Last walk round of the season??

Couldnt have asked for a better day for probably the last days game and fowl for us and actually was down to the T-shirt in the afternoon.Mac on the camera and as usual Rab doing all the real work.Very still but plenty of birds and ended up with 6 pheasants.Must mention one that if i hadnt seen it happen i wouldnt have believed it,and luckily the wee man witnessed it.Rab flushed a cock, and i saluted him with both pipes which i think clean missed with both.We were watching the cock dissapear and heard a crash through the trees behind where i had missed, and i saw another cock drop from high in the trees stone dead.Mac turned and said id shot a branch off the tree and when i told him what had happened he didnt believe it until Rab came back with the bird.It must have been sitting in a tree and was one unlucky pheasant.

Next we went to the wee pond which has been frozen for nearly 3 months with an odd few days here and there that it has been ice free.I fed it about 2 weeks ago but didnt think there would be many working it but when we got there plenty of feathers littered the margins so got the hopes up.45 minutes later, nearly dark and absolutely frozen we stood up to go when a single came from behind and dropped in less than 10 yards from us.I had to rise him and dropped him in the water about 25 yards out and sent Rab out.He had just grabbed it when another pair came in low right and were going in when they flared at Rab.Luckily i dropped both so the dog was kept busy.By this time i was struggling with the light but another 3 pairs came near enough for a shot and i managed another double,a single and a shocking double miss.Another very satifying bag and cant complain if i cant get out on Monday or Tuesday as it was a perfect day.

Good pics and write up as usual. The landscape has changed quite a bit from some of your articles a few weeks ago

Cheers for all the comments folks.

A big change Ollie and hopefully it will stay this way although we usually get snow Feb and March.Great to feel a bit of Spring in the air and the birds behaviour after a few days of it has changed already.

Brilliant! great pics :good: cracking dog shots too. I was out with my mate yesterday with his dogs, all bases covered with a Cocker, Vizlas and a Gordon Setter pup (she is a cracker!) Next season the Gordon Setter will be spot on the way she is comeing on. Keep up with the pics and write ups in the future, a pleasure to read and look at.
