  1. +1 I like sitting there with a gun over 100 years old, but as far as personal comfort goes .. the modern stuff is the way to go .....
  2. I was shouting out loud in pain prior to my op .... was fowling 2 days after the op ....
  3. Pallet anti-slip sheets work well for me ....
  4. You should have nothing to improve on with Hevi ... perhaps go a touch more open. ITM can be fussy in bigger shot sizes .. but for the amount you're investing in shot, I would keep your money and use factory chokes. Aftermarket really come into their own with home loaded steel.
  5. I've often thought the same. My home loads would be more than capable on most of the game I shoot, but not really suited to a game gun, so an auto would be the way forwards. It would put an end to the odd high bird day I have a year though. "Let's hope it never happens" is worth repeating.
  6. There's nothing I've bought that I've not found useful some of the time. Put another way .. everything I have has been useful at some point, but not all the time.
  7. http://www.fourten.org.uk/steel4.pdf Pages 6 and 7 seem to echo the findings of Gamebore.
  8. The graph on the link shows steel doing 100m/s at 50m. Look at the other graphs for similar lead loads and you'll see they're stating about 150m/s at the same range.
  9. After many years of shooting SX3's, and having bust quite a few gas piston springs I've taken the plunge and sent one to SRM in the US to be sleeved. Upside will be no spring to break, and a cleaner internals. Downside is debatable but could be more recoil. Has anyone on here had it done?
  10. I've recently been using up some old game cartridges on woodies and corvids from 2.9mm to 2.7mm .... they certainly kill with authority. However, I will expect no drop off in performance when I go back to 29g 6's. I believe a lot of people get confused about birds not being hit hard, when they're not in the middle of the pattern. Generally speaking ..... centre a woodie at any sort of range with 5's to 7's and it will be dead.
  11. Nice one ... good to catch the bird of prey at around 35-43 seconds too !!
  12. After the call for "wanted" goose calls, I had a dig through what I don't use anymore .... these were spare .... The best time to buy them .. all summer to practice !! The Zink call has gone, but the remaining individual calls will be £15 each posted.
  13. Gents, These are unworn in the field and retail at £108. Featuring a heat protecting left hand to avoid those hot barrels, and a built in palm swell. £65 posted and they're yours. http://www.a-s-i.co.uk/PRODUCT%20PORTFOLIO/GRIPSWELL/GRIPSWELL_%20Frameset.htm
  14. Decision made ... It'll be re-done. I have worked on a few stocks before .. bit I'll leave this one to an expert. Welsh Warrior .. pm inbound.
  15. I'd like those please .....
  16. Gents, I'm torn on this one .. My 101 is in Original condition .. which I like. It get's used a few times a year to knock a few crows down, a bit of roosting, or if I need to double gun on the odd high bird day. It will be a keeper. Underneath the high gloss finish, is a very will hidden 'nice' piece of wood .. (the pic actually shows what's quite hard to see in reality, and the other side is better too). I'm sure in the right hands the stock could be made to look far better than it does now ... Recommendations?
  17. The engraving may also be more of a scroll ... If it's the Waterfowl model it should have it on the left of the barrel .. Here's the underneath of mine.
  18. There have been years where I've not shot clays, left the crows alone, not had a lot of pigeon shooting, or a lot of game shooting ..... but the one that I always look forwards to the start of, and keep my eyes peeled on the weather for 6 months of the year is fowling. Walked miles to knock some Drake pinnies over in a northerly snowstorm this week ...... magic!
