Yeah they could have been just that' like i said I could be wrong. In my experience Grey's..Even Feral ones are a hell of a lot more wary than Canadas and for Somebody two shoot 6 geese in ten minutes in there first outing' just sat in the middle of decoys' uncovered' points more to the quarry being Canadas . I will happily hold my hands up if i am wrong.

Well' had my new Gopro charged up and ready to go' Was expecting the Head strap in the post this morning. When the post arrived' i did receive my extra battery and memory card' but alas No ******* headstrap. I had intended a day on the Crows/pigeons to try it out as there is some nice activity going on Behind the house. Of Course I could have went ahead and Shot' but wanted to leave the field alone to try and get some footage. So p'eed off at the Strap not arriving' I decided to knock up a Chilli for evening tea. I also had a nice sourdough loaf and some baby plum Tomatoes in' and some fresh basil on the Sill' so put together some topping for bruschetta. and stuck in the fridge to chill and marinate. I usually cook the chilli in a cast iron casserole ' if doing a big batch' but it was only for herself and I. We decided we were not in the mood for fries or Baked Spudz so I Just toasted half of the sourdough that was not used for the bruschetta and rubbed with some Garlic and olive oil and used this along with the chilli. It all went down well with My sister inlaw' that called eating some of the bruschetta and loving it.

Would that be sauce in Heinz or Branston beans then..? Only joking' I couldnt resist. But you are right' Bearnaise is a classic combination with Steak and it is the favourite sauce with Steak for food Writer Simon Hopkins . I have tried it' but would not be a fan of it myself.

You have a very likable tone and it adds to the footage. Is there anything online to show how you make your cradles..?

Was over home this Morning and My mother presented me with a Gift. My last remaining grandparent"My Gran" passed away at age 95 a few weeks back and my mother and Uncle and Aunts were sorting out stuff in the house over the weekend. She presented me with this Shaving sett that had belonged to my Grandfather and she believes it was Herself that gave it to him as a gift when she was still at home' over 40yrs ago. He was a keen fisherman and there is a photo of himself and I fishing at his brothers Fishery when I was about 7 or 8 yrs old. Anyway' i tried googling the item to see if there was any info on the sett' but I was unable to find out anything other than the company still produces Shaving brush's and are made from badgers and boar hairs. The makers name is Culmak and this sett was called "The sportsman collection" and Was made in Britain : Addis ltd..Hertford. There was supposed to be a bar of Soap on top of the jug' but my granfather must have used it or it fell out of the box at some stage. Now i aint bothered about its value as it will be a nice keep sake' but was wondering if anyone on here ever had a sett in there time..?

Like the majority of Wildfowlers' I would also be a fan of Peter Scott and his works. I would have been aware of most of what the article has said' but enjoyed reading it all the same. One thing that does stand out however' especially since it is a shooting related article' is the photo of his Self portrait. I have read somewhere or another that it is common for the likes of the WWT and rspb when using the photo ' to omit the Gun across his lap. Maybe it would have been better for the Article to Contain the full photo with Gun and cartridge belt visible..! I am in no way attempting to High jack your thread and hoping this may add rather than detract from it . I had some footage of a documentary that featured P.Scott on VHS and I copied it on to DVD and uploaded it. There is some talk of his Wildfowling days by his Wife and friend' I think in the first link. some may find it of interest.

