Condition mainly I'd say, is it rust free, are the metal parts in good condition and the finish not wearing through? Is the wood dent and scratch free and in good condition? Has it been serviced and if so how long ago? Does it shoot straight? If possible get it chrono'd, is it making the right sort of power (around 11.5ft/lb)? After that I'd be looking at what accessories you can work into the deal. Cost wise, I suppose around £300 for the gun alone in good condition, maybe £100 more with scope, sling/bipod and pump, a bit more again if it comes with dive bottle and filling kit. £200 or less for a tatty gun.

Is it this one? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19399135

If your thoughts put another nail in the coffin of shooting, is it really worth it?

Getting a dog from a rescue centre - would you?

My lab thinks she's my best mate, little blighter won't let me out of her sight if she can avoid it! -
Doesn't really matter Pete, we may take it as tongue in cheek but, once you put it in writing on a public board then it's in the public domain and therfore prime to be quoted by LACS or similar. Might want to consider that before posting.

Yeah, I've heard that one too but have never yet come across anyone who has damaged their gun using WD40. I use it as a water dispersant which is what it's designed for, and bore cleaner for which it works well. I've never had any issues but I do wipe it all down and then wipe over with 3-in1 as well as doing a final pull through with gun oil, when that runs out it will be 3-in-1 in the barrel as well. I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that all of the expensive cleaners are an unnecessary expense.

I wouldn't do that fella, you are as entitled to your opinion as the next man. Maybe think on a little bit about how you word things though. I can see where you're coming from even if I don't agree with it and it's produced some interesting posts which is surely what forums are all about. Oh, just make sure you put your fire proof, extra thick skin on if you're feeling controversial! -
He'll still need a stirrup pump so another 50 quid off ebay, would be my choice though.

I thought somebody had put this in the wrong section and it was supposed to be in The Playpen, I am astounded that it's not. 7 million cat owners are not going to allow their precious Percy to be muzzled or anything else!
-
You're wrong, but just out of interest, what should we be measuring? The measure is of muzzle energy, and that legally is not allowed to be over 12ft/lb, that's the law. If they (the police) chrono your gun with your super pellet at 20ft/lb then they can do you for it, simpla as that.

Have you seen much about on the harbours yet? I was in Chi doing some dog training a couple of weeks back and there was very little about.

If that was the case I'd have ended up with a very energetic young Staffie, thankfully not, my preference. My dog was a cold, wet, smelly, lonely and disinterested puppy that sat in a corner not really interested in anything or anyone, he wasn't thriving being on his own at that age. the transformation when we got him home was swift and wonderful to watch. If I'd let the dog choose me he'd not have even been on the starting list. Fortunately, I knew what i wanted nad he was very close to that. -

I had no idea what you were on about so just Googled it...almost unbelievable! Someone will have paid for that decision with their job one hopes, anyway, back on track, fortunately my RSPCA rescue centre dog was better treated and has turned out an absolute cracker of a mutt. -
You can use 70mm for ducks for sure, I use Gamebores Super Steels in shot size 3. I did get some Heavishot from Just Cartridges for Geese last year but can't remeber what they were, will edit when I do remember. Ok, tell a lie, it was Tungsten Matrix in shot size 1. http://gamebore.com/...tungsten-matrix Not cheap though at about £3.00 a cart!

Following this comment from another thread, 'And dont get a dog from a rescue center.in my opinion they should all be closed and the animals should be put down and not rehomed.' It got me wondering, how many people have rehomed a dog with particularly good or bad results? Would you recommend it, and if so why or not? Would you take on a gundog that had been pre-owned and once again, why or why not? I should declare that I am in the pro rehoming camp, but, I'd only really consider a young dog. My Ridgeback X was 16 weeks old when we got him from the RSPCA so hadn't really had time to learn any really bad habits.

Want a gun dog but work away 2 weeks out of 5
-Mongrel- replied to claydog's topic in Dogs and Dog Training
Wasn't critiscising you for keeping two dogs for mutual company, I did that myself with good results, only one is a gundog, the other just a pet. It was the 'And dont get a dog from a rescue center.in my opinion they should all be closed and the animals should be put down and not rehomed.' that I can't agree with, but maybe I'll start a new thread to discuss that rather than derail this one. -
I believe it's normally worn sears? Maybe not visible but maybe a gunsmith should take a look?

Interesting comment from Albert888 which I can't agree with, but to stay on topic... I think it's more of a problem leaving a puppy on it's own for 8 hours, it's not something that would happen normally and IME they don't do well for it. You could consider a part trained dog. It will be older so more resilient, on it's way to being trained but you will still be able to mould and finesse it to your needs. Will cost more initially of course. -
You have PM

There are also a few that can write a grammatically correct sentence that is easily read, and shoot a bit as well. Live and let live eh?

I am serously considering removing my bead. I find it too easy to look at the bead not the target!
-
Indeed you can, even though 'Kent' is I believe in Lancashire somewhere. You can shoot Sundays in Sussex too, but I won't bother with the first weekend, there will be no birds about, probably be more wildfowlers than wildfowl to be honest! I will have a look around Chichester Harbour with shotgun to hand at some point in the first week even if just for dog training purposes!

Which surely kinda makes it a bit pointless arguing about who're good or not? You like May, I think he's overrated, you appear to be a fan of The Who, I can't think of a track of theirs I like, Led Zep had some good tracks, AC/DC once again not for me. I do like Nirvana, Metallica, Guns' n' Roses amongst others. Doesn't follow that either list are good or bad, just tastes.

Strip it and wipe it down with a WD40 soaked cloth, metal bits into the airing cupboard for couple of hours then out and a pull through /wipe over with a gun oil impregnated cloth. I then leave it stripped and put it into the cabinet for a day before reassembling. My cabinet is within the house and doesn't suffer from damp or condensation issues though.
