HDAV
I tried some expensive boots £140+ and none fitted me really well (broad feet), found a pair of hi-tec boots at a high street chain £40 perfect fit really comfy go for the fit not the name.... Ian750
I have Meindl Borneo and love them to bits, however as Harv says, a decent pair of socks is a must, no matter how good the boots. Thorlo are brilliant in my opinion, not cheap though! Personally, if you're going to spend all day on your feet in far from ideal conditions, I think it's money well spent. Intrigued by these desert army boots EE is on about though, they sound like an absolute bargain! Edited August 22, 2010 by Ian750
955i
I always buy Asolo's. Usually around the £120 mark, but I wear them day in day out and they are hardwearing and comfy. Got six years of daily wear out of my last pair
Beardo
Meindl Burma pro MFS, they have a memory foam lining. Very comfortable indeed. But as mentioned good socks essential

scuta
Meindl - without a doubt, the most comfy boots I've ever owned (two pairs) bar none (big fat size 12 feet!)
Loki
Hiya You may also want to look up Altberg in Richmond, Yorkshire. They do bespoke boots, where you decide on the leather, lining, sole etc (and cater for the wider foot) - work out no more expensive that Meindl etc. Downside is it takes a few months and two fittings. I had a pair made 5-6 years ago for stalking/walking etc and still going. Alterberg also do a repair service for boots. Cheers

Cheers Their resoling service costs £39 I think but if you have then custom fitted I believe that resoling is free. the running man
walking boots is an absolute minefeild mate, the best around will invariably be the most expensive,no matter what people here say.the hi-tech magnums are pretty comffy, but the best ive ever had are the columbia river boots,£200 worth. no matter which pair you try on instore u wont ever be able to tell till you walk round in them proper. u can try sole inserts etc but they never last.good luck. darren m
thanks lads - a lot to think about there. i,ve tried various hiking style boots on lowa , salmon , and some decatholon makes but they all come a bit narrow on my size 11's re -- good socks what do you recommend
Beardo
i have very wide flat size 11's and as said i love my Meindl Burma Pro MFS - i did try the Borneo Pro MFS and they were more comfortable but lacked the Gore-tex layer which i wanted. Sock wise i wear a thin cotton sock next to my foot, then a thicker wool walking sock over the top if i'm doing any serious walking. A short stalk or shoot on the farm, i tend to just wear everyday medium thickness socks.
John_R
i have very wide flat size 11's and as said i love my Meindl Burma Pro MFS - That's not the first time I have heard the Meindl boots suit a wide foot. I did read somewhere that is quite common of the German brands, but I do not speak from experience. I suspect from my own point of view that'll rule them out. For me narrow soles are better, and it seems the Italian brands are better for that.
Beno
Get a set of black islanders had mine a year now and very comfy know a few keepers who have them and love them. http://www.blackislander.co.uk/index.asp
Ian750
re -- good socks what do you recommend For me personally, I wear Thorlo or Bridgedale, both are excellent, but if I were pushed for a favourite I would have to go with Thorlo, the extra reinforcement around the toe and heel area is superb, and they last forever!
