Great day out on the doorstep. Well done.
-
We need to build those prisons fast.
-
Wow where has this thread gone. Listen to it 😒.

It's a serious concern. Maybe even more so in the med where cruising boats have been chased by migrant boats.

Electric cars to pay road tax from April 2025
oowee replied to JohnfromUK's topic in Motoring Section
I hope people keep buying them. I need that grid to expand I just put a few quid into the £7bn rights issue to expand the grid. Another great project for getting the economy moving, particularly with relaxed planning laws. Electric is the future. It's the way to go and quite addictive. Only today I brought 400ah of gel battery on board the boat for my solar. I just need more surface area for panels 😁 I doubt it will ever break even for me but it will make off grid a lot easier. -
Its a tricky one as they have both lost and gained donations as a result of their work. It should not be that the govt rely on charity to do the work of Border Force. Apparently there have been some clashes with the life boat refusing to launch unless there are people in the water(1). The RNLI say anyone can drown and no one should regardless of where they are from. We make substantial donations and see the RNLI as our AA rescue. I dread the day we come across a migrant boat and we often see the collected debris. 1. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2024/mar/03/rnli-lifeboats-coastguard-border-force-channel-tragedy-migrants

About as effective as sending them to Rwanda.
-
It's a problem certainly. Full fact has a good analysis that puts it more in perspective. Why we do not require health insurance from all tourists i don't know. We would have to employ a load of border people but that's not a bad thing. We could pay for it all with a tourist tax on each visitor.

🤣 Of course they did. No, a few billion for migrants is small change when the cost of Brexit is running at 140 billion. These are the bills that are sapping the heart out of the UK. The cost of Brexit to the London economy alone (30bn) is nearly 4 times the cost of managing migrants for the whole of the UK. We need to focus on the big sums the big issues.

Credit where it's due to you that you know how to do it and have the tools. Is it made in China?
-
Surely it's not because he is Welsh?
-
We can't afford it. The last gov't did nothing lets hope Starmer can make a difference.
-
Its not true. I am sure it happens sometimes but on the whole they collect the fees due. There are reciprocal arrangements too for some countries. The biggest scammers (i bet) are expat brits. Living on the costa coffee and coming back to get treated.

It's great to watch and so refreshing the contrast could not be greater. Try and watch last nights interview it's a brilliant piece. John Giles GOP says it all. The bar for officials is low and Trump fails to meet it 🤣
-
Unfortunately there are too many looking for division trying to exploit the system that gives them the space to exploit.
-
Kamala is on a role. The momentum is building. 🤞 for some normality in US politics. Trump's interview last night at the black journalists convention has to be seen to be believed. JD Vance and cat ladies without children. John Giles GOP mayor endorsing Kamala says it all when he talks about the low bar for officials and Trump not meeting it. 95 days and counting.

That is a true sportsman. If you have a go at any pistol target shooting, the skill level required is insane.

Again I hear what you are saying. We will have to agree to disagree. It's not a loophole there are separate pieces of law. What is clear is that the Tories did not address the issue. Labour will address it ( i hope) and claim tax from thousands if not hundreds of thousands of very high earners currently exploiting the ordinary tax payer on PAYE.
-
Yes I agree but in this instance the Tory government has declined to tackle the problem. It will be tackled (i understand) in October.
-
So what about them? What point are you trying to make? We were talking about doctors pay, not nurses. I said. Given the training, the responsibility, the liability and the bodily fluids of the old the sick and the weak they deal with there are not many able to do the job. No disrespect it's a fact.
-
These are not loop holes. Divi's are normally separate from income and under legislation are treated separately.
-
What about them? The NHS can and does charge for services to visitors but there is a reciprocal funding arrangement of some sort with some countries. On tourists I would insist that any tourist has health insurance to be admitted. They do.
-
No its a fault of the Tory govt. Labour will close it down.

I get this all the time and they want to use Amex. Some even have their kids on the company pay roll, modelling for promo material, earning just enough to stay under the tax allowance. Making personal loans to their own business for cash flow, paid back with dividends. All legal of course. I can smile when they are complaining of the vat on the £20k a term school fees. 😁