Yeah' spot on. However the point I was trying to put across is that often lesser Decoys can be just as good. Wildfowling has always been considered a poor mans Sport' although this is often not the case nowadays..And people on a budget had to use their ingenuity to Compensate for what they could not afford and that is often still the case today. You good go way back to the time of the native American indians' when they used to form Snow into Goose shapes to try and entice Snowgeese into Range of their Bow and arrows or other Weapons. Even today the Gunner's across the pond will use plastic bags to fill out their patterns' when shooting inland. As Kent has said he paints some of his decoys black and they work well in bad light. Ive read of a time when fowlers would float dark beer bottles and like to use as a decoy spread and apparently it worked well enough. "Think of the many times you have seen Duck on the move and they looked liked flying Bottles' as you could not see their wings" or look at a bunch of fowl on the water that only looked like black forms. From homemade Silhouettes to oval shaped flat bits of ply and im sure many other types off imitations have lured Wildfowl into range throughout the years. Wildfowl and particularly Ducks can be curious creatures anyhow. Of course im straying off topic here and i probably am in the minority with my views' but for me the sport is becoming too perfected for want of a better word. Everyone wants the best gadget on the market' "I am guilty of this myself" should it be decoys, calls whatever the case may be...But when you actually think of all the new gadgets we buy' do we really need some of them..When something new comes on the market' suddenly or so it seems' what we where using before has all of a sudden become No good' despite the fact they where working well enough before the latest new one came on the market. Nothing wrong with my old wooden goose call' but somehow these new acrylic ones look to be better...then suddenly plastic shell decoys are no good once the flock coated ones came on the market.. Of course times change and products are forever improving ' some for the better' But somtimes i feel things are moving to fast and we are losing ourselves and also a lot of field/marsh craft is going with it. After all it is a Sport we love and the Challenges and all that goes with it..But sometimes i cant help feeling that the odds nowadays are more in favour of the Fowler than the actual Widfowl with all the new age gadgets. That is probably why after a lot of Wildfowling in its different guises i have chosen going back to To and enjoy far more the traditional form of flighting fowl at dawn and Dusk. Nothing for me beats Geese or duck high over head with a wind in their tails flighting to and from their feeding grounds. Of course these are only personal views and i have no objection to what anyone else does and doesnt do. And sometimes a Bunch of decoys is the only option to get something in the bag. Apoligies for going off topic and back to the Op's Question...A good load of teal decoys is a good option as already advised' however you could also have the option of lighting the load with a half dozen magnum/oversized decoys' using the old adage' less is more.

Cheers Alan, thank you for your input. I have now in my possession a Gopro Hero 3 White edition' Got a surprisingly good deal on it.It didnt not come with many extras so i now await a headstrap. I have been reading some of the booklet that came with it and it seems straight forward enough. My old laptop is hanging on by a thread so i will leave all the "techy" stuff to Missy who is pretty good on these things. Im not sure when i will get to use it as I have little free time these days' although i might try it out on the pigeons/crows first before i take it out Fowling'. most of my Shooting is Done in the bad light of the predawn and dusk' so dont know if it will be of any use in such bad light. Might get some footage of inland geese before our Short Window of a season comes to a close. Thanks again. SG

There is something about the Old Skool that always appeals to me' nice looking old gun and great photos.

He's well pleased looking and rightly So..Well done him. Have to say I'l be extremely jealous if he manages to bag himself that Leucistic ..lol Should be a great challenge for yourself to try and get him in the right place to have a go at it..Good luck with it and it would be great to see a photo of him with it before the seasons out.

Not trying to be Smart or anything' but i think its worth pointing out that sometimes decoys and the like are designed more to catch the Fowlers eye rather than the fowl themselves. I have never seen them before either or used them' i dont tend to use decoys often nowadays as i much prefer Flighting.. There have been many Fowl shot both ducks and geese' in the past over lesser looking Decoys than them in the photo. I have little doubt that the more realistic a decoy is' the better they should work' but on the other hand Im sure the Ducks would still come for a look-see with the likes of the ones in the photo. I do agree that possibly that them being rubber they wouldnt wear as well as other materials such as plastic or flock coated ones.

SuperGoose75 replied to HuskyRich's topic in Off Topic
Faith -George Michael . I have in my possession a very interesting bit of Vinyl..Going by a google search it seems its worth a few pound. I dont know what to do with it to be honest' might put it to the PW massive for ideas' but would need to wait until after the Watershed before posting about it..lol. -

What would you like to achieve this coming season ??
SuperGoose75 replied to fenboy's topic in Wildfowling
Would love to Shoot a Leucistic or Albino Goose..More of a lifetime goal than something to achieve this season. Also would love to get a right and left at woodcock later on in the season..Had a great chance last year and fluffed it. -
Yeah' I think most of us would shoot better at fast moving targets as you say more instinctive and natural' Move,Mount ,shoot is the way for most of us.! Going for a look at a gopro tomorrow around my Wife's price range' A gopro hero 3' . Have a good one yourself and look forward to more of your Vids Atb SG

Judging by your Wit and Humour on here' Im sure the speech will be a doddle for you. And remember you are not losing a daughter but Gaining a son and as you have recently become a member of the Wildfowling community a Son may come in handy years down the line as you can get him to help carry your gear out for you.

Some nice Shots there all the same Big Al. You where miles behind that bird at 320 but dont know how that crow didnt crumble at 350 as you looked bang on and the gun was swinging nicely. Need to loosen up a bit Sir as the ducks will be going a bit faster than them Corvids..lol. Out myself in the morning for a mixed day on Some stubble..expecting a decent bag..No gopro as yet so a photo will have to do. Looking forward to some of your Fowling footage later on. SG
