  1. Wild Justice has publicised the fact that it has instructed its solicitors to write to the the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish organisations that issue their General Licences. I see this as the ‘cheap’ way of getting similar results as achieved in England without moving to Judicial Review. Consequently I have sent this to my MP and AM: ‘I hope you are aware of repercussions following the proposed action taken by Wild Justice (Chris Packham and others) against Natural England challenging the legality of the English General Licences. The revocation of the English GLs does not impact us in Wales directly. I note, however, that solicitors acting for Wild Justice have now written to Natural Resources Wales pointing out the outcome of their action against Natural England. Could I ask you to contact both NRW and Lesley Griffiths AM, Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs within the Welsh Government to seek their urgent confirmation that the Welsh General Licence will pass scrutiny. If they cannot give that assurance I would ask that you press them to address deficiencies expeditiously.’ Might be worth trying to get ahead of the game by as many as possible contacting our local MPs, NI, Scottish and Welsh Assembly and Parliament members. It cannot do any harm!
  2. I hope you covered the cab driver’s costs for returning the phone. It’s the least you might have done.
  3. ‘The Metropolitan Police said officers stopped the artist for not displaying car insurance, and that the search was conducted "correctly".’ From the BBC story.
  4. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-44672893 This BBC story states a man driving a car was stopped by the Met for not displaying car insurance. I hadn’t realised we had to display evidence of insurance. Do we?
  5. Thank you Old Boggy. In light of the information from him I’m withdrawing the gun from sale so I can confirm the model.

  9. Are you saying that, in the UK, you have a pistol conditioned to shoot deer and boar??? Humane dispatch? A few more details might be useful.
  10. because some accents can be offensive. Are you saying that your HR team are saying that all people from an entire area are causing offence by the way they speak?

  14. I was a novice to stalking, I'd been out a few times and was constantly learning as I went but the DSC 1 made me sit up and realise I had far more to learn. Recognition, deer diseases and parasites were the harder areas for me, particularly recognising deer from different angles. The manual was very comprehensive but I also read articles in other publication and on the web. There are some good images there. I enjoyed using the old grey matter after many years too. I treat passing the DSC1 like passing the driving test; the real learning is just beginning. I don't think I've been out and not learned something new.
  15. Thanks for the replies. My FAC is open but I think I'll just use one form for my nearest land which covers all my rifles but one, a 7mm - 08, which I tend to use for larger deer on my second area and several other areas I pay to stalk over.
  16. I'm about to apply for the renewal of my FAC with Dyfed Powys. As an addition to the usual forms, Dyfed ask, but do not insist, that an addional form is completed for each piece of land over which I shoot, as I have one area which I can shoot all but deer and another where I stalk. It says on the form that it's not mandatory but that it may help speed up the process (which they say takes 12 to 15 weeks anyway). It's not a complicated document, just time consuming for others, but I'm not inclined to fill out forms just for the sake of it as I tend to think we jump through enough hoops as it is, but I wondered what others in the area do. Has it held up the process? Any comments would be welcome.

As a retired civil servant, can I suggest that it's probably better to write to your MP and ask him/her to send your letter to the Minister. Long winded maybe but in my day a Minister's office receiving a letter from a member of the public would simply reply along the lines of ''I've been asked by the Minister to ...' without the Minister seeing any letter. The office can get dozens a day to deal with. However, one from an MP has to be seen by the Minister and the Minister will sign the reply. The reply would probably include a phrase saying that someone from the Minister's staff has spoken with which ever department the issue was about. This generally gets better results. Good luck!
  18. Mel, I had a couple of operations on my scrotum a few years ago and rather than a general I was given a spinal anaesthetic. It works by removing all feeling below the waist and can be used for pretty much any procedure below the waist. Might be worth asking whether it could be used for you.
