    She said yes!

Ahh yes marriage, my heartiest congratulations. Enjoy the engagement, don't rush to make it formal, do have a period of living together, and please do be honest with each other. I hope you have a long and happy time together.
  2. Oh I suppose the only other thing that springs to mind... A lad I was at college with (over 15yrs ago) had them done one at a time (with 18 months between operations) because he couldn't afford to have them done in one go!!!
  3. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but.. weren't they known as Number 3 Garden Guns (9mm) and .22 shotguns were Number 1 Garden Guns. What gauge were Number 2 Garden Guns???
  4. Joe Simpson (the climber) describes the procedure in one of his books, "...the smell of burning tissue." etc etc Ugghh!! Seriously a colleague had it done and now can't drive at night due to vision problems
  5. Very sad, my thoughts are with the families.
  6. If you are not in a smoke control zone, then a wood burner stove. But you must be able to get your hands on the wood for nothing or it is a bit pointless. Second purchase needs to be a GOOD chainsaw (eg stihl, husqvarna, sachs domar etc) I put mine in 5 years ago (£100 s/hand) When I have no logs then i burn pallet wood
  7. A very Happy Winter Solstice to you all. (Good health and may your parsnips be as big as mine that I dug up this morning )
  8. I have both. .410 for squirrels and close rabbits 12g for open fields, rabbits & pigeons I like the .410 and learned to shoot using one 25 yrs ago, I love the mechanism of the b/a. Yes the 12g is perhaps more versatile. (Think how many hammers you have for doing different jobs :o )
  9. If the auction that I was at last Saturday is anything to go by I thought a lot of 'everyday' guns were going cheap. It is easy to get carried away! :yp: :(

    Snow Thread

Anybody know what the M62 is like regarding snow and also East Yorkshire? I have to journey that way later. Any info would be appreciated
  11. Ward & Sons, Central Gun Works, Birmingham Guns have been built in the Birmingham area since the 17th century. The industry grew and was organised into the 'Gun Quarter' during the 18th Century. A commemorative plaque in the Gun Quarter claims that around this time Birmingham was the "foremost arms producer in the world", the town's closest rival being London. from a google search
  12. [welsh]Ble ydych yn byw?[/welsh] Wales is a big country. Where in Wales are you?
  13. I am restoring a AYA o/u with a single trigger. Looking at the mechanism I think it could be an expensive option to convert to double trigger. In my opinion, get it working as it is a single trigger, see if it agrees with you. If not, then sell it on and purchase something else. (Far easier to sell a hardtop car and purchase a convertible, rather than convert the existing hardtop car?)
  14. Over the years I have been indulging in restoring different stocks (I started with my air rifles for practice, then moved onto some of my shotties) I have also been doing some minor repairs. Could anyone recommend a a good all-round book that covers restoration and simple repairs on shotguns? Many thanks

    Barter

They say that the old ways are the best ways, I make a lot of pickle/chutney/jam etc. (I only pay for vinegar, sugar, spices, the rest I grow) So far this year I have bartered... 3 tonnes of wood (cut to 9") and delivered - 4 large jars 1 bottle of scotch - 4 std jars 1 CAR TRAILER!! - 2 large jars 1 brace of pheasants - 2 std jars 1 Oil change (I provided filter and oil) - 2 std jars What do you trade with?? What has been your best trade??
  16. now if it was a bench grinder.........

  19. I served up chicken & squirrel pie at a bbq in 2008, it was so popular there was barely any left for me!!
  20. I bought my last Landy in 2003 1977 LWB diesel with o/d fwh etc I fitted a 2.5 n/a engine in 2007 I took a voluntary pay cut that meant that a 2nd vehicle became out of the question. Should I break it and sell on eBay? (overdrives fetch good money) or Should I ride it out and eventually put it back on the road?? (It has sat idle for 2 yrs)
  21. As a young kid I used to pick up the odd used cartridge and it ended up on the window sill in my bedroom. But more than 50 just left in a heap!!!! The plastic shell DOES NOT DECOMPOSE. I started shooting in 1984 and have never left an empty shotgun cartridge on the ground anywhere in the UK
  22. I took some friends for a walk with me on Sunday across a local moorland, I was embarrassed to find 50+ used cartridges, dumped by a hedgerow. I felt embarrassed because my friends know I am a shooter/countryman and I found it hard to explain away non-biodegradable litter close to a pathway. I picked them all up (and may use them to make a clock with the brass ends in place of the numbers) but there is NO EXCUSE to leave any kind of litter behind
  23. Mmmm.. I looked at a W&S 9mm at alocal RFD In some ways I wish I had bought it. It was the percieved cost of cartridges that put me off. But £7-8 for 50 seems ok. Especially as I think I paid £12 for 50 .38 blanks
  24. Hi, I am about to replace a broken ejector trip rod on my AYA Yeoman o/u Is it a straight forward job? Is any fine tuning needed with a file on the ends? Any advice gratefully recieved. Cheers
