  1. Your incredulity shines through. I personally have never managed to shoot 500 in a session, but I know it is completely possible. I have shot bags of 100+ on well over 100 occasions, with my biggest being just short of 400. Big bags may not be for everyone, but when I am out I generally prefer to have warm barrels.
  2. The gentleman in question (Mr Poolman) shot a bag (with a friend) of almost 1000 in a day. It was all recorded, too. The bloke regularly shoots bags of 300+ and has shot 500+ on several occasions. It really annoys me that some people won't accept other people's success.
  3. Ok then. I have been fowling for around 28 years. I have already mentioned that there are many circumstances where a dog is not required where I shoot. This is obviously not the case if I shoot the tide. I own a pretty decent dog, and last week I had successive flights of 10 birds and 11 birds. I ended up picking everything. This would not have been possible without a dog, and I wouldn't have shot where I did without one. I really don't see where antis come into any of this.
  4. Around 28 years go I first set foot on the wash with a gun.
  5. The difference is, we were shooting on flooded washes. I wouldn't necessarily expect anyone to be out there without a dog. Saying that, there is a chap that nips round on a kayak on the washes and collects birds. There is no rule in the FWA that members are required to have a dog, nor should there be. As said, there are many circumstances where a dog isn't necessarily needed. What is your point?
  6. I would always go where I expect to get the best chance of a shot. I wouldn't normally sit at the sea wall, but in thick fog I have had some success.
  7. Yep. Seawall is a good spot in thick fog.
  8. Mate. You have had a bit of good advice, but don't listen to most of the **** spouted here. You don't NEED a dog, though it is a good idea. You can most certainly go out in the fog, safely. Keep doing as you're doing and learn it bit by bit.
  9. Really? I don't care how long you shot on the wash - that is frankly rubbish! Plenty of Fowlers safely get right out on the edge of the wash in thick fog. I was out there on Sunday in extremely thick fog. No problem whatsoever!
  10. I think you're talking absolute rubbish. Even with a dog you can't guarantee picking all birds. I don't see it as irresponsible to go fowling without a dog. In many circumstances it shouldn't be an issue.
  11. There wouldn't be a creek like that there at low tide. Why? There are numerous fowling spots where it would be possible to pick birds without a dog.
  12. I would imagine he wouldn't be too undergunned with steel 7.5s at that range.
  13. Why would anyone use a cartridge that they had found on the marsh? Still, I doubt there would be any problem firing it.
  14. I see people still believe all the **** they read regarding steel shot and chokes!
  15. All good stuff. I am surprised these haven't gone!
  16. Maybe it was a little harsh. However, I can't think of another situation where the prices aren't firmly laid out and agreed.
  17. What do you expect? Claygame are absolutely hopeless!!
  18. I have no sympathy for anyone that doesn't sort prices out beforehand. Sorry, but that is common sense.
  19. Drop in temperature? It was over 15 degrees c today. The temperature will have no bearing on whether pigeons will feed on rape.
  20. It was good to meet you. Shame you didn't connect with a goose. Hopefully this is the start of a long wildfowling adventure for you.
  21. It isn't a fact that there are few pigeons about. I have had personal issues to deal with lately, so my mind has not been on pigeon shooting. I reckon I could have had some good bags in the last month or so, as I have seen plenty of birds around.
  22. I was using a Jebs .675 for a bit, but have gone for a full in the A350 for the time being. I still use a .705 Terror in the 10.
