Evil Elvis
 I have a huge t8 on my .222 and while it supresses sound very well, I cannot strip it and claen it, and after my history of blowing up several HMR mods i dont want to do the same again. I have a dm80 now on my HMR which is fab, its trips down very easily, you only have to take it apart, leave it a few hours then brush off the residue, bloody brilliant, its also over barrell and very light. Do they make a CF dm80? Or is there a comparible product out there that strips down for cleaning?
SSS
The wildcat predator 8 moderator can be completely stripped and cleaned, and isn't a great deal more expensive than a T8. Alternatively, if weight and size is an issue, look at ASE CQD or ASE UTRA. They can't be stripped, but a very good quality sound mods. Also, with the ASE mentioned, they aren't over barrel so weight is further forward. Well worth looking at. I'm not too sure of any others that can be stripped, but the predator 8 are good value for money. All the best, Sam

SSS
Just noticed on the other thread, deker mentioned a wildcat P8 compact. May be worth googling it

Dekers
http://www.wildcatrifles.co.uk/full-specification.html Compact is Fully stripable and much shorter and lighter than full length version, exactly the same baffle set though! Great for anything up to and including .308, I have one on my .223, .243 and .308!! The tube top right is from the full version and shows how much longer (heavier it is).. Edited April 28, 2010 by Dekers
njc110381
My mod of choice at the moment is the Ase Northstar. It can't be stripped but the build quality of the Ase mods is very good and they are also very compact. And they're stainless too so no rust. I had an S5 on my Hornet and it went out in all weathers, got really soaked etc and never showed a sign of corrosion.
Dunkield
You don't need a wheelie bin on the end of your barrel to silence it. Get it chopped and stick an ASE on it, smallest and best, [iMO of course...]
bignoel
i have a T8 on my 243 and a PES scout on my 308 the PES realy cuts the barking out of my 308 and likewise the T8 on my 243 .so i tried the PES on my 243 christ it made no difference to the barking hardly at all was very surprised how quite the T8 makes the 243 when the T8 rots away i shall replace it with another  . garyb
Don't believe everything you read on here  My T8 get's put through some seriously hard times, in all manner of wet / sand / salty conditions - and it's never missed a beat. There's not a single rust spot on it either! I look after it, just the same I do with my rifle hardware - it gets a wipe down and a spray of lube after each use. IIRC the forrestry commision were quite happy to use them! If I were you baz - I'd save your cash until it's broken. The price of mods these days could see you half way to some decent euro optics - In my opinion..... a better buy

garyb
At the end of the day, it's a component - a component that will fail if not correctly looked after. You wouldn't get your gun soaking wet, stick it in the cabinet and expect it to give long service would you? I'm not saying the T8 is the best on the market... what I am saying is - they are not as bad as people seem to make out. I can't see why you'd want to chop and change a good working one because a couple of blokes on here can't keep their kit rust free  Edited April 28, 2010 by garyb
al4x
If you do change it I've got a DM80 on my .223 and it does what its meant to, not stripped it yet though. From memory size wise its not much different to a T8
Beardo
i wouldn't buy another one, but i'm not changing it until its knackered!

There's not a single rust spot on it either! That's the trouble though. You can have a tidy looking T8 one minute and the next it blows out from the inside? I've never had one but that's because I've heard of so many people having problems. As you say you have to take what's said on forums with a little caution but when you talk to a lot of people and the general trend looks negative their has to be a reason? Sometimes if you have a clean mod that's been hanging around for some time it pays to pass it on for a few quid to get someone a cheap start and put that money to use on a better one. It's better than losing it completely and getting nothing for it! My view of it is if it can't be stripped it needs to be stainless really. That way you're safe. All the best, Sam I agree Ive just fitted one to my 222 - not as heavy as they look either - can easily take a standing shot with the Pred 8 also you loose the tin can type sound associated with the T8's also DM 80 make a CF mod for around £240- my Wildcat Predator 8 was £225 from Sportsmans Nr Yeovil Les Edited April 29, 2010 by Lez325

Dunkield
If T8's cost about 70-80 quid they would be a good buy for the money. The world has moved on since they were introduced, there are far better options out there now. Nick has seen and heard my ASE, it's about a 3rd of the size of a T8 and does the same or better job. And for the record both of those blown mods were looked after meticulously by their owners.
Mungler
I have had two T8's and have a 3rd that came with a rifle. They are pants, end of. There are much better alternatives out there. For my money, PES.

Dunkield
TBH I can't remember 300 ish? I remember I got 3 prices that varied wildly - bearing in mind they were all trying to sell the same item that was sat up at Jackson Rifles, so I got a fair indication of which local gun shops not to deal with in the future. Lez325
Not a lot in it then - do you think they are better than the Wildcat Pred 8??? I fail to see - looking at the engineering involved why they cost so much?? Les Edited April 29, 2010 by Lez325
