Transporting a semi-auto

If transporting a semi-auto (Winchesters SX3) which part should I take to make sure it is not usable if I leave it in the car for a few minutes. On a break action gun it would be the fore-end etc.

With my beretta semi auto if i had to leave it in the car for alittle while i used to pop the pin out that holds the trigger unit and take the trigger with me.

On my browning I just take the nut off the front of the forend, using it without should result in a nasty accident for the person that stole it. Though usually I don't worry and only leave it unattended while I fill up with fuel etc though usually there is a large GWP on the back seat

I also remove the cocking handle

Or feed a cable through the barrel out of the ejection port and lock (ideally to something strong like lashing point) if you have a 4x4 or estate the "boot" isn't as secure as a saloon. So a cable prevents a smash and grab which in my opinion covers reasonable precautions.

If its only a few mins just take it with you .Cart get safer than that ?

 

Or leave it in boot out of sight and lock it of course . i hate leaveing gun in car evan at chippy evan tho i can see car and only 6 ft away parked on path

I leave mine on the bonnet of the truck, saves a few quid as it stops them putting my window through.

 

 

 

just pull the cocking handle and front nut.

Cocking handle is easy and quick, but it would not be too hard to take the bolt itself ?

On the same note does anyone leave their gun in a car all day whilst at the office for example?

 

I quite often work at different sites round the country and if I can I'll pop into a clay ground on the way home. I'm a bit wary of leaving the gun in the car but can't really roll into the office with a set of O/U barrells sticking out of my laptop bag either.

 

I use a cable lock and trigger lock but still get a bit paranoid that's it's not going to be there when I get back to the car.
