  1. I have the raw tomato thing also..It brings on eczema on the skin of my shins' the only place on my body that it effects. I also get an outbreak with certain brands of Ketchup and Hp brown sauce is one of the worst. Thing is i love tomato;s and cant have a sausage sandwich without Hp sauce' so often just suffer the concequence's. No probs with oysters though. A splash of tabasco and a squeeze of lemon and accompanied with a Glass of the black stuff is hard to beat.
  2. If i were you' Id just buy one decoy and dress "Black tie" and sit out in the middle of the field' they'l come no problem. Only joking' sorry for being a smart ***. Half a Dozen decoys may be all you need, If the geese have not been shot up to much. If they are coming to the field from the reservoir on a regular basis like you say' then there is no reason why 6 decoys wont do. They will be coming regardless' so want you want to do is get them where you will be hidden. Place your 6 decoys keeping them well apart' 3 or 4 yards should do. A call would be a good aid and im pretty sure they will come for a look see. And remember to take your shot when they are in range' For me thats what decoying is about' getting the birds into range for a shot. What you see in them American Dvd's for me is pretty stupid. Loaded up with the heaviest shot possible and then punching holes in geese 5 to 10 yards up. Take your shot when they present themselves and if you get a couple then you can add them to your spread. There are other options if you have the time to make some silhouettes or even flat oval shape cut outs painted black and white to add to your half dozen. You mention good flightlines' well if you get yourself under them' you may not even need decoys. Good luck.
  3. Just seeing your reply Ollie. Thanks' I really must get a mincer of some description' sooner rather than later.
  4. Cheers Ollie' yeah im pretty happy with the Camera although it has yet to be tested in the Wind and rain. Roost shooting offers very testing targets' but sure thats what we want. Thanks for your comments and pointers regarding the Camera.
  5. Thank you fella. When I bought the Beretta new' It was my intention to use it for everything' but i then deemed it too Nice of a Gun for my type of Shooting and got into Clays for a short period.i have tried to sell it on a few occasions but couldnt get what i wanted for it' despite being ten years old it was like new and I wasnt giving it away for nothing. You should be able to pick up a good 2nd hand Beretta at a reasonable price. They are built to last and parts are readily available should you need them. It would be money well spent' if you really want one. Thanks again for your comments.
  6. Thank you Marsh man. Indeed i have often read about the proposed season thing over in the UK mainland in the Shooting press and the arguments for and against it. Going by the pictures on here and indeed in the Shooting mags' The wood pigeon seems to be continuing to be a real pest bird in the UK and needs to be Controlled. I think the Moral argument of the pigeons getting shot in their main breeding season and young left to die in the nests is the one thing that would bother me somewhat.Of course i am aware that they nest at different times throughout the year and late summer is the time they are doing most damage' so as long as their numbers are still at pest proportions' they need dealt with. Pigeons numbers over here seem to change yearly. Some years they are good numbers about and other years they can be very Scarce' but very rarely would you ever see a field "Blue" with pigeons as is often the case in some parts of the UK. If there is year when there are plenty about' then The magnets will be out in Force despite the bird having a Season. It is what is classed as a "Grey area" when it comes to the legality of it all' but despite the bird having a Season i have yet to hear of any case against anyone shooting over Stubble fields. Personally I much prefer Roost shooting them in the winter months or a few taking whilst out Rough Shooting. I have fond memories of myself and friend about 25yrs ago as young teenagers Roost shooting taking turns with my fathers old single barrel and filling Sack fulls "literally" of pigeons. Apart from Wildfowling of cousre' there are not many better ways of passing a winters evening in my eyes. Thank you again for your kind comments.
  7. I reckon i should get some footage later in the year ' whilst Roost shooting pigeons. We actually have a season over here for pigeons that runs from 1st Nov to the end of January as we have nowhere near the amount of pigeons that you get in the UK. We can protect standing Crop if need be. I was scaring both crows and pigeons on the fields whilst they were Standing and went through a few boxes of cartridges doing so' So I justify to myself taking a few pigeons for the pot over the stubbles but never shoot any big bags. It doesnt stop a lot of people from taking big bags on the stubbles despite being nowhere to be seen when the pigeons are actually damaging crops. Combine Chasers 'i believe they are termed. Anyhow Thank you for your comment. Cheers Voodoo' I also enjoyed your latest footage.
