I was the same as most of you. We burnt any and everything... Until we had a new Rayburn multi fuel installed with a SS liner. Basically the chimney filled up with tar. There was so much tar that it was running out of every joint. We could have redone the shed roof with the stuff.!! AND the Mrs had a few incidents where when she opened the burner door there was a violent flash over to the point that she nearly lost her eyebrows. The chimney flue caught light and I had to kill it with a nitrogen fire extinguisher. After this fun and games we decided that enough was enough and I got a set of glass fibre rods and swept a load of soot ect and we now get a ton of smokeless coal delivered direct by carrier from online. It's more efficient than messing about with wood and a Damn sight better than burning the house down. The house insurance doesn't pay out if you have contributed to a loss because you burnt random wood. Burning wood is a false economy. especially when the wood is nearly as expensive.

It's strange how we Brits completely absorb rules and regulations of all sorts. Whereas everyone ( Johnny foreigner generally) only pay lip service to all of this. AND we generally make these rules even more complex. Slowly shooting sports in this country are being demolished by the death by a thousand cuts. I shoot 22rf target and years ago if a few lads showed up we would let them have a few rounds at the target but all of that has gone. Any prospective club member has to serve a probationary period before they can even go on the range and touch a weapon. Therefore there are no incoming youngsters and that's before certificates ect, ect. Only the other day there was that countryfile thing on here where our supposed representitive never once challenged or disputed the random claims that were being thrown at him. How many young shots do you know.? Unless you own or have access to land it won't take long for shoots to disappear what with effect of covid, non issuing of new certificates and the general cost. Well said.

Yep, the picture can be viewed ok this time. Lovely dogs. I hope that good homes are found and they have a great life in the field.

Father used to put the legs is the hinge side of a gate. From what I remember the tendons pulled an amount of muscle out. 30 pounder !!! There was Turkey, Turkey, Turkey sandwiches, Cold Turkey, Turkey curry and the bin. this some of the reason that we don't have Turkey and we have about 3 smaller joints. Gamon, beef and lamb. This way people can have some of what they like or something of everything.

There is a minor problem with that. The postage is generally double what the item cost is....AND you might be clobbered import VAT along with an admin fee also. I know this because I got hooked on an import part and I think that on top of the item cost the import VAT on my part was £x and the royal mail admin fee to advise me of the vat was about £9.! (can't remember exactly) but if you dont pay you don't get the delivery. Rip off again.

I'd been to another dealer and was passing by. I showed them my ticket. They probably didn't know what it was. Anyway I wasn't fussed I was only passing by so it didn't inconvenience me. But others have said that they experienced similar so goodness only knows how much trade they lost. Similar to hantsrob on the previous page didn't spend money on a new gun. Can any business afford to turn customers away. If it were my business the staff would have had extensive retraining.

They still didn't last long at that place and I am aware that they went to Sturry ground and a few blokes have said to me that they were just as inept there. One time I was passing and dropped in to say hello, I asked if I could look at the layout and was bluntly told no. I even showed them my certs, Fair enough its their ground so I got back in the car and drove away. No difference to me. There are other places to shoot and buy stuff. I never went back and I've heard similar (Some like em, some dont) I am also aware that the shop was intending on moving to another place in Hersden (I think),, But I have also heard that this may have fallen through. It is bad when any fail as it is another source which isn't available. I wish them well for the future. Whatever that may be.

But this is pretty much how most of them are. most assistants don't know what where or when. years ago I remember going into Geenfields in Canterbury when it was in the town. (It's a pizza shop now). I asked for cartridges. The bloke rubbed his chin and said to another assistant, "do we sell cartridges, Bert.?".... Burt replied that he wasn't sure.!!! He said would I like to look at some Wellingtons.!!? I walked out. They didn't last long.

Thanks for all replies. I have seen or got most of the recipes out there. As everyone knows that it may not be what should be, but what can be produced safely with the stuff that is available. Brexit..... covid = not a lot in stock and unknown delivery dates. I was told that one powder was not being available maybe. .. before 2023 ..If then. I've got an amount of stocks and after a trawl on net site I read that reloaders on an American site were using a wide range of powders one of which was green dot. So considering I have some and it was one of the few powders available, I added some more to stock. Now I need to generate an 18 gram load. I don't see the need to ram bigger loads in a 28. If that is needed I'll issue a 20 or 12. Another thing being is that due to American magnumitus the 28 loads are more like what are 16 or 12 loads.

