shot shot
I've just had my first car accident I had just started a driving lesson, going down the lisburn road (ni ones might know), and had just overtaken a bunch of cyclists before a long corner. This was at 1ish. After the corner, I see this green rover cross to my side of the road. My first thought was along the lines of "what the hell is he doing". He continues acoss the left side of the road, and it's at this point that me and my insturcter both realise the **** we're in. We both slam on the breaks (dual controls), and the other car bounces off of the curb. My instructer starts yelling to move, but by this point we had basically stopped, (well 10ish) but the other diver was still coming towards us at 40ish. The car gets closer very quickly, hits us square on, there's a white flash, a loud bang, and next thing I know, Im in the middle of the road facing the hedge. Me being me, I ask Norman (the insturctor) if he's ok, and then get out and sprint to the other car. He's in a total daze, totally out of it. I open the other cars door, and one of the cyclists comes flying up yelling not to touch him. He's a fireman, and thankfully does all the phone call stuff, cause by this time the adrenaline has cut in, and I'm shaking. Anyway, a phonecall home to say that I'm not too bad, finger might be broken, but that's it. Lots of passers by stopping to help. Fuel leaks and coolant coming from both cars. My instructer gets out as well, not too badly hurt, (I think) and we talk for a few minutes till the first ambulance gets here. Both cars are totalled. The paramedic comes over and asks if we're ok, I say my back feels funny, and I get strapped to a board and my neck braced. My dad has made it down by this point and rightfully very worried. The last I saw of the other car before I was taken to A+E, the driver was still in it. A policeman comes, asks for my license and does a breathiliser thingy. A sureal journey flat on my back later, and I'm wheeled into A+E, after 10mins or so I get taken to a bed, and get checked over, they reckon my back is ok, and so I'm untied, and sat up. From what I heard from behind the curtain, my instructer didn't fair too well, he didn't have an airbag, so his neck got wrenched. I get an x-ray done on my hand, and I'm told nothing is broken. I get the all clear (only in for an hour and a half) and I get up to leave. I see my instucter is still flat on his back with a neck brace. I get speaking to the Police officer who asked me the questions, and he says that they still havent heard about the other driver, but I saw him in A+E, and he didn't look too bad. He say's that when we'd left, my instructers car caught fire, somthing to do with and electrical fault in the engine, and they only just got it under control with extinguishers. So here I am, sore all over (right arm especially), with 2 fingers taped together. Got off very lightly in the grand scheme of things though
Peter De La Mare
Wow, very glad you are ok, along with everyone else. So, you have that first car crash out of the way, and the best thing is that you're ok and it wasn't your car !! It'll make a great chapter in your memoirs, and you can bore people to death with it in the future, it's a win win situation for you. Toombsy
Sorry to hear that mate - you were very lucky though  . Don't let it put you off. Get back out there on the road as quickly as you can. It's good you were in a car and not on a motorbike... I got hit by a Scierra years ago and ended up with four broken ribs, shattered pelvis and five vertebrae broken, plus numerous cuts.

shot shot
Krikey! Glad to hear you're ok, what a way to start your driving career. I'm, hoping it's a once in a lifetime sort of thing, that way it's best to get it over with early It won't keep me off of the road, not by a long shot
Boromir
First thing first is you and everyone is ok hopefully. By the sounds of it the other car was at fault as it sounds like he was speeding. Hope the rover driver has insurance because your driving instructor is going to lose a lot of money if he's out of work and probably a lot of future business. Have you got any pains in the neck by the way? And are you frightened to sit in a car again?

Zapp
Blimey! Glad you're ok. If it turns out the guy was at fault (ie he was unconscious due to alcohol/drugs/tiredness rather than a medical condition) then as shootmeup says, it's claiming time  . I nearly had a complete **** ram me head on a few months ago on the way to the farm. He finally noticed me, swerved back onto his side of the raod, at which point I saw why - he was texting. Unfortunately I couldnt get turned round quick enough to catch him. ZB

myzeneye
glad your ok pal. i was in a pretty bad head on crash on my bike which left me in a right mess. it put an end to my motorbike days and to quite a few other things i used to enjoy doing. the thing that will never leave you is the sheer violence of the impact.... the noise... the slo-mo realisation... the brutal force involved... now that youve been checked over and your ok, leave it in the hands of a GOOD solicitor...not a no win no fee dope..... now, get in a hot bath, chill out and sink several more beers then you can usually handle... when you've ****** in the face of death its something you should not take lightly. no matter how trivial your injuries etc... your a very lucky boy, it could have gone so easily the other way. oh and if your instructor is out of the teaching game for a while, i suggest you book a lesson with another instructor immediatly.
