RWS SUBSONIC BULLET

Recommended Posts

I tried some last week when we had no wind in a CZ Style 16". I found them very waxy compared to my usual Eley and ok up to 50 yds, then they opened out.

I also tried some Remmington and had one go supersonic.

As I've said before I'll stick to Eley, but we can't resist trying things can we ?

On the same day I tried the new AA field plus 18g in an AA Xtra FAC. Both the 16g and 18g give 33 ft/lbs with the 16g going a little faster. The 18g though did group better at 40 yds.

did a bit of ammo test the other day in my cz 16"varmint heavy barrel, eleys pretty much a ragged cloverleaf , the rws a tad larger same as the winchester, bloody waxy to say the least . id use them again not a problem, but im sticking to eleys for the longer range daytime use and the winnys for there nice expansion at night... i have no doubt the groups could be tighter if i did my bit a tad better as the trigger pull is still a little heavy for my liking, will post again when the new trigger kit is installed ....

If you think the bullets have to much wax on them and some of them do , just wipe the wax off with a piece of clean rag ,I do . There will be plenty of lube left to do the job.

sorry to highjack your post mate but i've a similar enquiry about some winchester subs and it seemed pointless starting my own thread, i've always used eley subs which have always been fine i've never had a problem but last time i topped up i got winchester super X's subs i think there called as he didn't have any eley, which as yet i haven't used, has anyone used them and are they as good as eley? i might finaly be getting some permission so if there **** ill get them swapped back for eleys

sorry again for the highjacking mate :)

sorry in advance for this but i doubt that you will find many users on this forum that would consider winchester subs to be anywhere near the quality of Eley or RWS subs-my advice is take them back and get the superior Eley.

cheers for that mate ill give a box ago and see how i get on then take the rest back i suppose its only fair to give them a try before making my own mind up.

thanks again lads :)

I got told to use winchesters in my .22 from it's previous owner. I got them at £65 for 1000 so I don't know if that's a great price or not but plenty dead rabbits so far can't be wrong

I was also recommended lapua but I was also told they were expensive?

Sorry to add a question to my answer but didn't think it merited a new topic :good:

When target shooting, I always wipe the wax off my Eley rounds. It does build up in the chamber and in the extractor claw recesses.

for sport (rabbits) I use the Winchester subsonics. they are not too waxy and seem to work best in my rifle.

Good stopping power, but maybe not too good for long range... (hole too big?), but very quiet with a PH silencer.

You'll have to re-zero probably.

what do you class as long range? i usually zero at 50m and tend not to shoot much further so im shooting within my means

i wouldn't use a ph silencer again i got one to replace a logun one i got raped over when i first got my .22lr (£65 ) it sounded like a bag of springs so i decided to to get a ph, went to zero it i couldn't hit the same side of the target twice they was going all over so i took it to bits to see if all the baffles were right (using the tool what came with it) same again so chucked the baffles in the bin and took a hammer to the tube (so no one else could find it and use it not a temper tantrum honest) went and got a sako for £30 and never looked back its fantastic. i probably should have took it to get a refund or exchange but if same had happened again i would have been real pi$$ed off.
