  1. Once had an ex greyhound which was the fastest thing I have ever seen, just incredible! It was also possibly the most stupidest animal I have ever owned, maybe joint first with an idiot of a Dales pony I once had. Had a small Saluki cross which would catch hares for fun despite only being small. Would never ever chase anything she didn't think she could catch, if the rabbit had a chance of making it to the burrow she wouldn't chase it. She caught dozens of them and would often sit for a couple of hours watching and waiting for them to get far enough from the burrow. I think she was the cleverest dog I have ever known, and incredibly loyal too. I could call her when she was running and she'd turn and come straight to me. I miss Sally a great deal. Haven't had a dog for some years now though.
  2. I thought you were going to say they turned out to be seagulls when you got there.
  3. They will be ok. You can spray grass with it and still feed with it, same with grain too.
  4. Mine keeps for months without any issues.
  5. It was 3:35pm, I was stood outside the museum buildings. It flew pretty much along the runway.
  6. Minelabs are indeed very good detectors, they are also too heavy and have an appalling recovery speed. Recovery speed refers to how soon after discriminating out iron they get back to looking for good stuff. On this score they are pretty terrible, can be a serious issue on trashy sites. I had an Explorer SE, awesome machine but the design is very out of balance and killed my arm in no time. (yesterday I unloaded a 15 ton wagon of straw by hand so I am no wimp) Teknetics T2 is a better bet IMO, but will cost circa £500 second hand. Battery life on them is phenomenal. Currently have a Goldmaxx Power myself. Only got it last week so not a great deal of experience with it yet. Seems pretty good and not so different from either of the above but no screen readout. Recognising the tones is easy enough so screen isn't essential. Non of these are beginner machines though, which the OP asked about. No reason you can't start off with one of these though, but you will have to realise you are jumping in at the deep end and there is a big learning curve involved. (and a big bill!)
  7. Bought a pair on the strength of this post. They are good but if the Swarovski ones are no better I would be p'ed off.
  8. Garret Ace 250. Not used one myself but it seems to be the starter machine of choice. A good machine for not too much money, resale value is very good too. Heard of a second hand one making £50 more than a new one on the bay recently. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get a deal to include a pro-pointer too, very helpful in actually locating your finds, not desperately needed but do help. I use a £10 mini spade from Toolstation and a nail pouch to stick stuff in as I find it (£5 from Toolstation). Not many good deals on second hand stuff lately as demand is very high due to various buried treasure progs on tv.
  9. I'm thinking to go to RAF Cosford to see it, any idea what sort of time it will be there? I'm supposed to be at a wedding do :o
  10. Good luck to him. Please pass on my very best wishes.
  11. Lying about it is wrong. I suspect it's the minister that is lying but I have had policemen lie about what I have said before now. Plebs!
  12. A fortnight ago I went to the Sunshine Coast in Australia for a weekend. Spent my time stood barefoot in the breakers catching exotic looking fish while getting my feet sunburnt. This weekend I was on Colwyn Bay prom. Anyone that can compare the two is nuts!
  13. I put some in my Capri once, it ran **** for about 12 months. If a pinto can't cope with it I doubt a modern engine can.
  14. Don't really understand the question. Do you mean you have not been fishing already? Weird!
  15. It is a pain aint it! Mine has been rubbish since that day everyone's went wrong. For which they seem to think knocking £1.50 off my bill will put right. They can get stuffed!

So, do I upgrade or not? I do use maps on my 4s, not for life and death situations but I would be a bit miffed if I couldn't use it any more. Or does a link to Google maps via safari do the same thing. "My measure" is a good app, uses Google maps AFAIK. I like it anyway.
  17. Just checking, you folks did know my earlier posts were sarcastic. Right? There are some pretty blonde comments re: electric.
  18. A bit naughty that they don't warn you a 12 volt battery on a diesel car can cause a massive energy surge to a 12 volt petrol car. How many more volts is the diesel one then, roughly?
  19. Do all you people that are now clamouring for the police to be routinely armed (against their will by all accounts), really want to be in a situation where every routine burglary report is approached with guns drawn? I suspect a lot of folk will get hurt if that were the case. These two poor women weren't expecting what they were met with. Armed or not their fate would unlikely to be changed. May they both rest in peace and my deepest condolences to all that knew them. A very sad day.
  20. Foxes and rabbits, but never a rat up a tree. Not surprised though.