  8. Thank you both for your comments Lads' its much appreciated.
  9. Yes Al, that is the Fabarm. Them two extended Chokes are the steel proof ones and they are half choke' however Im lead to believe after someone who had the same Gun measured them and they are nearer to 3 quarter. Its my main Gun for Wildfowling and after a lot of trial and error them two chokes only come out When cleaning the gun. I have used it in the past for pigeons and used more open chokes to good effect. I bought the two Guns new around the same time' I suppose ten yrs ago or so and only used the Beretta for occasional clay shooting' up until a couple of yrs back' when i decided that there wasnt much point of it being idle in the Gun cabinet and I now use it as my Rough shooting gun and pigeons as opposed to the SxS . Of the two guns which both have 30 inch tubes' i think i shoot better wit the fabarm' i think it is due to the fact it is heavier and has a shorter Stock which seems to suit my short arms. The Berreta is also a lovely gun to shoot though. Thanks for your comments and interest.
  10. Thank you all Gentlemen for your Nice comments. I am pretty happy with the Camera considering it was a Trial Run so to speak. Thanks again.
  11. Well tried out the Gopro last Saturday. i was expecting a good mixed Day with the crows and pigeons as there had been a lot of activity on the proposed Fields. It did not go to plan' as The pigeons would not play ball and refused to decoy. There was a peregrine Falcon hunting the area as I seen him twice in the day and a few Buzzards about. I started off shooting poorly' i think concious of the camera' but it didnt matter much as i was shooting and the camera was not actually recording when I thought it was. Anyhow i got a little piece footage and i would like to thank Ollie,Big Al,Redditch and Voodoo for there advice and help.Cheers lads And not forgetting my Missus' for putting it all together as I am a computer Numpty.
  12. Looks excellent and pretty simple. Could just imagine what a Top restuarant would charge for that Starter. I will for sure be giving this a go,Although not as rare and I'l be using Clonakilty Black pudding.
  13. Not great to be honest. Was out yesterday and between getting the van bogged, Not copping on that you actually have to keep the camera on at all times' as i thought it was set up to record as soon as it switched on' therefore shooting and the camera was not actually recording when I thought it was. Finally worked it out' but was shooting **** and the pigeons where not decoying and it was mostly all crows. Got some footage but not a lot, Sett a new hide up last night with the intention of going out to try and get some more footage today' but it has been raining all day here' so never ventured out. Had a mixed bag of Carrion's,hooded, rooks and jackdaws and one pigeon. The pigeons seem to be starting to flock up and as i have no Whirly bird' they where flying high and going elsewhere. Keep the vids coming.
  14. Looks like you both had a great days Fun' Your friend certainly seemed to be enjoying himself. Lovely looking piece of country and beautiful Sunset as well. Thanks for sharing.
  15. Ah stubbling mallard in September. I have found that there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to dawn and dusk flighting in September,With the fowl flighting at all hours of the day. I have a photo in my Album of hundreds of Mallard pouring into a stubble field on a September afternoon. Same with geese' well greys at any rate. It could be well after 10am before they flight out to the fields and will return to roost in the afternoon for a drink and a splash about and will return back to the fields later in the day again. When the days get shorter' the dawn and dusk flights tend to be more predictable with the ducks coming in from the fields early morning and the geese flight out early. With the calmer weather and longer days' there dont seem to be the same urgency about them compared to later in the year. Well done on your First "penelope" of the season.
  16. Nice Job ollie,Looks very tasty. Had to go back a few times when you mentioned the Chilli' as i couldnt work out what the two big red objects where' until I realized it was the actual pattern on the Chopping board What brand is the Electric mincer and can i ask how much it costs..? Looks a good sturdy Job.Was thinking about a manual one that clips onto the table' but that machine looks the business.
  17. Sure Didnt I say you were the die hard rugby Man I dont mind Watching a bit of egg chasing' but im a Shooting Man first and foremost and rugby is a little further down the list of things of importance. Seen the lads boarding the plane tonight on the Newes and I hope they do well' but hopefully 2.30 Saturday Will find me in a Hide having some Fun. But you are right of course, Come on you Men in Green.. Ps My headstrap came today at last . Likewise looking forward to Ollie's upcomimg footage.
  18. Woudnt say I am getting overly excited,But certainly looking forward too watching some of the games. Im not a die hard rugby fan "unlike Big Al" but love the 6 nations. Still hoping we can get a good run going in the World cup despite a couple of poor enough results in the warm ups. Like most' I think them men in black that make the scary faces are gonna be the ones to beat. Should be an interesting few weeks. To be honest Im more excited about trying out my new Gopro, if the headstrap i ordered ever gets here. Keep your vids coming
  19. Some nice shots there' particularly the right and left. Its pretty obvious you are well accustomed to that Gun' some very fast and accurate shooting going on.
  20. I enjoyed that. I still havent ventured forth as yet as we are experiencing something like an Indian summer at present' but write ups as that are a sure way to stir the senses and give the urge to get out again.
  21. Cheers Big Al, The recipe is further up the page. On the flip side, Your "CHILLI " cam footage looks very Professional
  22. Never Shot a Pochard to date. I have seen them at rest on the water but never have bagged one at flight.