Well there we go. "Interesting that the "scientist" struggle to identify shot from seeds". It's organic shot.! "Liam Stokes BGA said he actually done 2hrs of footage/interview for the show covering a lot more but they used a mere 40 seconds" ..... This is a big part of the problem. we are not making tv programs. Anti activists are making programs and HELPFULL innocents are lambs to the slaughter. A person who was interested in wild boar was asked to do an interview and was VERY HELPFULL. BUT when the article was published every word that he had said had been completely turned upside down and 're phrased to mean something completely different. Total sell out. And what do our representatives do.? That field sports channel is an example of ineptitude. No wonder kwis runs rings around them. Remember the General licence chaos..!

Thanks everyone. All information gratefully received.

There is no one at all in Labour that is electable. You only have to look at starmer and the trivial things that he challenges Boris with. A very poor opposition. Grasping at straws That's why they loose so many elections. Liberals... unelectable lunes. Greens.. barmy. Monster raving loonies...... dark horses in the race 😊😊😊😊

About par for basic. Draw the membership money and have a big pay rise,,,, or invest in a new tweed suit and a new range rover..!!

Just watched it. What a load of biased drivel. Total kwis stuff. AND the bloke who was on there speaking in the shooters favor was cowering in submisive compliance. Not once did he challenge the random statements being thrown at him. He would have been better to F & Jeff at the bloke and all that guff would never have been made into a tv program to beat us with. Considering the fact that stuff has been shot with lead for hundreds of years and it hasn't caused the population to turn into a dribbling horde of zombies didn't come into the equation. All the time that drivel like this isn't actively and agresively challenged we are on a very slippery slope. Edit. Just looked at how many complaints country file gets. And the type of complaint from the lunatic masses was about the fact that the country file lines had taken a trip to the seaside.??? And guess what the country file lunes had been eating unwashed seaweed which MAY have been contaminated with raw sewage and toilet paper. Now there's a thing that one wouldn't consider when eating seaweed.!

Yes.. well done with the sale. Us shooters cave in to easily and ultimately we will see the end of shooting sports of all sorts and condem us all to a sort of big brother 1984 situation of being controlled and monitored 24..7..365.

As with everything to do with the police and firearms rules it's made up as they go along and maybe which way the wind is blowing. In some ways they say that you have to have an ammo safe but then they say that ammo/ powder should be stored in wooden containers because if there is a fire then you have created a bomb. Total shambles really because when you go out your front door with said ammo it might be in a waste belt of cartridge bag or other insecure carry bag.

I've got an amount of powder in stock and at present I am using psb2 which seems to work well. Today I managed to get a tub of Green dot and a thousand 209 to experiment with. I would like to generate an 18gram load which shoots consistently well. smoothly and decisively without being sharp on the recoil front. Any recipes gratefully received.

What powders are people using to reload 28 gauge cartridges? Which powders are currently stored and the most reasonably priced
-
Reading through those regulations there isn't really anything covering powder. Only ammunition is covered. Powder isn't ammunition and it's not an explosive. I suppose further investigation is required as to how powder is classified for transport purposes. I have been told that there is he'll of a wait to even get a delivery date on powder. I suppose that it would be a niche market to get a boat ( not a rowing boat) and go over to somewhere and bring a boatload back. Failing that, to start making the stuff over here again. Rules, rules, rules. Alternatively get out a pack of cards or a jigsaw puzzle. Nothing much on the box.

Oh how the years fly by.!! I vaguely remember hearing about Yellow wizard cartridges and coopal powder it never saw any... before my time. I do remember Frank Duke and got some of their cartridgesfrom an ironmonger when I was at school. My friend and I did buy and split 500 Baikals and 500 Winchester GB's. I couldn't shoot the Baikals in my 25. holly Moley, the flash and bang were akin to anti aircraft shells. My mate used them and I used the GB's. A goose on oxygen at 20 thousand feet was fair game for those Baikals. The guns didn't take that recoil for long.

.410 resizing & priming tools
Minky replied to Captain jack's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Father and grandfather used to reload back in the 40s and 50s with very basic kit because there wasn't much if anything available and they didn't have much money available. To deprime they used a block of wood with a hole drilled in it for the primer to go into which was knocked out by using a cut down bike spoke. To reprime they pushed a new primer in and drove it Home by using a bit of dowels rod inside the case down onto the wood block. They didn't resize because the cartridge had been used in that chamber or it fitted in anyway. Powder and shot were just measured by hand dipper. They made wads out of cardboard and thick fibre felt cut with a wad punch. All the parts were pushed in with the bit of dowel. The crimp was refolded and formed by using the dowel. The crimp was secured by a coat of varnish. All very basic but it worked well and they used to shoot a ton of stuff with these cartridges which they used to sell on. It was a case of ingenuity and needs must. A bit different to how it is now. -
That's all a bit vague. To me it just reads like ammunition transported along with a firearm, not load the car up with a dozen slabs of 12 bore cartridges.
