WHAT AN EVENTFUL DAY

SNAKEBITE
 Share

Recommended Posts

Was having a lovely day today until about five past one this afternoon. Driving up the dual carriage way someone undertook me as I was coming from the outside lane into the nearside lane. I clipped his near side corner, sent him over both lanes, down an embankment and across two lanes of traffic and into a layby. I followed down the embankment. Nobody was badly hurt. My little girl was treated at the scene for a bumped head.

However to complcate matters upon making sure my family were o.k. I steamed across the other side of the carrigeway jumped on the blokes bonnet and kicked the windscreen in. Not big or clever and got me a trip "down town" plus an £80 fine for criminl damage. It was just a moment of madness and a way of venting my frustration at his attempt at trying to wipe my family out.

For the record he had been tailgating me for a few miles then dropped back. As I was entering a 60mph zone I slowed down and indicated to pull in, didn't see him as he was in the blind spot. Intead of slowing down to let me in and then overtaking he tried to put his foot down and get past on the inside.

To add insult to injury the car was written off!!

Hi snakey motors can be replaced mate, the main thing is the family are all unhurt and no serious injury.

But i know how you feel i would have done exactly the same if some stupid ******* had put my family in danger. :< :< :< :<

I should keep your head down on this one Snakebite, the last thing you want is an assault charge against you.

Just glad to hear that your family are all OK. Just the thought of losing someone as precious as a daughter or granddaughter sends shivers down my spine.

As Hawkeye says, cars can be replaced……………

don,t want to be the bearer of bad news ,but i reckon you want to be in touch in with BASC or a good solicitor if you want to keep your ticket,i sympathise with you so much because i really hate "rsole racing drivers" and i am allways facing a constant battle with myself not to lose the plot when the red mist comes up.

really hopes it works out

i think you will find you were in the wrong as you were crossing the path of the vehicle behind blind spot or not i think you may have or were in the wrong i know as this happened to me a few years ago if you are crossing the path of another car 9 times out of ten you are at fault :P

I'm glad you're all ok, but have to confess you've been a bit OTT and it sounds like a classic case of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other :P

However, why have you already paid a fine of 80 quid. If you've been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, (FPN), you have a certain length of time to reply/pay and also a system wherebye you can appeal.

Also, if they've fined you by this method, it should only be recorded on their crime record system and not by way of a court.

Theoretically, you shouldn't get a CRO , and this should help with any firearms related issues.

How on earth do you work out that it is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other?:/?

If the idiot was undertaking then he got what he deserved, OK the kicking the screen in may have been a bit extreme.

I got stopped on the M2 several years ago for undertaking, I was in the middle lane and the guy in the outside lane slowed down to avoid something laying in the road and I shot past him, unlucky for me that there was a police car right behind. I got pulled over and I got a £30 fine.

It is certainly not something I make a habit of doing, Now I have got a Discovery I rarely leave the inside lane :P:/

Cheers

".......... you've been a bit OTT and it sounds like a classic case of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other"

what planet do you live on? was that reply meant to offend or incense?

just be thankful it wasnt YOUR family that idiot tried to wipe out with his pathetic excuse for driving (in)ability. i think SB did well to boot in the windscreen and not the drivers face.

Thanks for the "well wishing". Everyone is still fine this morning except for the wife who is stiffening up. The littl'un couldn't wait to tell everyone at school and show them the pink pig the ambulance team gave her.

As for the windscreen incident well, as I have said before it was not big and not clever. However I do not react well to the attempted murder of my family. If the bloke was in a rush then he should have remembered that the real world is not like the racing games on his playstation. When It's game over it really is game over.

Isn’t Pedro a police officer?:/?:)

And as such wouldn’t he be trying to remain impartial?:P?

As I said earlier Snakebite, keep your head down on this one and try not to make any more fuss than you need too. There is always the chance that the “Criminal damage” charge may be overlooked in the circumstances. Had you kicked his face in, then you would be saying goodbye to your SGC as well as your shotguns.

Fear can cause you to do some daft things, so I won’t condemn you for what you did. Just make sure that now you are thinking straight that you don’t do anything else to jeopardise your shooting.

Kids are very resilient and your little girl will soon get over her little bit of excitement.

Let us know how the insurance claim goes though……wife’s whiplash, :/ your own time off due to the fact that you have to stay at home to look after the family etc……. :P:D

cHEERS gEMINI.

There are no charges against me, not even a caution. Obviously there is a record of it but apart from my DNA being taken and another form being filled in which covered my "aliases" and "any tattoos" (which was a bit time consuming :P ) it was just a formality. I was as civil as possible to the officers and in return they were as civil as possible to me. As one officer said he could see my side of the arguement NOT CONDONING It but could see it. They had a job to do, I could go along with it and make my life easier or I could be arsey and make it worse. I chose the easy option.

JUST SPOKEN TO THE OFFICER WHO DEALT WITH THE ACCIDENT AND SAID THAT THE OTHER DRIVER WOULD NOT BE CHARGED WITH ANY OFFENCE AS THEY WOULD HAVE A JOB PROVING ANYTHING. (I have a written off escort in my drive which could prove otherwise but there you go! :/ )

Perhaps the "accident" wouldn't have happened if you'd fitted a blind spot mirror - I've fitted them to both front mirrors - you can buy them in Halfords and they're worth every penny, you'd then have seen him coming and been able to stay in your lane and let him go through on the inside - saves all the risk of injuring yourself and family.

Or he could have not been a muppet, or I could have set out 5 minutes earlier, or I could have ..................

The Greeks have a saying "If my granny had wheels she would be a bus". In the end life is nastey and will throw nastey things at you. It's how you deal with them that makes the difference. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

But like I your idea about the mirrors, I'll get a set.

If I were you Snakebite, I would contact the officer again and see if this could affect your possible grant application for Firearms and Shotguns. Dependant on the outcome, I would then contact BASC and see what they have to say.

To be honest Mal that is the last thing on my mind. I wasn't in a rush to do anything anyway! If it means I don't get one then that's life! It really doesn't bother me. It was going to be a year or so before I looked into anything anyway. I'll just enjoy the 12lber until then, plenty more to learn before I diversify anyway!

Snakebite, I didn't mean any offence and was merely looking at the situation from what's normally termed the "average persons" point of view.

I don't think this will effect any future applications, but as someone has said already, I would keep my head down if I were you. Only contact the police if necessary and with a bit of luck it'll all blow over. In my experience, none of these different departments speak to each other anyway.

Give my good wishes to your wife and I hope everything sorts itself out.

Snakebite,

I think that if you recall exactly what happened, you will remember that he was trying to leave the scene of a accident without giving you all the relevent details, you were merely trying to hold onto him until the police arrived.

It worked for me.
