Best all round game cartridge

I buy between 4 and 6 driven 150 bird days a season, given the cost it is a waste to use poor cartridges.I use Eley VIP #6 30 gramme fibre that are quite good, does anybody suggest a better option to fold up a few more birds!! ??

Express supreme game, I like these a lot. I use these on all my driven days.

Try some of the same cartridges in no.5 shot. I find them better than 6's, especially later in the season.

if you are pricking birds, go to a bigger shotsize (and keep the range sensible.)

 

i`m not a big fan of eley. but they are good enough for most driven game.

I used Just Cartridges own supergame 32gram fibres at the weekend and they worked very well. A rebadged gamebore cartridge but hit very hard

Give RC Sipe's a go, I think they are one of the best cartridges out there currently.

 

Have used Black Golds and they are ok but do give quite a bit of recoil.

 

For a lighter load Express World Cup in 6.5's are quick and good killers.

It's perculiar it seems opinion is split right down the middle on this. I, like you, find them very smooth - with noticeably less recoil than RC Sipes but others are convinced it's otherwise. Maybe the gun design has something to do with it. As has already been mentioned Just Cartridges Extreme Game and also Express Supreme Game are worth mentioning for being very smooth but hard hitting. Also worth a mention IMHO are SAGA Exports which are at least equal (if not better) than RC SIPES for alot less money.

Maybe they've changed them since I last tried them but when I used a fair few of them on Pigeons I found them to have a lot more recoil than the Sipe's, thought the Sipe's killed better too.

I think it has a lot to do with if you are confident with youself, gun and cartridge. If you are then i think the you will hit what you would with any other cartridge of the same load, size.

Another for Express Supreme Game I've just changed to them from Eley VIP 30g 6 Fibre to the same in the Express seem to work really well and softer on the shoulder.

 

Only tho as I can't get the VIPs as easily now I've moved.

I recommend you pattern test your gun with a selection of cartridges at different ranges. It can be a real eye opener. I found relatively cheap cartridges like Hull Pigeon and Eley HB Pigeon pattern really well through my Teague chokes yet shoot poorer patterns through my standard short Beretta chokes.

Average pheasants can be killed with cheaper cartridges provided they shoot well in your gun.

 

I pick up and shoot on some proper high bird shoots and Black Gold, Supreme Game and RC Sipe seem to be the most popular.

Must be after some high birds I've never found anything other than 6s for most stuff occasionally 5s for roosting pigeon or high stuff!
