100milesaway
That was at the Grouse way back when Paul was running the show it been a lotof time since then. I think the issue at Charlesworth was clays falling on the shooters and trap problems it really was a long time ago. I might have to come over for some lessons if I ever get keen again. Good god the Hayfield shoot, up above the sportsman ,1/4 mile walk up steep hill, no vehicular access, I think if my memory serves me well, you nodded your head to call for the bird, known as a gentlemans rise in all the best circles. I've never witnessed it since. I would say i've shot at well over 80 grounds not counting abroad. from Auntie Edited November 11, 2009 by 100milesaway

Chard
So much for all this "Shoot plenty of grounds, it will do your scores the world of good" - I am still balls at this shooting lark!! Where's Wykeham? Anywhere near Wykeham Forest, Scarborough way? You might be a bit like me in some ways. I'll never forget that 91 of yours at Coniston, then you go and shoot like a turkey at Kingsley Moor and Catton Hall (no insult intended, but you shot the same rubbish as me at both grounds that weekend) When you got your 91 at Coniston, I managed a pitiful
paulos
Yes, Wykeham is over that way I will always remember that shoot as I shot an inter-league shoot there and managed to make the top 8 with 39/50 shooting one handed I shot really badly down at Kingsley and Catton. Going to new grounds doesn't normally bother me too much though, I shot an 84 at my first shoot at Doveridge, 89 at my first time at Kingsley and a 91 at my first time at Shugborough. Just a bad day at the office a couple of weeks ago - hopefully I can forget about that and do Ok at Rufforth this weekend!! I am confident that your scores will rocket once you get a few more registered shoots under your belt. Especially once you have a classification and are shooting for money Edited November 10, 2009 by paulos

Catamong
Cat - our only common ground - Cotton Dale - surrounded by fileds of yellow crops, if memory serves. Decent clubhouse. I went to shoot whilst on holiday at Scarborough. Gordon, My list only shows those "odd" grounds, most of which have closed now or don't run Registered shoots anymore. Cat. Peter De La Mare
Wow, those are some impressive lists !! I never knew that there were so many places to shoot, though I realise that some probably were probably only around before I was even born! I thought I was getting around a bit with 30, though that's only in 22 months. Also glad to read that I'm not the only one who chokes on occasion and shoots far below one's usual average. Cat, Gordon & Aunty, which grounds are your favourites and least favourites?
beretta
one of the least imaginative shoots i have been to was meon springs earlier this year. some of the best are hodnet, hereford, (no longer running) southdown, mid norfolk. not sure if that still runs open shoots. Cat, Gordon & Aunty, which grounds are your favourites and least favourites? Least favorites---southern counties-'cause of the sea mist.grouse, quarnford, good targets but safety issues.Wensleydale league shoots, brilliant locations, good targets but safety on some of them ,out of the window. Also, I don't like being beaten by targets into the sun, and birds i can't see. Grangefarm used to have 25% of it's targets thrown into the sun in winter, but that may have changed 'cause i didn't go again (7 years ago). Favorite grounds---All the classic shoots,Sandringham and Hereford both no longer with us.Highlodge, Grimesthorpe and best of all Hodnet. If i'm honest , I just love shooting clays, Scenic locations and the company do it for me...From Auntie

Yes, got to agree about Meon Springs, only went once and won't be going back there, simply a load of rubbish. My favourites are: 1. West Midlands SG, (AKA Hodnet), superb targets. 2. Newnham Park, (Plymouth), only shot it once, fabulous, (despite the rain) 3. Roundwood, Basingstoke, simply awesome high tower. My least favourites are: 1. Lakenheath, flat, featureless, unhelpful staff 2. Grange Farm, boring layouts, erratic targets, bleak depressing industrial setting, everything looks so tired and run down Cat. Catamong
Yes, a tragic loss to the sport, if I remember rightly the guy that ran it was a dentist, who lived in a large house literally overlooking the ground. Cat.
lister1
such a shame. theres still loads of clays in the field out the back of my house. it would have been great having a clay ground on my door step.

Gordon R
Favourite grounds:- Hodnet - none better. Mid Norfolk - big ground, interesting targets Rishton - I have known the owners for 30 years - decent shoot, good food, nice people. South West SS - 100 bird practice every morning when on holiday. North Devon SS - 100 bird practice every morning when on holiday. Billy Beldan's at Great Yarmouth - he was a local farmer with his own skeet range. Went on holiday, bought an auto and local Police told me of his shoot. Went along - asked if he sold shells. He didn't but gave me his own shells out of his car boot and refused to accept a penny. Top bloke. Least favourite:- Blakelow - shot there 20 odd years ago. I was on the stand looking straight at a young trapper - he was sending an incomer straight at me. My hands were a bit cold and I thought there was a risk to him. I declined to shoot and left. Some couldn't see what the danger was. Deerplay - an idiot pointed an auto at my head with the block down. I asked him to show that it was unloaded - a shell dropped out. We had more than a few words. I was less tolerant in those days. Manchester (Worsley) - should be so much better. Unimaginative clays and poor organisation. Farnley Tyas - awful organisation. Shooter in front of me went back to his car - 150 yards - to change his chokes, whilst his wife stood in the cage, guarding his place. Absolute idiots.
