Flew over the Pennines this morning in true white van man style to the police shoot at Worsley :lol:

Really enjoyed the shoot and it proved to be very tricky with some different and deceptive targets shown  Managed to scrape 2nd place overall with a hard fought 87 with the shoot being won on a 89 :good:

Bumped into Craig lurking around the pool stand  and i'm not sure who the new lad buttoning and marking the pool shoot was :P:hmm: but he did a helluva job, calm and composed at all times no matter how fast i made him press those buttons and fill the score card in ;):lol::lol::good:

well done G. :good:

:lol::lol: Cheers B :good:

Apparantly they were trying out some new target presentations for the selection shoot that's being held there soon. I thought it was tough enough in parts today and the average score was 57 with only six scores over 80 with probably 250 entries.Maybe a bit hard for a police shoot but near enough right for a selection :good:

good to see these grounds setting up fresh targets for the selections, NOT!

f f s why set it up now so the locals can shoot it to death. same happened a couple of years back when they last had a selection.

Hi Stu,

I think i should maybe have explained things a bit better.

They have opened up more parts of the woodland and made some real improvements to the ground which enables them to throw/try different target presentations.

I can't see it being the same shoot on the day of the selection to be honest.I think they'd be stupid if they did that.

I know where you're coming from regarding the shoot you're talking about, and believe me i was as annoyed as you when i heard people had bought practice cards and gone around the shoot on the saturday as the ground held open practice alongside the selection shoot only to enter the competition proper on the sunday.

I don't know if these shooters were punished or not,but it's hard to prove who did what.

Hopefully the ground have learnt from this, but **** sticks,as they say.

I'm not local to Worsley,it's over 100 miles each way,but good luck to the ground if they are prepared to put the effort in,and get things right.

aye, to say last time was a right royal f k up was an understatement.

i do hope they put fresh targets on for the selection, there was nothing worse than hearing from some local that they have been practicing those targets for a month!

I shot Worsley on Sunday morning, along with timps and whiskymac and I was also there for the refs comp on Wednesday and the targets were changed, and I will expect most of them will be changed again next this Wednesday, they are actively making a point of regularly changing the targets, as the members what it that way.

I'm sure a couple of stands will stay the same, but the vast majority of them will be changed very soon, and I'm sure Nick will make the selection shoot as completely different or as virgin as possible.

They have been putting on some really good targets recently well on par with a good registered shoot.

I know that several shooters went out of their way to give David some constructive critiscm today about the targets and the layout in general. By all accounts it was considerably tougher than last years shoot and there were more than a few dissapointed with their scores :hmm:

Well I shot most of this shoot today and I'm sorry to disagree with Azzurri but with the exception of the catering I thought the whole shebang was a total bag of ****. They had 12 stands and I think we shot it later than Azzurri and we had breakdowns of one sort or another on probably half of them :oops: basic stuff like batteries requiring changing, running out of clays and not having any boxes by the trap! no comms between the marker and the ground staff so said marker sets off back to cabin to report lack of clays, eventually ground staff turns up on quad and takes what seemed an eternity to refill trap.

To compound our misery on this stand (rabbit & L to R looper) the marker wasn't calling out names and when it was our band of threes turn to shoot he'd given my mates card to the previous group :angry: We chased then to about 5 stands away and it turned out he'd marked one of that groups score onto my mates card, back to the stand and another 10 mins wasted trying to sort that out. All could have been avoided if he'd shouted out names. He also gave a kill to my other mate on a rabbit that rolled un-broken on into the distance which Mr Magoo would have spotted :no:

This was after a half hour wait on stand three after a breakdown, groundsman took a battery to the trap, twice before announcing it was terminal and we would be better moving on ;)

Final straw was stand 9, we had kept passing it as it was broken down until it was the only stand left to shoot, after about 20 mins it was working again, 2 shooters later it was broken again, another 15 mins back in business for about 3 shooters then broken down. That was it, all the shooters waiting, about a dozen, just walked away, we saw the ground owner on the way back to the cabin but our request for a £3 re-fund (5 pairs at 30p a target) fell on deaf ears.

Got to confess I've never been a great fan of Worsley's targets, to paraphrase Chard "not enough sky". Most targets had to be shot on the drop, very little in the open definitely too many trees.

I hated every minute of it, I won't be shooting the England selection shoot there and the ground is virtually on my doorstep. I won't say I'll never go there again but I won't rush back other than for the sportrap which I'll give a go.

Score? I don't know, bear in mind we only shot 90 targets but there were already enough zeros on my card to form the Japanese air force :lol: The thing was I didn't really care either, I did see Azzurri's 87 on the board as I got a brew and a pie and thought to myself that is an awesome score on those targets and I mean awesome :good::good:

Good luck to anyone who travels to shoot the England selection shoot, if the fiasco that was today is repeated it will turn into a bigger **** up than the last one.
