the theory interests me.

Time for the mods on here to remove the swearing filter and allow us all to vent our anger In the way we do best-I hope the guilty party rots in hell.

IMHO a group of Airgun shooters turning up on most landowners doorstep is about as far as they are going to get.Really dont want to rain on your parade fellow but I would imagine that you will have far more success as individuals. One of the many downsides I can see to this idea is that by asking others to join you-you then are all responsible if one member does something stupid.
-
Its hard to get decent bags with a shotgun most of the time so you need to be real good to do well with an Airgun.Getting birds to land and stay still long enough for you to get a shot off is an art in itself. It can be done but the very fact that pigeons generally dont like to feed close to hedgerows where they can get ambushed by foxes/cats e.t.c. makes it difficult to get within range. If I were you I would sit and watch where the birds are feeding and then look for a "sitty" tree nearby-pigeons like to land and have a recce before committing to feed/land and if you can get within range of the tree (you can loft a couple of deeks if they need any encouragement)then you can get some great sport.

Am I being stupid or does FPS not mean feet per second? Are you sure that the chrono is not set to give you the variation between shots?

Had some great times out with The Duncan myself-I know of many others that this gent has shared his time and shoots with.In all my years of shooting I dont think I have seen such a fine rifle shot or such a natural countryman with a shotgun. He eats everything that he shoots (within reason)and will go to extremes to ensure that no animal suffers unduly.Amazing to think that, for a chap who I have never heard swear,he should receive a ban for fake swearing and then having the audacity to question the decision. This forum has lost a fine member.
-
Makes me wonder how The Duncan can be banned from this site for a month for fake swearing yet the mods allow this display of cruelty to stay on the forum.Did somebody actually say that they later returned to finish off these wretched animals and consider that to be a saving grace? What would people say if i were to start using skeet guns and cartridges to bring down as many pigeons as possible and then wander around the field later on to finish them all off?

For all of you out there who have had to arrange extra child care today because of teacher training days let me just assure you that these extra days are essential to your childs education. Our teachers, for example, are all going to a church to learn meditation/relaxation techniques to help them cope with the stress involved in the teaching world-the course concludes with a 3 hour quiet period where each teacher has to sit alone in the grounds of the church and consider the path that their lives are taking. This course,by the way,is being led by a teacher who has just returned to work after 18 months sick leave suffering from a stress related condition.Just in case the sceptical amongst you still feel that these days are just a "jolly" let me tell you that last teacher training day consisted of an 8 hour course entitled "an introduction to modern dancing"-who can fail to see the benefits that our children are enjoying?

Am I right in thinking that Webley and BSA are owned by foreign companies? I,m sure that a lot of them are now made in Turkey-nuff said.Well done on your choice of the TX-engineered the way guns should be.

my old BSA meteore has lost a lot of power over the years.

Parts for this gun should be very easy to find-try T.W.Chambers gun spares if you have any problems.Fitting a spring/piston seal is also a simple job as long as you are mechanically competent and have the correct lubes. If its a later model it will most likely use an "o" ring seal which can be sourced from hundreds of places for pence if you can measure it-aftemermarket springs are also freely available if you want a slight tune up. -

Any experience/fancy having a go with shotguns? Might be able to get you a few days once the rape is cut-MK area. -
I would strongly recommend that you go for the "soft body parts" if your gun is performing poorly after having it serviced-the "soft body parts" of the guy that did the work would be a great place to aim.Get it chrono tested after servicing next time and do not attempt shots at live quarry unless the gun has the required power.Any decent airgun shop should chrono a gun that they have serviced as a matter of course to ensure that its performance is within the legal limit-what would have happened if the gun was returned to you producing 14ft/lbs and you had been stopped by the boys in blue? Name and shame them.......

Theres only one man who I would consider dealing with-Kevin at Staffsmetaldetectors. You will find his number on tinternet easily and If you ring him he will sort you out and not rip you off-he will talk to you for hours to make sure you get the best machine for you-even if he has,nt got one for sale.BTW-the Garret Ace 250 and the Fisher F2 are fantastic starter machines for the money-if you can pick up a used one of either on the bay you will most likely get your money back when you come to sell.As for equipment-start with a fibreglass handled mini-digger (about £10)-a small trowel-finds pouch and rechargeable batteries and charger (3000 maH Nimh again from the bay).

You will need 2 people to do this and expect any kind of return-one each side of the hedge otherwise ,as sure as eggs is eggs, the birds you put up will fly the other side of the hedge.I personally dont do this anymore because a large proportion of birds that are put out of hedgerows are sitting on eggs or worse.

Do you shoot from a wheelchair?
bruno22rf replied to bakerboy's topic in Sporting Opportunities (Paid)
Just a thought-you might need a bit more coverage at the front cos most chairs have shiny chrome wheels-I guess that a wheel cover fabricated from camo material would suffice. -
You wont go far wrong with clear pigeon-very hard hitting and ultra reliable shell-I,ve used thousands over the years without a single glitch.

Unqualified First Aid, etc: - Legal Question???
bruno22rf replied to Frenchieboy's topic in Off Topic
Im guessing that any such person would be more of a "go between" than hands on.I have helped elderly people out locally and sometimes electrical faults are little more than a plug been pulled out or a blown fuse-I also supplied and fitted a door bell for a lady for less than £15 when she had been quoted £76 by a local handyman. In many cases a caretaker type person can decide if a tradesman is required or not rather than paying a call out fee to have a sparky change a fuse.Elderly people, by nature, are vulnerable and I think that the housing people are on the right track with this idea. -
Airgun Rough Shooting West Midlands
bruno22rf replied to Ojun's topic in Shooting/Ferreting/Beating Wanted
Im with baikal boy 100% on this-did you Head Shot No1 actually state that you would still go out shooting without permission or did I read it wrong? For your information,Buddy,I love to share my shooting with others, especially novices, and on this basis I rarely shoot alone. I looked at your thread Ojun but you are a bit far away for me to help-its likely to be the same for the vast majority of shooters on here.Added to this is your unfortunate work situation-most farmers who have problems with vermin will be looking for someone who can respond within a day or even less.Another factor you may wish to consider is that many landowners still see Airguns as little more than toys and will offer shooting to someone who has a shotgun far more readily than with an Airgun.
