  1. Not far from me. As a start, have you looked into Colchester Wildfowlers? Not sure if they are recruiting new members but they have some pigeon shooting too, I used to be a member before I got my own permissions, it’s good to have a track record. Also, try signing up for beating next season at some of the shoots nearby, there are quite a few in our neck of the woods. The other thing I’ve found useful is to try to spend some time looking around farm land, spring drilling’s will be going in soon and if you can find the pigeons then the land owner will be more interested in a quick chat and maybe let you on for a day. My advise would be to start slow and build up and be mindful that farmers near us are sick of coursers so distrustful of strangers. https://www.colchesterwildfowlers.org.uk/
  2. The plastic cases are good, quieter than boxes
  3. Not too keen on reloading as I don’t have much spare time so wondering what the largest shot size is available in manufacturer cartridges. I’m looking for something that would be suitable for Geese on the foreshore next season. Ive exhausted my steel cartridges and keen to replace with non plastic wads.
  4. Welcome aboard, I look forward you you sharing your knowledge and experience with others, especially in respect of stalking which I’m just embarking on the learning curve of.
  5. Pork cheek is fantastic, however one of the best things I have eaten is cured pork jowl.. wonderful! Pittcue has some fantastic pork recipes, also the bbq cabbage is unbelievable!
  6. Thanks, missed sandringham as we were at Wells the week before for holiday and I didn’t fancy the hack up there so soon, will try this year
  7. Thanks guys, some good advice here. Didn’t get to it at weekend due to wind but it’s going to be a half term project for me and the boys (11,8). Neighbours won’t see or hear me using air rifle due to lay out of house but traps will be tough to hide.
  8. I love my affinity (converted to sec 1) but it’s an odd fit for me, even after playing with shims and buying an ex long stick pad, a red dot has resolved all issues and it’s niw unstoppable
  9. I enjoy the east Anglian fair the most, followed by the game fair
  10. I see, stand corrected!
  11. No what I mean I’d, if it’s sub 12 then you can reduce it, it sounds dodgy that he had it confiscated, must have been up to something
  12. Why, and what was he doing with it? No limit on barrel or stock length on sub 12 air rifle, sounds seriously dodge
  13. If the gun shop gives you the gun back having identified it’s over limit you’ll both be in the Pooh, deliberate possession of an unlicensed firearm (deliberate as you enhanced performance) could result in an accidental holiday

Thank you, a dish from childhood that I’d forgotten about. Will give it a go next week for the Saturdays roost shooting lunch. Also enjoy ox cheek, don’t see that too much anymore !
  16. SAK, better back to back on my 22 With 42gr subs than the atak that sits on my hmr
  17. Absolutely, bird preservation is the reason I’m concerned about numbers. Thanks I’ll plan a dawn assault for the weekend, if the wind backs off!
  18. That’s the thing, out at work most days, could be tricky... plus I don’t want to upset neighbours
  19. I’ve always been fairly relaxed about garden squirrels, especially as Mrs doesn’t want the affected, but now even swmbo admits they are too numerous. I have a 22 air rifle to do the job and and a suitable upstairs window but I don’t have all day to sit and wait for them.. Any tips to bait them in ?
  20. I think you’ll find that it’s a familiarity or gun and cartridge combination variance rather than anything else. I always use black gold and dark storm through my game sxs and the are fabulous, putting a few through my ou that I only usually use on clays whilst roost shooting on Saturday and they weren’t as effective. The variables are the bore 18.6 in ou vs 18.4 in sxs and a different gun but they are both fit to me.
  21. It’s a good scope but as above don’t worry about HMR specific reticle if I were you I’d buy the panorama on here
  22. Me too, there’s someone selling a Hawke Panoramic on here for 100 quid hardly used, could be a good shout. i have the HMR Hawke but I wouldn’t worry about reticle, it’s so flat it’s just a case of ‘up a bit’ of beyond 125 yrds
