  4. Hi all Have just received my birthday present from myself. As promised i have just taken delivery of a Sightron 8x32x56 scope complete with sunshade & cap from Aim field sports. I would just like to say that the service i received from John was absolutely first class. I was phoned as soon as it arrived in the shop, was given a delivery date followed by 2 txt messages informing me of the delivery company and the drivers name and delivery time within the hour (hows that for service). Now cant wait to get it all set up. Many thanks John and all at Aim field sports top top service
  5. Hi all. I am on the lookout for a Rangefinder and have come across a Bushnell yardage pro scout 1000 reduced from £410 to £200 at Uttings Has anybody got one, and how good are they at ranging small objects say up to 3 to 400 yds. Many thanks in advance for any feedback. Cheers Smokey
  6. Ht Si-bore What do you think of the Sightron as i am seriously thinking of buying one next week, i'm looking at the 8x32x56 though cheers Smokey
  7. `My golly I know i'm a bit green when it comes to optics etc, but it sure makes very interesting reading, the comments from you chaps that are in the know. There is bound to be conflicting opinions as we all like different things in life. But as a mere novice in the field i can assure you all that lots of different views / opinions have been a great help to me. Looking in from the outside i am sure no mailce was meant from anybody, and i would like to say that you all have been a great help to me. many thanks Smokey
  8. Many thanks, Kent / Hunter-Zero did try to e-mail direct but came up with pop3 which stuffed me, so until i know what pop3 is i'm stuck can either of you help as you are better PC educated than i am. cheers Smokey
  9. Hi all I have lost my up & down turret disc on my Schmidt & Bender 8x56 30mm scope, its only the small disc like piece that has the up & down numbers on that is under the turret cap. Accuacy international and York guns have told me that there is no s&b uk importers at the moment. Just wondered if anyone has got any ideas where i could get one from. Any suggestions would be much appreciated many thanks Smokey
  10. Hi Barney 66 I am thinking of the same thing, but like you say its what to get, in the May edition of Sporting Rifle they did a review on trail cams and the Tasco 5 mp night vision camera got a very good review and at £129 95p from York Guns not a bad price considering what you can pay, maybe worth a look on there website. Good luck with what you decide to get Smokey
  11. Hi all, Do you have to pay top dollar to get an half decent rangefinder or are there some good ones that range small objects at a decent range say 4 /500 yds any feedback would be really appreciated cheers Smokey
  12. Hi all never been to a rifle range before, so if i can make it, do i need to bring my firearms certificate, is there somewhere on site where you can get something to eat. many thanks Smokey
  13. cracking mod got one on my 243 very quiet, paid over £300 for mine bargain for someone, good luck with the sale
  14. Hi all, Sorry but i need some more opinions. My foxing buddy has brought himself a Sightron S111 10x50x60 and reckons they are the bees knees and i ought to get one. He has had some quality scopes before and sold his Zeiss and replaced it with the Sightron and reckons for the price compared the other quality scopes they take some beating. I decided to give Aim fieldsports the uk sightron importer a ring and found them to be very helpful and suggested i have a look at the 6x24x50 which would do anything i wanted from low light to long range no problem. I have a 8x56 schmidt & bender on my rifle at the moment which is a cracking scope but without the mag. Anyway to get to the point, i had almost made up my mind to go for the Sightron 6x24x50 when i told my mate he said come over, bring your rifle and i'll show you something. Off we go,set up couple of 1 pint plastic milk bottles 2 x small plastic lucosade bottles and a couple of small vitamin pill bottles at just over 200 to 325yards set with the rangefinder. Well, i could see them all clear enough through my scope, then he set his up on 24x and said have a look at that, he then cranked it up to 30x and said what do you reckon bloody amazing was my answer. He then crancked it up to 40x i adjusted the paralex, unbelievable it hard to explain as i felth that i could hit a small target on 24 or 32 power but on 40 and above i felt that if you dialled it in you could not just hit the target you could place the bullet where you wanted to My mate said thats the difference if you have got IT you can use it if you want to. Just to let you know i hit 3 from 6 shots with his rifle with the pint bottles looking like 4 pinters thate the difference hev said to which he has got a point. hisrifle is a accuacy international with a Jewel trigger and a precision barrel etc, cost a bloody fortune i know that but its a cracking set up sorry for waffling on but i'm confused .com and i want to make the right decision. Your opinions are greatly appreciated many thanks Smokey
  15. No contest really if you said Beretta or Browning then then the opinions might be a bit closer, but as you asked Beretta all day long, good luck with whatever you choose Smokey
  16. Sorry Fisheruk, comment meant for scolopax, agree with you 100%
  17. If you dont know why maybe you are on the wrong forum
  18. Hi Paul T, I too was thinking of getting some extra chokes and a friend of mine had brought some from Mandel, i had a look at them and they looked good. I e-mailed Mandel and also spoke to a really nice chap on the phone (i can't think of his name) but he did say that the ported extended chokes are a pig too clean after use which he needn't have done. Also i did get someone from the forum who said they did have a bad experience with Mandel but i did order some, 6 chokes in a nice case for £115 delivered, alot cheaper than Teague / Brierly but its a catch 22 situation really its what you can afford. If i had the money yes i would probably go for Teague, like i used to shoot Lanbers etc now i shoot a Browning, but i have got to say i am very happy with my Mandel chokes and yes they are a pig to clean (get very black/dirty through the port holes, but it dosn't bother me as i rarely go clay shooting. The service i got from Mandel was honest information and excellent delivery, ordered thursday afternoon, delivered saturday morning. I would definately use Mandel again, but you will will get plenty of good advice from the forum + try the wanted section, jusk make sure they will fit your gun as i didn't know i had to get invector not invector + for mine. If i was a clay shooter i would probably go for the non ported extended chokes. Sorry for going on a bit (bad habit of mine)and iv'e looked to see if i still had Mandels phone number but haven't so take your time in what you choose and good luck Smokey
  19. al4x Always a pleasure to read your replies, you really do seem to talk alot of sence and and pass on a lot of good advice. Smokey
  20. Agree Archie, Matt, dead before you squeeze the trigger, been there done that, still cant work it out as like you say think you have done everything right put it down as breeding stock and think of all them cracking shots you have pulled off in the past, Smokey
  21. Just to say thanks for your reply re fox cubs al4x cheers Smokey
  22. Many thanks Cocker3 havn't actually been near the set have been sitting directly across the field opposite the set behind the hedge. i cover the truck over with nets then sit on the spare wheel and shoot over the roof of the motor. surprising how comfortable it is sitting there for a few hours. going to have another sit tomorrow night then going to have a go early morning if no luck looks like will like you say take out the cubs and try the adults with the lamp cheers for all replies Smokey
  23. Hi Cocker3, well done that man, just to ask a bit of advice i have just found a fox set and sat out on fri and saturday night from 7-30 pm to 11-30 & 7-30 till 12-30 on saturday using day and night vision. Watched an incredible 9 cubs (never seen that many before) but no adults turned up at all. Going to have another look in the next day or two weather permitting but getting a bit worried as grass and crops seem to be growing before your eyes. Do i take the cubs out while i have got the chance as i cannot believe i havn't seen an adult with all them hungry mouths to feed, another thing is the cubs are starting to wander quite away from the set, so i'm a bit worried about being able to pick them all off. The one thing i do need to try is to get down there first thing but at the moment work getting in the way. If anybody got on suggestions be much appreciated cheers Smokey
