  1. You're welcome. Sorry if it didn't print out too well. We've had trouble before on this site's system with tabulation - trying to layout ballistic tables is a nightmare. Cheers
  2. Babka, hi, With a bit of luck you WILL have a PM. I'm not very good with computors. When I tried to retrieve the piece from "my documents" the options I got from "insert special item" were meaningless to me and I hadn't a clue what else to do. Hopefully, son will sort it after work. Cheers Edit: OK sent. However, could not get the graph to transmit even though it was contained in the text but all it does really is graphically show what is verbally described. If you are interested, I could probably do it on a direct e-mail.
  3. Hi, Had the same problem, albeit 223. I unscrewed the adjusting cap and removed the insert and ground it down (the bottom or open end) a bit at a time until it got to a point where the cartridge was just under the minimum overall length specified (cylinder sized but not primed or charged). The important bit is tidy up the worked area as you would, say, the muzzle crown. Hope that helps. cheers
  4. Cushat, Hi, Not being funny, mate, have a genuine reason for asking: are you really interested in shotgun ballistics? Not heavy stuff, just enough to know what's what. Babka too perhaps. Cheers
  5. Hi, Could be any from a multitude of possibilities. However, note what wqd said about the shoulder pocket and to "open" this up try raising your elbow. Don't force it, just raise it to about horizontal and you can feel the difference this makes with your other hand. Good luck
  6. Hi, Good question, I'd like to know as well. David, where are you? Cheers
  7. Hi, Before getting the GUNSMITH to do anything, have you patterned the gun to find out how it's actually shooting? If, say, it's bored 1/2 by full and you want 1/4 by 3/4, nominally, you'd take 10 thous from each barrel. However, if the gun was already shooting......., nuff said, I'm sure you've got my drift. Cheers
  8. Mudpatten, hi, No, mate, that was a good post and you were right as Scrob confirmed. I just wanted to pick up on "brief". AYA still think that it's worthwhile producing their version and it makes you wonder what we'd be shooting if the British makers had adopted the new manufacturing technology as did AYA, Beretta, etc instead of ignoring it and consequently going to the wall. Everyone to their own which is as it should be but for pigeon shooting from a hide where range is not really a factor I just think that 25" barrels come into their own. Regards Phil
  9. Just to quantify mudpatten's "brief burst of popularity", out of all Churchill guns sold the percentage being XXV peaked between 1930 to 1934 at 93%. It did drop but in 1965 to 1969 it was still 61% and although the total number of guns sold dropped in the 1970s, the figure still remained well over 50%. Brief? Cheers
  10. Hi, Saw your PM before your last post. Have replied, sending another PM in view of your last post. Cheers
  11. Scrob, hi, Lots of good advice so far. As is the norm for AYA these models (if standard and not special order) were choked 1/4 by 1/2. I would suggest that you have them both checked to make sure that they haven't been "got at". If all is well, pick the one that you feel most comfortable with. AYAs in good condition will always sell if you ever wanted to move on. Good luck
  12. Phew! that's OK if it's all we have to worry about. I was thinking more about the fact that (in political terms) a general election is imminent. Recent news tells us that the Crown Prosecution Service cannot afford to action all the cases it should due to lack of funds (and possibly not afford to pay the staff salaries). Seeing little scroats not getting the punishment they deserve will not be a vote winner with the largely law abiding and arguably already dissatisfied general public. Neither will the fact that Home Office provisional figures reflect that the number of people killed or injured by a gun has doubled in the 10 years to 2008. Some "fast action" will be needed by the government if it wishes to stay in power. "Fast action"? We know it better under a different name; knee jerk having already suffered from it twice in recent years. We remain the easiest target; the people that the government knows have guns. Toka mentioned having to take a test. How long does anyone think that we can remain isolated from the majority of Europe in this respect? There, that's better; end of rant
  13. Mossy, hi, Saw your post and as I had to take mother in law to hospital close by, I popped in for a shufti. Nil stock! "Due in any day". May just pay to ring before you pop down. Also, I would double check the price. Cheers
  14. Hi, Know exactly what you mean, there's two just behind me on the gun cabinet. Not used now as I only shoot with a bi-pod. To be honest, they did not get much use as I couldn't make up my mind whether they were any good or not. Cheers
  15. Hi, It's probably fair to say that a good boxlock is better than a cheap sidelock. Sidelocks will give better trigger pulls and often they have the added benefit of intercepting sears.
  16. Hi, AYA used to boast that, "only abuse not use will wear out an AYA". Obviously you'd take that with a pinch of salt but there is an element of truth in it. I have a 1963 (ish) Matador and it's still sound. Really it's the condition that matters and not so much the age. Other to say check as many adverts as you can to compare, I cant help with the price. Good luck
  17. Jasper, Have you seen the weather forcast? Phil
  18. Yep, as your rifle is new and unless you've not already tweaked it, the trigger (assuming it's the same as my varmint 223 T3) is factory set at 3lbs (again assuming you haven't got the set trigger version). This is easily adjustable, just follow what it says in the hand-book. good luck
  19. Hi, Just a thought, and not as likely as the other answers, but could you have had any turbulent air between you and the target or even an up/down draught? Cheers
  20. Lancs Lad,hi, It does and thanks. Cheers Phil
  21. Hi, Thank you, Guys. Now, where did I put my wallet? Cheers Edit; Doorbell, had to leg it. Was going to add what Jesse already knows. We spend a fortune but the best decoy costs very little. Thermos flask. Hold flask in right hand, cap in left and balance full cup on left knee and BINGO.
  22. Easy, over 50 years of practice!
  23. It's like calling a self loading gun a semi automatic with all the negative connotations that has in the ears of Joe Public.
