Hi All

Just joined up. Looks like a good forum to learn more about pigeon shooting. We're not fortunate enough to have woodies here in NZ but we do have the bog standard feral pigeon.

It is currently the best time to target pigeons here with the harvest in full swing though it is a few weeks late this year. I have been shooting them over seed peas (unharvested) & oats direct drilled into triticale stubble in the last few weeks. I am keeping my eye on a few pea stubbles but as yet haven't found any big concentrations of birds. I won't shoot a paddock unless there is at least 200 birds working it.

Late last year I imported a pigeon magnet from the UK and have been quietly pleased with its' effectiveness. I use this in combination with a 'mojo dove' from the States + 30-odd dead pigeons as decoys.

Anyway enough about me - catch you on the forum sometime

Hi enzedder, Just found an importer for Eley cartridges,

Can't recall ever using Eley. Tend to use locally made Falcoln 1 ounce 7 s or 7 1/2s. Seems to work OK in the remington pump

Hello and welcome. What other type of shooting do you do out there?

Anything that moves:

Small game - rabbits, hares, Bennett's wallaby

Gamebirds - mallard, grey, shoveller, black swan, paradise duck, canada goose

Large game - wild pig, red deer, fallow deer, chamois, tahr

There are other species as well but the above are the ones I have targetted in recent years
