This is true of Islamic fundamentalists. Many fundamentalist Jews believe the opposite. Two completely opposing views neither of which can achieve it's ideal. The general populations of both sides want to live in peace. The general population pay the price of the fundamentalists zeal. Sooner or later the majority will prevail. How do you make that happen? I don't know someone like Blair? Pressure from outside. We need to win back Iran. Other seemingly intractable conflicts have been resolved.

A brilliant tactical military strike for sure. Just as they did in 1948, 1967 and ever since says it all. It is simply not the answer.

When you are out walking amongst stuff that can kill you with only a rifle over your shoulder it changes your perspective of the animals that you see. Great thing with gas you feel a bit chilly, turn it on and it's pretty much instant. That's where the heat pump solution falls apart.

What did the Bulger kids get?

Very scary. Good to hear you and yours are safe. Fortunately global warming is a myth otherwise this could have been serious.

Unfortunately a lot of this comes from machine generated numbers. You can block all you like and another random number is generated. Not sure what the answer is as getting a new number would be a right PITA and probably come with it's own nuisance calls.

It's simply a question of balance. How do you propose we pay for the increasingly retired population? Currently the pension benefits bill is £125bn up £6bn from last year. It's not going to come from overseas aid £9bn or asylum seeker costs £4bn. We need more productivity (working smarter harder and longer), more people and less pensioners. It would be great for all pensioners to live well in retirement but why should they at the expense of the working man? Why have a flat rate pension when it could be related to earnings? The more benefits the less productive the workforce. You have already voted for 100's of thousands of migrant workers and 100's of thousands of dependants as a result of Brexit. These are largely skilled workers. They make a huge economic impact.
-
Why. I think you answered your own question. Because they are on low incomes and they are left with no choice. We have a choice. Pay great high levels of benefits and it's a disincentive to work or save. Pay a bare minimum and it encourages productive hard work and saving for the future. You get out relative to what you put in. What we don't want is what @old man alludes to is saving hard and being robbed by govt (ala Gordon Brown). It's compounded of course by an increasingly aged population and a reducing working population. One can be solved with immigration the other with reduced healthcare.

Its a problem for both sides. We would have said the same about how to resolve NI troubles in the 70's and 80's.

I would want to see them eat one first. 🤪

We harvest mushrooms when we get chance but my inlaws take it to another level.

The neighbours want to live same as Israel. If they only want to fight then the conflict has no end. Extremist Israeli's like Extremist Palestinians want to see the other dead. Peace will only come from a future that has hope and the extremists marginalised by the majority together with a shared prosperity.

Iran, Rusia, China and N Korea all part of the problem. All trying to undermine the West. We need a strong policy for both and fragmented short term Democracy struggles to deliver it.

I don't think many 1.0l diesel cars would get this. Looking at averages on Fuelly for the Q7 I don't think any other owners are getting close either.

😁 I started with longs in Africa but felt out of place so shorts it is. Unless we are doing anything walked up or stalking in grass when I like the extra protection from trousers. For some reason I seem to be immune to ticks. Either too much garlic or bad blood 😁

This^^^. Hezbollah is also a mind set that recreates itself every time a civilian is killed. The stance of the Israel is self defeating. They need to find a peaceful solution and get out of land they don't own. It's a bit like the NI problem it's unsolvable until it's solved. Peace requires a future. Blair could sort it.

Clearly they are not. So how do you know this? Do you have anything to evidence the claim? Not quite sure I follow but.. if the pension is set a set at a very minimum payment it will encourage others to either work longer and or save for retirement. This very minimal level of payment could be the basis of all benefits.
-
Where was this? I missed this one. Do you have a link? A search on google does not list anything.
-
£ is doing well because the Govt is seen as fiscally responsible. I am not saying that the proposed payment level is correct. It seems to me that a far better way to deal with these things is consolidate it in pension and then tax appropriately. Unfortunately 'Tax' (changes) has become a thing to be avoided at all costs.
-
And where will the money come from? Why should tax payers fork out for increasing benefits? Many on here feel the UK is a soft touch on benefits. Increasing them is not going to improve the situation.
-
So you would propose to double the pension? What would you cut to pay for it? What tax rises do you think would be required? Minimum wage and pension is a false analogy. Pensioners will likely have paid for their accommodation. Its all about choice and fairness. There is no way that high earning pensioners should get this allowance.
