  1. The point is,Mark-70,a .22lr is a rifled tube with a bolt and a spring hanging off the back which is then plonked on top of a lump of wood-the accuracy and power are determined to a large extent by the ammo you feed it-the barrel is obviously very important but companies like BRNO have been using the same rifling machines for decades and can produce quality barrels at a bargain price.Airguns,on the other hand, are a different kettle of bananas altogether. To make an Airgun capable of consistency and accuracy over a long period of time takes good quality metals and modern, expensive, (i.e. CNC)type machinery. In real terms Airgun makers are small companies and costs involved in setting up production lines to make top range guns are astronomical-this is why some companies put out work to other companies-they can save a few quid on parts but at the cost of quality(in my opinion) unless the supplier is a specialist-i.e. Lother in the case of barrels-in which case you aint gonna save any pennies anyway.SMK guns are o.k. if thats what you want or need but top quality items they are not nor do they pretend to be.For all those who might suggest that these ****** puffguns are on a par with any quality maker (AA,HW,FWB e.t.c.)should answer one question honestly-If money was,nt a factor which gun would you buy?
  2. Have to be honest m8-bin it and cut your losses.Cheap spanish airguns are a pain in the rrr?s.Save your pennies and buy something decent-theres loads of great guns out there and its deffo a buyers market.
  3. I was the proud owner of the very first black/red 350lc in the country. These bikes were awesome in their day-great fun when you hit the power band and even more fun when a lot of 750,s could,nt catch you.
  4. Unless you are stoney broke I doubt that refinishing an average .22lr is worth the effort-you should be able to pick up a decent gun for £150 or even less.
  5. Its a buyers market i,m afraid so I would guess around £350 if you want to shift it fast-why not keep it and buy a used BRNO .22lr? Cheap as chips and indestructable as well as more accurate than most men will ever need-have a look around your local dealers and see what they have,
  6. Dont use flat heads on anything other than short range rats-dont use pointed pellets on anything with a heartbeat.Use a good quality pellet i.e. Crossman premier or AA field or similar and you wont go far wrong-if you are really concerned you can wash and lube them as well.I would hazard a guess that about 70% of pellets in a gun dealers are as much use as a one legged man at an rrrrr,s kicking party.
  7. Never found that a Mod does a whole heap of anything other than add weight on a springer but you pays your money.....
  8. I,ve shot with HW,s for more years than I care to mention but IMHO I think that they have been outclassed by the Air Arms rifles-this company never seem to put out a pup.TX200-Prosport and was,nt there a Pro-Elite break barrel?
  9. Firing one shot and then altering the scope is,in my opinion,a waste of time. You need something firm but soft to rest the gun on then fire at least 5 shots at a target before you start fiddling with your turrets.Make sure that your scope is correctly mounted and that the crosshairs are set dead vertical to the gun.If you have a moderator fitted then take it off just incase its not true to the barrel-if your zero changes once you replace it then you know there,s a problem.Take your time and get it right-the confidence this will give you is well worth it.
  10. My money would go on the Air Arms s410-bin a very long time since this company have sold a pup.
  11. Looking through the branches of the bushes in front of me I can see the birds from a good 3-400 yards away but as they get to about 100 yards off I start to slowly raise the gun-I normally have the stock resting on my foot.It seems to be this tiny movement that sends them scattering away but I have been shooting from this spot for many years and never encountered this problem before.Maybe i have shot all the stupid ones .
  12. Thanks for the replies guys-post was more of a grumble than a cry for help but its very nice to see people offering advice. When i say complete Realtree i mean complete-only uncovered area was around my eyes-as for background-i was standing with my back to a thick hedge of Hawthorn with 6-7 foot high bushes in front of me.Going shooting with The Duncan at the weekend-if the pigeons avoid me again i,m going to take up knitting.
  13. I,ve spent the last 6 months accumulating a complete Realtree outfit-and i mean everything from Balaclava to Boots and finally tried the lot out on pigeons last night. My other half found my appearance highly amusing, dressed from head to toe in Realtree, and suggested i might be a "thicket".Undaunted I ventured out into the woods in search of pigeons only to be shunned by them as well.I have never experienced birds flaring away from such a distance before and had to resort to standing behind a tree in order to get a bird near enough to take a pop-standing in dense hedgerow had them spotting me from a mile away. Now i,m depressed.
  14. I use the optimate on all my decoying batteries as well as on my m/cycle.
  15. Ours was done following a similar offer from,i think,Eastern Electricity about 5 years ago-makes a fair difference and defo worth having it done as its free!!!-Funny thing with ours was that the leccy company had the offer and paid for the work but we have gas central heating.
  16. Sending out letters is pretty much a waste of time.I get begging letters from charities every day displaying starving children or near extinct animals and they all go in the bin.If someone turned up at my door, however,it would be much harder to say no.Also you need to bear in mind that not everybody is a nice guy-I,ve taken people out on my permission only to find out later that they have approached the landowner with a view to paying to shoot on the land. One guy once was asked to leave when i came accross him about to shoot a woodpecker-at the other end of the scale i once found a guest i had positioned in a hide-whom i thought was having a real good day, shooting bumblebees in the brambles-not too mention the chap who brought along his labrador on a rabbit evening who shouted orders at it so loud that i got a headache.Best way is to bite the bullet and get out there-spend a week or so knocking on doors and chatting. On some farms i,ve had to get permission a bit at a time-i.e.Can i shoot the rabbits along the hedge in such a such field?-then over time the rest will normally fall into your lap.Once you have permission you need to build on it by dropping the landowners name everytime you visit somewhere new.It takes time and perseverance but is the only way.
  17. I thought that if the car was less than a year old the insurance would simply replace it-if the accident is recorded against the car surely you will lose even more off the value of the car than you do in its first year?
  18. Buy a Daystate on finance and its out of date before you make the first payment-must have more models than fleas on my dogs back-Ive read somewhere that people collect them? why? I shot a couple of squirrels the other day and then realised,to my horror, that my gun doesnt have an LCD readout-yet somehow i managed to carry on shooting.
  19. Just obtained a flapper with a 12v 1.2 Amp hr battery-what charger do i use?-ive got a motorcycle charger (12v) would that be o.k.?
  20. P.M. me what you thimk this weeks lottery numbers are gonna be-you might be on a lucky streak!!!.No doubt in my mind the S200 is the most under-rated PCP on the market.
  21. 39TDS-I.m no expert but i think that you could reduce the rabbit damage if you take their tractor away.
  22. I would recommend a Browning Medalist-28" barrell multi-choke sporter.Buy wisely and look after it then you wont lose any money when you come to sell it.
  23. Not really bothered if your diction was as you intended or not,Frenchieboy, but i agree 100% with your original post and in the way it was written.
  24. You are going to need a sitty tree and a couple of lofted decoys or a really hot day and a cattle/horse trough to getr them stationary long enough to shoot them.If you have a strong flight line and conditions allow it then a shotgun is the answer.
